i love tree news
they should invent water for men
Good news OP
While this is a funny joke, as far as I'm aware this company is actually pretty cool, and the purpose behind the Liquid Death (sparkling or still) water is quite wholesome.
Part of the reason for it being a tallboy is that aluminum cans are more recyclable than water bottles, potentially infinitely so, while water bottles either have a limited amount of recyclability potential or aren't actually recyclable at all.
The other reason is to literally make it more fun and appealing to drink something other than alcohol at concert venues. Part of getting over addiction or even getting away from a culture that is doing you harm is, in the US at least, heavily associated with becoming "no fun". The idea here is to make water as fun in terms of packaging as alcohol, so people who are going sober, who can't drink, or who are the Designated Driver don't have to feel like they're relegated to the "no fun zone" forever and still get to order something with a silly name. We had these at my brother's wedding as an alcohol alternative and tbh it was really neat.
From the Liquid Death website:
"Most products in the health and wellness space are all marketed with “aspirational” fitness models and airbrushed celebrities. And many of us are tired of it. Why should unhealthy products be the only brands with “permission” to be loud, fun, and weird? And let's be honest, almost all marketing and branding is just theater. So we’re going to treat our theater like a movie theater and have more fun with it."
So yeah! If you want a neat alternative to buying bottled water, this isn't a bad alternative. Also, if you feel like you miss the feeling of opening a can of beer and drinking one, especially with carbonation, this could help curb the urge without having to substitute soda.
Oh. So it was a stand against single use plastic, alcoholism culture, and eating disorders disguised as fitness.
saying this, she casually threw aside a large rock
My parents and I have wondered this for a long time.
Who writes those "about the author" descriptions for books?
I want to say it's the author but it's in third person?
Sometimes other people, sometimes the author writing in the third person. Then there's the "Odd and the Frost Giants" About the Author bit theory...
I'm afraid I don't know that theory.
From the About the Author page of ODD AND THE FROST GIANTS:
A CROW TRIED TO GO IN OUR CLASSROOM AND HE HAD A PEN
yes hello i am here to learn geometries
That crow is more prepared than some of my students.
You’ve all just like, completely skipped over the possibility that this crow has seen people using pens in this room, found one, and is trying to return it. There’s been videos of crows picking up sweet wrappers and stuff and placing them in bins after seeing humans put their litter in bins. I really do believe that this crow is trying to return the pen and that is ADORABLE AS HELL.
THEY ARE SO SMART I LOVE THEM
Crows are thought to be self aware by some scientists. Its perfectly possible the crow wants to return the pen to humans. Knowing it belongs to humans.
Corvids. Who KNOWS. :)
Another cool crow deal: Once, when trying to assess if crows could reason and use tools, scientists had two crows who didn’t know each other each take a wire from a table (one was hooked, one was straight) and try to grab meat from a bottle with it. The crows could see each other, though they had separate bottles. Only the straight wire worked for this, so they hypothesized that if crows could reason, the second trial would have the two crows fighting over the straight wire. The second trial started and, to the surprise of the scientists, the two crows both went for the bent wire, one held it down and the other unbent it. They both got meat out of their bottles. They came to a peaceful solution without verbal communication. Crows are probably smarter than we are.
they still shit all over the place and eat garbage
ok but so do we
@neurodivergent-crow
Cool facts about crows:
1. Crows understand the concept of gifts.
There’s a little girl who started feeding the murder by her house and they started bringing her trinkets (cool pebbles, coins, shiny things, bleached animal bones, etc) as a thank you.
2. Crows remember who has been kind to them and tell other crows about the nice humans.
There are various examples of people who have helped crows and the crows not only come back to say hi, but also bring friends who need help over for the nice human to help.
3. Crows are the only other animal known to make tools in order to make another tool.
4. Crows have been proven to have a sense of self
If you mark them with a coloured dot that they can see and then show them their reflection in a mirror they soon realize that the reflection is them and not another crow.
5. Crows have regional dialects and accents.
They are also able to copy each other’s dialects and accents to fit in if they move to an area where the accent is different.
6. Crows regularly visit their parents after leaving the nest.
They also regularly live with their parents after reaching adulthood to help with raising their younger siblings for up to five years before moving out.
I love crows so much

[ID: a TikTok by @lazyjakeandjenny. Jake E. is a light-skinned man with short styled brown hair and Jenny L. is a light-skinned woman with chest-length light brown hair. The video has a “rizzle” logo in the corner. The two are on a news studio background. The camera shows only one of them at a time - whichever person is currently speaking - and each of them has a namecard displayed for themself when they talk. The namecard is labeled with a logo for “News ANT” (Apartment News Tonight), the person’s name, and a description of the person that changes with each cut. Description will be written [in brackets] before the person’s dialogue.
Jake [Jenny’s roommate/boyfriend]: “Welcome back to ANT bringing you the latest from the apartment of Jenny and Jake, I’m Jake.” Jenny [Jake’s roommate/girlfriend]: “And I’m Jenny. Coming up later: fish as a pet - cute or gross? The answer may not surprise you if you agree fish are gross.” [A box above Jenny shows a goldfish in a bowl with the words “Slimy. Wet. Pet?”] Jake [just thought it’d be a cute thing to care for together]: “Though low-maintenance and majestic, but more on that later. Our top story tonight, a new development in the ongoing fight over the shower’s infamous bottle district. For more, we go to Jenny on the scene.” [graphic above reads “battle over bottles.”]
[Jenny opens a shower curtain to show her standing in front of a windowsill lined with shampoo bottles.]
Jenny [sr. bottle correspondent]: “Thanks Jake. I’m here at the southeast shower where the historic bottles have just been granted protected landmark status.” Jake [concerned decision has environmental impact]: “Now Jenny, what does this mean for those residents trying to clean up the area for other use?” Jenny [big fan of bottle district]: “Means they can suck it Jake! This status prevents the removal of any bottle at any time.” Jake [encumbered daily by “historic” bottles (trash)]: “Well Jenny, some would ask, ‘why not remove empty bottles?’” Jenny [not even trying to hide zeal for bottle district]: “That’s like asking ‘why not remove Stonehenge’ or ‘why not remove the pyramids?’” Jake [trying to hide frustration about the bottle district]: “Well it’s a little different ‘cause those aren’t just empty bottles.” Jenny [can’t believe how dumb Jake sounds right now]: “Jake you don’t realize how stupid you sound right now.” (split-second cut to Jake looking annoyed) “Clearly all of these bottles contain a small amount of shampoo residue.” (split-second cut to Jake looking annoyed) “When mixed with fresh shower water, you get bonus shampoo.” Jake [still not understanding or won’t accept the core concept]: “But why do we need bonus shampoo?” Jenny [shocked that Jake still doesn’t understand]: “In case we run out of regular shampoo.” Jake [legitimately hates this]: “But there’s new. Bottles.” Jenny [loving this]: “Jake, you either get it or you don’t.” Jake [genuinely distressed]: “I don-”

Someone I know not well enough to voice my opinion on the subject said something like why didn’t God make potatoes a low-calorie food so I am here to say: God made them like that because their nutrition density IS what makes them healthy. By God I mean Andean agricultural technicians. Potato is healthy BECAUSE potato holds calories and vitamins. Do not malign potato
For all evolutionary history, life has struggled against calorie deficit… So much energy goes into finding food that there is no time for anything else. Our ancestors selectively bred root vegetables to create the potato, so that we might be the first species whose daily existence doesn’t consist of trying to find the nutrients necessary for survival. One potato can rival the calorie count of many hours of foraging… Eat a potato, and you free up so much time to create and build and connect with your fellow man. Without potato where would you be?? Do not stand on the shoulders of giants and think thyself tall!!
I nearly teared up reading “Andean agricultural technicians” bc fuck yes! these were members of Pre-Inca cultures who lived 7 to 10 thousand years ago, and they were scientists! food scientists and researchers and farmers whose names and language we can never know, who lived an inconceivably long time ago (pre-dating ancient civilizations in Egypt, China, India, Greece, and even some parts of Mesopotamia) and we are separated by millennia of time and history, but still for thousands of years the fruits vegetables of their labor and research have continued to nourish countless human lives, how is that not the most earthly form of a true miracle??? anyway yes potatoes are beautiful, salute their creators.
There are approximately 4000 varieties of potato in Peru. I’ve seen an incredible variety of corn and tomatoes, and root vegetables I’ve never seen before, on the local farmer markets. Yet some expats insist on buying only imported, expensive American brands of canned veggies… 🤷🏼♀️ Peruvian potatoes 👇🏼
It is long since time for us to start viewing plant domestication as the bioscience that it is. Because while the Andeans were creating potatoes, the ancient Mesoamericans were turning teosinte into corn:
And then there’s bananas, from Papua New Guinea:
These were not small, random changes, this was real concerted effort over years to turn inedible things into highly edible ones. And I’m convinced the main reason we’re reluctant to call them scientific achievements is, well, a racist one.
From Wikipedia: Familiar stranger
“ A familiar stranger is an individual who is recognized by another from regularly sharing a common physical space such as a street or bus stop, but with whom one does not interact. First identified by Stanley Milgram in the 1972 paper The Familiar Stranger: An Aspect of Urban Anonymity ”
if anyone needs me i'll be frothing at the mouth thinking about the origin of language and interspecies communication. happy wednesday.
how did we learn this? who taught us this? is it coincidental? is it observational? is it that something in the source of these sixteen languages stems from the same animal instinct that causes each of these species to call out to their own kind? I Am Going To Lose It.

“art is a luxury” is such a disgustingly capitalist concept. the need to make and engage with art, to have beauty and creation, is absolutely fundamental to humans. art should be a human right.
