MARAL ARTINIAN
WEARING: Marli NYC Jewelry.
“While everything seems so organic and natural how Marli as a brand came to be, it is still incredible to think that it wasn’t too long ago that working at my father’s boutique was considered “unusual” for a young woman – and here I am, as founder & creative director of my own jewelry collection in New York!”

Describe the type of woman who wears your jewelry. Who are they? Where do they shop? What are they wearing? Interests? etc.
The Marli woman is first and foremost a confident woman. No matter what her profession, no matter what her style, and no matter what her age – the Marli woman is independent and confident in her choices. Whether she wears a single piece of Marli or several layered together to a boardroom meeting, a romantic dinner, happy hour with girlfriends, a cocktail party, or simply grocery shopping – she is confident in her style, and in the versatility of the jewelry.
As a designer where do you draw your inspiration from? Any surprising or unique places?
I draw inspiration from every experience that I have – whether that be a memory, a sentiment, or even a sensory experience. I love travel, architecture, fashion…so much of my designs are born out of these personal passions. A beautiful architectural skyline of an incredible city like New York, the stunning fashion runways, the pristine beaches of the Mediterranean…these often inspire the geometric shapes, the clean lines, the minimalist silhouettes that you find in my creations.
What was the turning where your jewelry design transitioned from a passion project to a full time business?
For me, Marli as a “business” has always been a natural course driven out of passion. I was born into a family of jewelers, so the jewelry industry is something that I’ve always been engaged in since childhood, and beautiful jewels something that I’ve always loved and have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by. For me, it was only natural to love and know jewelry, an organic step to take my years of experience working with jewels alongside my father and brothers and then to breathe life into my own minimalist design aesthetic.
What is the most gratifying aspect of being a female entrepreneur?
To be quite honest, it’s still startling to hear someone call me an entrepreneur. For me, launching Marli wasn’t a “start-up” project, but more of a continuation of a passion and expertise area that I’ve known all my life. In this aspect, I can confidently say that while Marli is still a very new brand, there is a level of credibility that comes with my deep background in the jewelry industry as well as with the brand’s artisanal craftsmen who my family and I have worked with for more than 20 years. While everything seems so organic and natural how Marli as a brand came to be, it is still incredible to think that it wasn’t too long ago that working at my father’s boutique in Armenia was considered “unusual” for a young woman – and here I am, as founder & creative director of my own jewelry collection in New York!
How do you adapt to the constant change of the fashion and jewelry industry? How do you hope to transcend your brand into the future?
One of Marli’s defining characteristics is its timelessness – we are not concerned with trends, as the brand is identified by its ageless, classic, versatility in design. We are, however, constantly looking to redefine and modernize our level of craftsmanship, and reinterpret what versatility means with changing seasons, to remain relevant and always accessible to our audience.
