ironically, when i was a kid my mama used to say this to me. and when she said it, its her way of saying “do you know anything else? Something you should know?” or she’d use it to change the conversation 😭😭
This conversation about Jey and his personal life is tired and regurgitated every time a new or possibly old picture comes out with them.
There is nothing new or has changed about that situation and ATP I wish y'all would just stop talking about it. Especially since we don't know if he's still truly married (also, if you don't know the state and county they filed in you're not gonna find divorce records, and they can request it to be sealed. You can be married in one state and file for divorce in another. Quick google search tells you that. (Also tried to find my parents and got nothing.) in this case we'll never know and it's honestly not really our business.
Whether her face was blocked or not, she was standing next to him or somewhere else, didn't go, or was invited by Natty herself, y'all was still gonna have something to say. We get it. You don't like her. Get Over lt.
i had to take a little hiatus (i was still on here from time to time reading and everything.) i was getting overwhelmed. everything i love, now fills me with nothing but dislike. and being in my last semester of my senior year of college, this app wasn’t worth it anymore
i used to love writing (before my inbox was filled with stupid ai allegations (i’ve been writing wayyyy before ai…i’m also a journalism major.) and being called a bird brain for writing for jey uso and also for if i didnt.
this app takes parasocial-ness to another level, where everyone has to be mean and nasty to the other. it’s weird. and it’s sad. as much as i love it still so much (it’s my job lol.)
i give up. it’s not something i find joy in anymore…id delete this account but life is strange. i could always turn around. but i loved how many of you all loved my stories. it made me so happy to feel so loved and have a community somewhere. so i will leave them all here for you to enjoy. but who knows what’s in the future!!

tired of the hustle and bustle of her job, of her friends, of everything. she needed a much needed mental and physical break.
and what better place to do it then her parents house? they always welcomed her with open arms. it also gave her the excuse to finally see the helped they hired.
she was more than confused to know they had a live-in helper, even more finding out he was a former felon that they had contracted from a company who helps former felons assimilate in normal life.
she was skeptical but her parents were their own people and did what they wanted to. what could she say?
she would see the text message from her parents letting her know that they were out at the moment, but jimmy would be able to let her in.
she would send a quick thumbs up emoji before parking her car in the garage and walking her and her bags to the front door.
she would laugh as the stupid door bell tone her dad accidentally changed ring out. glad to see he still hasnt been able to change it.
she would tap her fingers as she heard footsteps coming from downstairs, her eyes slightly widening as the door opened.
a very sexy samoan man with no shirt on would open her parents door, his long damn hair flowing. he would sheepishly smile, propping the door open. “sorry, i went to take a shower and didnt see your parents texting me until after i was out.”
“you’re good, i wasnt in a rush anyways.” layla would say softly, eyeing the man up and down. the man would look down at himself and chuckle before side stepping and taking the bags from her hands. “i could’ve done that.”
“nah i got it, and im not just saying it because it’s my job.” he would smile, his tongue slightly pushing out between his teeth.
layla would nod , walking into the house. things were changed, including the furniture and the pictures on the wall. this wasnt the same house she left six years ago.
“if it makes you feel better, the only thing they didnt change is the pepto bismol abomination you call a room.” she would gasp, her hand to her heart as she looked at him with feigned hurt.
“my dad must be influencing you, because my room is cute!” she would roll her eyes as she walked downstairs to her room, smiling at the sight.
it was just as she left it.
jimmy would put her bags on the ottoman at the foot of her bed, shaking his head. “i remember my first task your parents made me do was clean your room. i dont know what you usually do to it that made your father side eye me, but i was done in like two minutes.”
she would laugh, shaking her head as she took off her jacket. “he’s just an ass, don’t mind him. i used to be a bit messy, but ive changed.”
jimmy would chuckle and nod before heading to the door, running his fingers through his hair. “well, hopefully it doesnt get messy before you leave.”
she would nod, moving to take her close out of bags. he would start to leave, causing her to let out a breath she didnt know she had.
lord, he was too fine for her to even pay attention to whatever he said.
“oh and layla?” layla would look up to see the man, now wearing a shirt but a towel on his head. “next time, dont leave your lace panties on the bed.”
she would scream, throwing a book at him. “oh my god!”
he would let out a loud laugh, rushing downstairs to the basement.
god this was going to be an eventful two weeks.
within a week it was like jimmy and layla were best friends. always helping him out, mostly to get to know his story and how he ended from jail to her parents place.
to make a long story short he was young and he took the wrap for someone else. spent twelve years in jail for something he didn’t even do.
her cousin that was in jail used to be jimmy’s cellmate, and introduced him to the program her parents volunteered for, and the rest was history.
he had another job that could easily get him out of her parents basement, but he chose to stay. her parents were like family, and he refused to turn his back on them.
hearing him just talk made layla turned on, but she refused to act on any of her urges. this man worked for her parents after all, it would be disrespectful to them.
she could control herself.
right?
layla would be in jimmy’s basement bedroom, laying on his bed as he was looking up food places on his phone next to her.
it was date night for her parents. usually they would leave jimmy alone and he would just go to one of his brothers house. but with layla there he was more than happy to have company that wasnt his brothers and their lovely family.
“whatchu feel like mama?” he would ask, his face buried in the phone. layla doesn’t remember when he started with the pet names, but it felt so natural coming out of his mouth.
she wasnt sure if it was the southern twang in his words or because he was finer than some aged wine.
“not sure, you got a list of options?” she would ask, turning to look in his phone. the man would have the notes app up, turning it so she could fully see it.
the list consisted of chinese, korean, sushi, and wingstop. she would think about it before tapping her acrylic nails at korean food, turning to smile at him.
he would laugh before switching to the doordash window of korean food he had already ordered. “youre so predictable.”
she would slap his shoulder and playfully roll her eyes before getting under the covers and turning over. “mean ass.”
jimmy would look at the eta of over an hour before clicking the lights in the room off, turning the volume on his tv a bit up. “i’m sorry mama, it’s just you’ve been getting the same thing for three days straight, i could see your answer from a mile away.”
layla would only huff, refusing to look or even turn her body to the male. jimmy would take a deep breath before getting under the covers himself, his hands moving to her stomach. her breath would hitch, but she still wouldnt move, refusing to falter.
jimmy would feel the goosebumps on her, chuckling before running his hands down her thighs. he would then grip them gently, his head dipping down to her ear. “you not gon’ accept my apology?”
“is that what that was? sounded like a whole lotta excuses to me.” she would shakily let out, a million and one thoughts running through her head.
was she really letting this man touch on her like this? and was she enjoying this? she barely knew the man, only bits and pieces her parents told and the week shes been close to him. was she actually going to go through this?
“if that wasn’t enough, get on yo back and i’ll give you a real long apology.”
yeah she’s definitely doing this shit.
she would turn to look at him, a slight smirk on her face. the man was shirtless, his hair down and sweatpants on. his hands were now holding the waistband of said sweatpants, softly smiling.
“you gon get on your back or i gotta beg for that? dont act like this tension radiating through us is platonic.” the man would start to breath heavy, like he was thinking and his thoughts getting him off.
she would think for a bit, still sure if she wanted to do this in her parents home. thank god they weren’t home, that would be a whole thing entirely.
fuck it.
she would peel the covers off her slightly before pushing her shorts and underwear down. she would push them under a pillow as she got on her back, looking at him.
jimmy looked like he was seconds from snapping, his hands and body moving towards her. he would let out a soft smile before crashing his lips on hers, slithering his tongue in her mouth.
she would moan in the males mouth, wrapping her arms as she brought him closer to her. his mouth was permanently etched into a smirk now, his hands trailing all over her body.
“goddamn you thick.” he would say, his words muffled as they refused to break the kiss. layla’s hands would gravitate to his hair, running her fingers through it as he sucked on bottom lip until it was raw.
she would eventually break the kiss after a couple of minutes, needing air. she was panting, didn’t know the concept of time anymore, and was feening for more.
once catching her breath, the woman would take her shirt and her bra off, her tits spilling out. jimmy’s eyes would gravitate towards them, his eyes locked.
“ion got condoms, you good on that?” jimmy would say, pulling down his sweatpants and underwear down. layla would nod, knowing she took her pill yesterday and today. “stretch real quick, ion want you catching a charley horse.”
layla would laugh before getting out the bed and quickly stretching, feeling his hand kneading her thighs and asscheeks. “the hell you ‘bout to do to me?”
“don’t worry, though you will be sore tomorrow.” she would get back in the bed, the man immediately pulling her legs to the foot of the bed. she would grip his biceps, letting out a soft grunt.
“open your mouth ‘fa me.” jimmy would softly say, bending down. the woman was confused but reluctantly agreed, the man spitting in her mouth in return. his eyes glazed over as she swallowed the spit, biting down on her bottom lip. “good girl.”
he would barely let her get a breath out before attaching his lips back on hers, his length nudging her clit as he bent over. he was huge, layla wasnt sure if this shit was gonna fit in her or not.
jimmy would rock himself back and forth, rubbing his precum all over her soaking wet folds and clit.
“jimmyy.” the woman would whine in between the kiss, digging her nails deeper in his biceps.
“uh uh, you knew what you were getting into when you took them panties off, you gon’ shut up and take whatever i give you.” he would say, chuckling before lining himself up and slamming himself inside of the woman.
layla would immediately whimper, throwing her head back as she tried to get used to his size. she would think jimmy would at least give her a bit to get used to it.
nope!
after a couple of seconds he would push her legs down, keeping her at a angle while he lifted his right leg up. he would start to thrust, gritting his teeth.
layla’s hands stayed on the mans biceps, high-pitched cries flowing out of her mouth. “dammit jimmy, oh fuck!”
“you wet as hell, take this dick just like that mama.” he would bend down to start kissing on her neck, one hand moving from her thighs to her clit. “you doin’ so good baby.”
layla couldn’t speak, her moans overpowering anything she could’ve said. her mouth was in a almost permanent o shape, her eyes rolled back. she had never been fucked with so much roughness, so much passion.
do all men who been in jail lay dick down like this?
“tell me how good this shit is baby, i wanna hear you.” jimmy would look into the woman’s eyes, not breaking eye contact as he slid himself in and out of her wet cunt. the sounds could rival most amateur porn, of her parents were home they would hear out as if they were doing it in the room they were in.
“why are you fuckin’ me like this?” the woman would question breathlessly, already close to losing her voice.
“why? i don’t know how to fuck any other way. tight ass pussy.” he would almost growl, tucking his bottom lip inbetween his mouth for concentration.
layla would throw her head back, her eyes fluttering. the man would immediately grab her by her hair, pushing her head down.
“look at you taking this dick baby, look at how good you creamin’ all over daddys dick.” the sight in front of her was obscene, watching the mans length slide in and out of her like a well oiled machine, white cream oozing all over his and her crotch. the sight would make her almost cum, her eyes glazed over as she looked the man up.
“don’t stop daddy, gimme that fuckin’ dick.” sure would grit out of her teeth, pulling the man closer. she had scratched the man’s arms up, it looking like he went toe to toe with a aggressive cat. “this dick so big baby.”
“yeah? how big is it baby?” jimmy would say back, still keeping eye contact. he would spit in layla’s mouth one more time, letting out a groan. “im not stopping until you cum baby.”
“so fuckin biggg- jesus you’re splitting me in half!” she would scream out, her body shaking.
jimmy would laugh at the sight, a wide smile on his face. “yeah you’re close, gimme that shit baby.” he would pick up the pace, burying his face in the crook of her neck as he did so.
jimmy’s hands would move from the woman’s thighs to hold onto the edge of the bed, giving him leverage to drill into the woman. layla would wrap her legs around his neck, curse words spewing once feeling the difference.
“shit fuck this pussy daddy! gimme that nut!” the sound of the tv would thankfully drown out her cries, her orgasm quickly approaching. she would hold onto him tight, planting him.
jimmys thrusts would get sloppy, indicating he was close. but what he said was true, he wasnt stopping, nor cumming, until she was done.
layla would bite into the sheets as her orgasm starting applying pressure. though this pressure was giving her a burn in her stomach. as she let go and cummed, she would scream the mans name as she gushed all over him, cream oozing all over his length as he praised her for taking him so good.
almost immediately he would cum, her orgasm triggering his. he would let out a grunt, still holding onto her hair tightly. “fuck lay, take this nut.”
her body would go almost limp as she came down from her high, watching the man pull out and clean her and him up. “you did so good mama.”
the man’s phone would ding, a small smile on his face as he pulled his sweatpants back on. “food’s here. be right back.”
layla would nod, slowly shuffling herself under the covers. she would get her clothes back on, minus her pants as she waited for the man.
after a couple of minutes the man would come back with their food heated up, and some ice cream. he would give the woman her food before pulling her into his embrace, peppering his cheek with kisses. “thank you.”
“for having sex with you?” layla would ask, the man immediately shaking his head.
“for letting me in. i hope you know i dont go away easy.” he would say, the last part accompanied with rolling his eyes. “big jim a loverboy, not a hitter and quitter.”
“if you say so big jim. though i will say this, we are definitely going to have to go again after our food is digested.” jimmy would laugh, immediately nodding.
“oh most definitely, but your parents might be back before then. i know how to keep quiet though. you? you were screaming like that lady from american horror story.”
“i know you not talking, your thrusts alone rocked the bed and the walls.”

This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. They weren’t supposed to be anything more than friends with extra benefits. No feeling we’re supposed to be involved, but somewhere along the way, she had fallen for him, hard.
Every time his name popped up on her phone, her heart did that stupid fluttering thing she couldn’t control. She’d smile, sometimes without meaning to, even before she read the message.
She had told herself it was just physical. Just fun. Just something to pass the time and keep the loneliness at bay. She told herself that again and again.
But it wasn’t just that. Not anymore.
She knew it the night he fell asleep next to her, his arm draped lazily across her waist, breathing slow and even, completely at peace. And instead of slipping out of bed like she used to, she stayed. She stared at the ceiling, feeling content and at peace in his arms.
But she had seen a shift in him as well. Soft, subtle changes that nobody in their friend group picked up on. Like how he stopped checking his phone when they were together, or how he started to send her memes throughout the day, telling her how it reminded him of her. And when she spoke, he listened, really listened, as if her words mattered. Like she mattered.
He even stopped mentioning other women.
That’s when she knew something had shifted. Maybe she wasn’t the only one falling. Maybe it all wasn’t in her head.
And then suddenly, he did a 180 on her. The good morning messages stopped. The late-night calls turned into unread messages. He still answered, sometimes, but with short replies, polite and distant.
Even the sex was different now. He wouldn’t look her in her eyes; he would keep his head tucked into her neck until they were done. Afterward, he’d roll away with a mumbled, “You good?” like they weren’t friends before starting this whole arrangement.
She’d nod. Not having the courage to actually speak because she knew her voice would crack. So she stayed silent, just listening to him get dressed.
“I’ll see you,” Josh said as he walked out of her room. Aniyah nodded again but kept her eyes focused on her ceiling.
She waited until she heard the sound of her front door closing to finally let out the shaky breath she had been holding. A few tears slipped down her cheeks as she sat up and pulled the covers tighter against her body.
She didn’t know how long she sat there, just breathing, feeling everything she didn’t want to feel.
She knew at that moment she had to put herself first. Whatever feeling she had for Josh died that night.
At least that’s what she told herself.
Which is why when they ran into each other at a mutual friend's birthday party a couple months later, her heart didn’t do that stupid flutter it always did when she saw him. Lie.
When their eyes made contact from across the room, the butterflies in her tummy stayed stagnant. Another Lie
And when a woman she had never met before walked over to him, handed him a beer, and placed a kiss on his lips, her heart didn’t shatter into tiny pieces.
It cracked.
She couldn’t look away, no matter how hard she tried. Her eyes were stuck to the couple as Josh accepted the drink. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close so she was tucked into his side, like she belonged there.
Aniyah let out a shaky breath and turned away from them. She walked into the kitchen, poured herself a shot, and downed it, holding her head to her chest as the liquid burned as it flowed down her throat.
She closed her eyes and tried to push her feelings away. Tonight wasn’t about her or Josh. It was about her best friend and his birthday. Schooling her features, she walked back into the room and scanned it for the birthday boy. Her heart dropped to her stomach as she saw he was now talking to Josh and his new friend.
“Luis!” She called out once she got close. He immediately turned away from Josh and his friend. “Happy Birthday!” She said, letting out a giggle as Luis pulled her into her hug and lifted her off the ground.
Josh excused himself from the group and walked away, pulling his date with him.
“Here,” she said as she handed him a gift bag and a birthday card. “Happy Birthday.” She tried to ignore the ache in her chest.
Luis’s face lit up immediately. “I said no presents this year,” he said with a laugh, already tearing into the bag. “You always go too hard.”
Aniyah smiled, small but genuine, grateful for the distraction. For a moment, it almost worked.
“Oh shit,” Luis called out with a laugh as he unwrapped his present. “You didn’t!” He called out.
Only the best for my friends,” she said, smirking lightly,
“No shit,” Luis laughed. still holding the signed Aaron Judge baseball. “How’d you get this?!”
Aniyah shrugged. “You know, friends in high places.”
Luis scoffed with a laugh and pulled her into a hug. “Honestly, this is the best gift of the night!” He called out, holding the baseball up.
Aniyah rolled her eyes and let out a laugh as his girlfriend, Valerie, called out, “Hey!”
Luis grinned unapologetically, holding the baseball up again. “What? I’m just telling the truth.”
Valerie shook her head, laughing as she walked over and slipped an arm around him. “Whatever. I see how it is.”
Aniyah smiled, stepping back slightly to give them their moment. While she loved her friends deeply, she just couldn’t bear to be around a loving couple.
She turned around and immediately bumped into someone.
“Fuck. I’m sorry.” Aniyah said as she tumbled back slightly, instinctively reaching out to steady herself.
A warm hand caught her wrist.
“You good?” a familiar voice asked.
She immediately snatched her wrist away. She knew it was only a matter of time before the two of them came face to face tonight. “I’m fine,” she said quickly, not looking up. Her voice was steadier than she felt. She busied herself smoothing out imaginary wrinkles in her dress, anything to avoid his eyes.
Josh didn’t move away.
“Aniyah,” he said softly. Too softly. Like he still had the right to say her name that way.
She finally looked up, and for a split second, she wished she hadn’t. His expression wasn’t distant or cold like she’d expected. If anything, he looked… uncomfortable. Guilty, maybe. His jaw was tight, his brows pulled together slightly, like he was bracing himself.
“No, we’re not doing this.” She said as she tried to walk around him, only for him to side step her. “Excuse me.” She muttered.
“Niy, please, just…” Josh trailed off with a sharp inhale. “Can we talk, please?”
That nickname hit her square in the chest.
Her jaw tightened, and she clenched her fists at her sides, nails biting into her palms. She hated that after everything, after the silence and the distance and the way he had made her feel disposable, he could still unravel her.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she said quietly, finally meeting his eyes again. “You’re here with someone.”
Josh shook his head immediately. “She’s—” He stopped himself, jaw tightening. “This isn’t about her. It’s about us.”
“There is no us,” Aniyah replied, sharper than she intended. She softened her tone, but not her stance. “You made sure of that.”
Josh fliched, but stayed quiet, making Aniyah scoff. She rolled her eyes at him as she moved past him, making her way back to the kitchen.
“I fucked up!” He called out, gaining the attention of half the party, including his date.
Aniyah stopped mid-step.
For a moment, she didn’t turn around. She closed her eyes instead, inhaling slowly, grounding herself as heat crept up her neck. Of course, he would do this, make it public, make it messy, make it harder than it needed to be.
“I handled everything wrong,” he continued, louder now, raw. “I shouldn’t have shut you out. I shouldn’t have walked away like you didn’t matter.”
Josh’s date looked between the two of them, realization suddenly dawning on her face. Looking just as embarrassed as Aniyah felt, his date snatched her purse off the couch next to her and stormed out of the apartment.
Josh looked torn. He wanted to go after Lauren and explain, but another part of him wanted to stay with Aniyah, make her understand how sorry he truly was.
Josh was tired of hiding how he truly felt; he was tired of feeling like a coward. “Niyah,” he said, his voice lower now, as he stepped towards her. “I don’t expect you to forgive me. I don’t even expect you to hear me out. But I need you to know the truth.”
Luis cleared his throat as he stepped towards the… couple? He wasn’t too sure what the hell was going on. He knew when Aniyah was ready, she would tell him the full story, but for now, he was in protective mode.
“Maybe y’all should go out on the balcony to talk… too many people in here up in y’all’s business.”
Josh glanced around, noticing the curious eyes of a few lingering partygoers, and nodded. “Yeah,” He said as he cleared his throat. “C’mon,” He muttered at Aniyah and held his hand out, hoping she would take it. “Please,” He whispered when she just stared at him.
Aniyah hesitated for a moment, her heart hammering in her chest. The thought of being alone with him terrified her. But she wanted to hear him say what she already knew. So, she slowly placed her hand in his.
Josh’s thumb brushed gently over hers, a small smile now on his face. “Thank you.” He muttered before leading her towards the balcony. They stepped out onto the balcony together. Aniyah shivered as the cool night air hit her bare skin.
Josh let go of her hand just enough to take a step back and meet her gaze fully. His jaw was tight, his shoulders tense, but his eyes were honest…vulnerable. “I fucked up,” He repeated. “And I spent every day regretting that shit.”
“Why are you telling me now?” She asked, “Why wait all these months? I mean, you got my number, you know where I live, and…” She trailed off with a shaky breath. “Why did you bring a date tonight?”
“I didn’t think I had the right,” he admitted quietly. “I just disappeared on you, Niy. I thought if I showed up unexpectedly, you’d shut the door in my face.” Aniyah scoffed out a laugh and shook her head. “And I.. I don’t know why I asked Lauren to come, I -”
“You said you would tell me the truth. Don’t lie.” She said, cutting him off.
Josh ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. “I didn’t want to come alone,” he admitted, his voice low. “I thought… maybe if I had someone there, it’d make it easier to hide how much I actually missed you.”
Aniyah rolled her eyes and looked away from him, out into the city, trying to steady her racing heart. The lights blurred together, a kaleidoscope of color that somehow mirrored the chaos she felt inside.
“Aniyah…” He gently called out, grabbing both of her hands, making her turn her attention back to him. “Our… situation started because we both had been single for a while and we needed a release… I - We said no feeling, no strings attached, and it was possible for a while. I wasn’t looking for anything serious… I wasn’t ready for another relationship, but fuck…” He trailed off and released one of her hands so he could run it over his face. “I caught feelings, Niy. Real ones. And instead of being honest, instead of talking to you like an adult, I panicked.”
“You ran…”
“Yeah,” Josh nodded. “I ran like a coward, and I’m tired of running, Aniyah.”
“Do you know what it felt like?” She asked after a moment of silence fell between the two of them. “It felt like I wasn’t enough,” she said, voice trembling despite her effort to stay composed. “Like I was only good for the parts of you that were convenient. You let me believe I mattered, then you took it all back without a word.” She laughed weakly. “Do you know how stupid that made me feel? Sitting there, replaying every moment, wondering when I crossed a line I didn’t even know existed? Every unread message. Every short reply. Every time you couldn’t even look at me after we fucked.” She spat out.
Aniyah let out a bitter laugh. “I needed you to choose me, or hell, at least give me the option to choose you back; instead, you just tossed me to the side like I was just trash.”
Josh shook his head. “I never meant to make you feel like that, Niy,” he said, voice rough with emotions. But I did. And that’s on me.” He swallowed hard. “You were never just convenient. You were… everything I was afraid of.”
Aniyah scoffed, turning away again. “That’s not comforting.”
“I know.” He stepped closer, “But it’s the truth. You mattered too much. You still do.”
He paused, jaw tightening. “I’d just gotten out of something that wrecked me. I promised myself I wouldn’t fall again. And then you came along, laughing at my dumbass jokes, calling me out on my bullshit, making me feel safe without even trying.” His voice cracked. “I didn’t know how to handle that without losing control.”
“So you decided that breaking my heart was better than telling me the truth?”
Josh nodded, shame written all over his face. “Yeah. And it’s the worst decision I’ve ever made.”
She laughed, sharp and humorless, tears finally spilling over. “Do you know how unfair all this is right now? I spent months putting myself back together!”
He swallowed, “I just needed you to know you were never just sex. You were and always will be something more. You didn’t deserve none of this shit, Niy.”
Aniyah shook her head, tears still streaming down her cheeks as she watched him take another step closer to her.
“I’m not asking for a second chance.” He started, stopping himself just short of touching her. His hands hovered uselessly at his sides, like he didn’t trust himself not to reach for her. “I don’t think I’ve earned that. Not yet. I just want you back in my life, Niyah.”
“I’m not asking to pick back up where we left off.” He added in quickly once she narrowed her eyes at him.
“You expect me to trust you… just like that?” She asked, snapping her fingers.
“No,” Josh answered honestly. “I want to earn your trust again. Prove to you that I can be better. That I can be the person you deserve all along.”
Aniyah bit her bottom lip. “And what about Lauren?”
“Over before it even started.. I promise.”
“And what if I don’t believe you?” She whispered.
“Then I’ll just have to prove it to you. One step at a time, Niyah.”
Aniyah stared at him, her chest tight, the weight of everything they’d been through pressing down on her. For a long moment, silence hung between them, broken only by the distant hum of the city below.
“One step at a time,” she repeated.
Josh let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding and pulled Aniyah into his arms, not missing how she tensed up. “I missed you.” He whispered into her hair.
Aniyah stayed stiff for a heartbeat, then slowly relaxed, letting herself feel the warmth of him without letting it break her completely. “I know,” She whispered into his chest. And for the first time, in a long time, the ache in her chest didn’t feel so heavy.
