after 16 fucking years of catching on fire, toshiba laptop power supplies finally got recalled.
this recall was announced in february 2024 but I just found out about this now and I need to tell everyone.
these fucking power supplies. these FUCKING power supplies. dynabook, formerly known as toshiba, has received over SIX HUNDRED reports of these fucking things melting, burning, smoking, and catching on fire. over how many years? probably since they first went on the market!
fuck these things
over 15 million toshiba power supplies have been recalled, over a decade and a half after they started SETTING SHIT ON FIRE. there are over 60 different models of power adapters being recalled due to their love of arson.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled AC adapters and contact Dynabook Americas for a free replacement AC adapter. Visit http
the recalled units have date codes between april 2008 and december 2012, and were sold until 2014, sold separately and also packaged with brand new toshiba laptops. if you have a toshiba laptop from between 2008 and 2014, there is a solid chance you have one of these power supplies.
it is disgusting how long this recall took. it took until the compatible laptops were not being manufactured and sold anymore to initiate this recall, even though they were catching on fire from the beginning.
check the link above for more information, including model numbers and how to get a replacement.
you can get a free replacement by cutting the cable and emailing dynabook the picture of the destroyed adapter. some customers have reported being able to get a replacement without taking a picture.
if you know anyone who might have these adapters, please tell them. and if buying an old toshiba laptop, make sure you check the power supply. I have seen these adapters catch on fire in person and I still only found out about this recall now.
WHAT TOOK SO FUCKING LONG
everyone reading this, take this recall seriously. toshiba has a long history of their products injuring and killing people by overheating or catching on fire.
there have been several other toshiba recalls due to fire and burn hazards including laptops, laptop batteries, and DVD players. if you have any toshiba laptops or DVD players, consider giving that link a click. it takes you to a list of past toshiba recalls.
these adapters are dangerous and need to be destroyed.
thanks man. my 2015 laptop doesnt work, so i was cleaning up the still-working toshitba satellite recently. i left it plugged into the wall without a battery for DAYS while i was busy. i probably wouldve let that happen more often.
for now i have another cable that it said wasnt a risk, but maaaan
