PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3
The above examples have been provided with the authors' permission to demonstrate what these look like.
Basic rundown:
They are all 3 sentences long
Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post
Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly
There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate
guess who came back from severely broken twitter .
guys i literally cannot do shit on my twt account 😭😭 can't dm people or tweet or whatever the fuck . ELON WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO
woah i haven't been here in a long while ,,,, hello fellow degenerates !!!
posting this for reference (for a fic) so don't mind me
pointers for writinys moving to tumblr ig
censoring isnt a thing here
you can upload 30 images a post, so you can do one whole socmed au update in one single post
you Can post your fic on here, but put it under a read more
no one cares if u block them
make use of the tag filters (they actually work) to avoid content u dislike (eg. ive blocked #ateez x reader)
tag things so ur followers can avoid them !!! just a plain simple tag, because most people wont have variations of every tag accounted for (eg. #yunhwa)
use a custom theme (@theme-hunter has great ones) so that you can have a separate page for your about and dni and stuff
use desktop when you can. the mobile app is not very good and doesnt have as much functionality
dont try to start discourse. you will be mocked
you can use tags to search your own blog! so tag things you like with #save or #bookmark, or have a #reference tag!
spamming reblogs is not the same as being a rt bot. if you never reblog the posts you like, people will think ur an asshole bc likes are private and provide no materail benefit to the op

leaving kudos on ao3 isn’t enough I need to be able to eat the fic
general guidance for my twitter friends migrating over from one hellsite to another:
- censoring isn’t mandatory because the algorithm here isn’t the same at all. if you want to because you like it, go ahead, but unless your posts are tagged (in the tags at the end of a post), they’re not really going to get suggested.
- engagement is VITAL here. if you want your post (or your mutual’s post) to get boosted, reblogging is key, and be sure to add tags.
- as it stands, nsfw fics are fine but nsfw art usually is not. this still seems to be pretty unclear, but if you were here before the p_rn ban and haven’t been back, it’s not as wild wild west as it used to be.
- on the subject of fics/long posts: please please PLEASE remember to add cuts to your posts. (for reference, this is the “keep reading” function) long posts on the tl are generally frowned upon. if it’s over 1000, leave a good snippet (like the summaries on ao3) and then cut it. i’m not sure how to do this on mobile, but on the desktop app, you’ll see a bar with an ellipsis in it: you can click it to insert said cut, then drag it freely around your post.
- do you like html? great! you can highly customise your profile a là myspace era if you so choose, otherwise, the default customisation is also very pretty. you can even add a bunch of photos in between texts on any post (mobile posts included) and it’s very aesthetically pleasing.
- TWs and CWs generally should be tagged at the top of your post AND ALSO IN THE TAGS. you’ll generally see “#tw:____” in the tags of posts for common TWs. please be mindful.
- people here are really kind and generally nice. just don’t be a dick.
- *eta: joining writer community blogs will also help get more eyes on your fics and engagement with your content, so keep that in mind.
and with that, that’s all i really have to say. have fun! or don’t! welcome back to hell!
i will pin him against the glass and peg hi– [gets dragged away]
i love you angel boy
