an intro post because i guess im staying here despite somehow never touching tumblr til i was in my thirties
i did not wake up one day and decide to become obsessed with spy x family. i am too old for this. i have a real job. i have RESPONSIBILITIES. i even have CATS and am HAPPILY MARRIED. but that said, now that sxf has entered my life this blog is here to share the obsession--and probably any other fandoms i find myself actually having time for now that i'm out of grad school.
call me summer, she/her
I write and draw stuff now I guess... Maybe I need a tag bank here now? T.T
Fic list etc below the break ig
CW; some of my externally linked content is adult. it will always be tagged or labeled as such. interact knowing your risks.
My primary fic series is Temporal Realignment:
Tem•po•ral:
of or relating to time and the passing of time
near the sides of one's head, such as the temples
finite as opposed to eternal; earthly, present
ref. the temporal lobe of the brain, responsible for processing language, storing memories and interpreting emotion
A series primarily focused on what it looks like to decide, and keep deciding, to love. It's speckled with the silliness of the original series, but canon divergent obviously. Each individual work is intended to hold its own if you want. Currently in the series:
The delay's quite bad (T) -- 12,024 words --my first fic, a 5+1 identity reveal fic/first kiss fic that i still think is cute though my writing has some issues.
Don't look at the time (T) -- 8,236 words--an interlude of one-shots and the word count might change if i add things
Joint Mission (So this is what it's like) (M) -- 30,676 words--so this is what it's like to be in love first
Pink Hair, Green Eyes, Blue Moon (T) -- 28,839 words --on its face, a "Loid and Yor find out about Anya" fic. Also a "Loid/Twilight identity crisis AGAIN" fic and a "Nightfall lets go of Twilight" fic
Yor's demands (M/E, in progress)-- a follow up to Joint Mission that continues to explore the way their intimacy develops. (now in a side series)
All in Good Time (T, in progress) -- Loid tries to figure out what he likes. He and Yor go on lots of double dates. Plot happens. It's a little silly.
Short fics, in order of how much I like them:
Art Lessons : Anya wants to give Papa a gift (T) -- 1,451 words--Will eventually be merged with Temporal Realignment.
A Spy and his Friend: a Bond POV identity reveal that I'm pretty proud of! (T) -- 3767 words
Rosepetals in the bathwater : a self indulgent tender Twiyor anniversary moment. Uh, not smut, not that there's anything wrong with that. (M) -- 4543 words
Conversations in the Mirror: Loid and Twilight quip back and forth at each other as Twilight stubbornly refuses his emotions (T) -- in progress, but each chapter is on the order of 250 words / a drabble.
Acting: an alternate scene following ch. 129 (G) -- 989 words
In the works:
I have this big idea for a fantasy AU because there's something that hits really hard about elven yearning. I started the series. It takes a lot of effort to write like this ...
Fate's Tears (a first meeting/deconstructed red thread of fate)
Other writing:
a rose asked me (a poem from Twilight's perspective) (i am proud of this one and it's short) (but probably is only good in english and would lose something unless translated very carefully) (would I be able to rewrite this in french while keeping the wordplay?????) (an interesting challenge for someday)
fanart
yes i post my fanart on here. i have been unable to exist just writing things as apparently i also needed to learn to draw for this. please feel my exasperation at the vast amount of time my brain has insisted i spend on making things i'm bad at.
other stuff (meta or something?)
Twilight's Playlist: I made a playlist that I really wanted to capture the feelings I imagine Twilight going through, slowly falling in love with Yor. And then I decided to write about it.
Q: are you even a fan of anything else?
yes, in fact apothecary diaries captured me first and convinced me to give anime another shot. also love: frieren, natsume's book of friends, witch hat atelier, and critical role... CRPGs like pillars of eternity and disco elysium. I've watched the vast majority of Star Trek and love it deeplyy (and other similar shows). and also other things that i wouldn't really call fandom: modern weird scifi/genre-bending fiction, and music that's a weird mix of acoustic/electronic/glitch.
but of all these i'm most likely to also obsess over apothecary diaries/frieren.
Sorry for being slowww!
9: Could you be roommates with this character?
I mean, I could, but my spouse would be quite disturbed to find two people as scatterbrained as me in the house ...
14: Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
OOOOOOOO I am choosing to interpret this the way I want to which is *if this character's personality were turned into a contemporary fashion aesthetic what would it be" (because she's already dressing in pretty classic/conventional 60's wear leaning a little mod maybe??)
(and these days maybe she's somewhere around Twee, except when she's Thorn Princess, when she's more goth or something?)
Let's see, what to capture: She's bubbly and cheerful, and yet willing to throw down when necessary at the drop of a hat, and immensely physically fit. She has a dark side we can't ignore, and is also fiercely loyal.
scrolls through the Aesthetics wiki because my personal list is not doing it
actually screw it, i'm going with my first gut feeling in my heart even if it gets hate
I'll propose SCENE:
not "normal"/ countercultural.
emerging from something fairly dark (emo)
but rejecting a completely dark worldview in favor of something lighter, bubblier
high-energy
demands your full attention
not afraid to throw down
has bangs
Yeah, I can defend it....
Now i want to see fanart of yor in scene fashion T.T i do not have the skill for this...
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
I really like when Yor's weirdness is not ignored and is instead used as a character driver for her. I want to see her continue to slay (literally and figurativey) as the complete disaster (affectionate) that she is! She doesn't have to be normal to be incredible, and I love that! (...neurodivergent QUEEN)
(I hope that her primary character arc in canon is learning to accept herself, and not learning how to change herself into what others find normal)
In the same vein, I personally lose interest in reading when people treat her like she has (only) conventional wants and desires for a woman of her era (.... the one that bothers me most is needing to bear "real" children for example...) because she just ... isn't "normal," and that should be okay, and (with respect to this particular soapbox) she's already had two children to care for at various times in her life. She's clearly an incredible mother, but I like the idea that she's satisfied with what she has and wants to make the world better for the people around her.
Which is not to say I think people shouldn't write this, it's just not for me! I will NEVER tell people not to write what makes them happy!
I wonder if Yor’s ever thought that Loid’s control freak tendencies are related to his previous wife.
Like, maybe Loid asked her to pick up groceries for him one time and she ended up getting hit by a car, so now he feels he has to work three times as hard to make sure he doesn’t have to endure a loss like that ever again.
She also doesn’t know exactly when she died, so Loid could’ve been a grieving single parent for a few years before he met Yor, which would explain why he’s so anxious all of the time.
A lot of people assume Yor is really gullible and just takes things at face value (which, to be fair, she does), but from her perspective, everything about Loid makes sense as a widower trying to raise a child and maintain a stressful job.
Even his normally sullen attitude could be lingering depression from his wife’s death.
From Yor’s point of view, Loid has really been put through the wringer and gone through a lot of undeserved pain. But despite all of that, she still sees him as an incredibly kind and patient man, trying to be the best parent he can be for Anya.
It’s no wonder she wants to be more useful for him: she wants to ease the burdens she thinks he’s been carrying alone.
I feel like starfish are one of those animals that are treated as very “normal” by people but absolutely shouldn’t be. Like they’re a wheel of repeating heads connected by a central stomach. They walk around using thousands of tiny sticky hydraulically powered tentacles. They have an eye on the end of each arm. Instead of having a mouth they just have an opening where their entire stomach can be pushed out to engulf prey. And they’re just allowed to exist like this. It’s not illegal or anything.

Also, consider. A magical version of the bends. Whenever someone from a non- or low-magical land has to go into a very magic rich forest or land or dimension, having to take breaks to let their bodies adjust to the new magic exposure or else their blood will boil in their veins or they'll Transform
actually the bends only kicks in when you try to LEAVE the high pressure area. or in this case, magic rich area?
Getting deeper and deeper into feywilds and knowing that however deep you get, it’s gonna take twice as long to escape without magic tearing its way out of you
jinshi staring at maomao as she eats because that is the base amount of care one can grant to another human being, because servants usually eat their masters leftovers, because maomao used to be so physically frail and slight and so, so hungry. even when she is not as frail and hungry, he still watches her, content with watching her until she states that he can't go hungry as she eats, either. she is an apothecary, a physician, and he can't be her physician in return. but food is it's own kind of medicine, and he will make sure she does not go hungry under his watch.
personally I'm annoyed by the socioeconomic conditions that made words like "unalive" necessary but simultaneously impressed by the linguistic adaptations young people have made to continue talking about important things while subject to those conditions and I think if you can't hold both of those thoughts in your head you might just be old man yelling at cloud
Two of my niblings (10 and 7) self-censor like this in real life during actual conversations. I tried briefly to explain to the 10-year-old that they didn't have to do that in real life after they said "unalive" out loud in casual conversation, and they just said they preferred to. On the one hand, I'm sad to see them unconsciously and fully without awareness succumbing to the panopticon. On the other... this post.
it's not unprecedented in the evolution of languages to see euphemisms adopted as synonyms or even supplanting earlier terms. lots of people say "passed away" even in situations where there would be no particular social cost to saying "died".
for a particularly strong version of this kind of replacement: the word "bear" comes from a proto-Germanic word meaning "brown one" because there was a taboo against saying the animal's actual name. the taboo is gone but it was so strong in the past that we have no record of what the proto-Germanic word for "bear" even was.
maybe in 300 years the word "die" will be archaic and kids will dig it out of an etymology textbook and start using it because "unalive" is getting censored.
die has actually already undergone this process. die originally meant "flow" (i guess it's like you're flowing out of life or something? or maybe your life is flowing out of you idk). it was (probably) loaned from old norse to displace the now obsolete "swelt". and yes, that is the root word of "sweltering"
