so @i-was-a-raider dragged me & keero cut s2 across the finish line. not only did she cut the entire ghorman massacre like a pro but she performed actual magic on all the little mistakes i made in cutting the other episodes & made sure there was actual narrative continuity where i forgot it. this wouldn’t have gotten finished without her and i cannot express just how grateful i am that she took the WIP i had and dead sprinted to the finish line with it. 100000/10, thank you thank you thank you, & any remaining weirdness in the cut is my fault.

ok so this probably isnt a popular take on keero but i am really deeply enamoured of the idea that syril doesn’t allow himself to fully see or know dedra as a real human person

like i’m sure he knows her likes and dislikes and can predict fairly well what she’d say or do as a reaction to something and is all in all a very very devoted attentive partner BUT but. he never quite takes those rose coloured glasses off he refuses to let her down from that place of honour on the pedestal. she’s something More than him Higher Up than him An Untouchable Symbol Of All That Is Good And Right. and that keeps him from truly knowing and understanding her as a real person instead of an ideal. and that doesnt necessarily mean he thinks she’s perfect (sometimes she puts utensils down crooked …) or that he’s never seen her weak or vulnerable, but just that he mentally Others her in a way that forever blocks him from seeing her as a human peer.

this is the same way men will so often deify or demonize women and because of it refuse to see them as fully human and capable of both competence and fallibility and multifacetedness the way they themselves are. particularly men who eventually become violent or controlling towards their partners when that self-made illusion of perfection shatters. because either women aren’t people (positive) or women aren’t people (negative). there is never equal partnership

i just find it so compelling if his misogyny (among many other things) is what brings him down. his inability to do anything but put dedra on a pedestal as the arbiter of Truth And Justice or choke her damn her discard her as a villain. she cannot be multifaceted she cannot be anything other than an untouchable idea instead of a person like him. he resigns her without realizing it to the role of a symbol to worship or denigrate. she is the empire to him, for good or for ill. she can be divine or she can be a monster but there is no room for her to retain her humanity.
