Hi! May I request a oneshot where Sungchan comes home from the gym a little later than usual and it ends up making the reader a little irritated, but in the end Sungchan makes it up to them by acting all lovey dovey towards them? Thank you sm if you do write it!! (If not it's fine dw) 🫶
i love this request i’ll take any chance to write something to do with gym sungchan
…
The soft glow of the TV had been the only light in your apartment for the past hour. Sungchan was supposed to be home from the gym at 9 so you could spend some time together having a movie night before he had to leave for a schedule in a different country tomorrow afternoon. It wasn’t a long schedule, just a few days, but dating an idol had always been difficult regardless of where the schedules were.
There were just so many.
You decide to call it quits after a few more minutes, shutting the TV off and dumping the big bowl of stale popcorn and melted chocolate chips in the trash bin. It wasn’t like Sungchan to miss a date night or come home late, but you know he would call you if something was wrong.
Just before you make it to your bedroom to call it a night, the apartment door opens. Sungchan walks in with his usual smile, oblivious to the disappointed partner standing in the hallway across from him.
“I’m home! I brought boba!” He notices the dark apartment and faint smell of buttery popcorn. You see the moment realization dawns on him. His smile drops and his eyes look big, and guilt ridden. He quickly places the two cups on the counter and shrugs his duffle bag off before turning the light on and seeing you in the hallway.
“I forgot about movie night, I’m so sorry…”
You want to forgive him just because of the sad pout on his lips but you couldn’t seem to shake the irritation. It wasn’t like him to just ‘forget’ about things that were important to you. “It doesn’t matter anymore.” You sigh and walk into the bedroom leaving him alone in the doorway.
“Hey… I know I messed up, can I try to make it up to you?” He peeks his head into the bedroom and quietly moves to sit beside you on the bed. You feel the mattress dip first, then his fingers drawing shapes on your back. “Even if it doesn’t work and you’re still upset. Please let me try?”
You let out a sigh knowing he’ll be able to win you over in a matter of minutes but nod anyways.
“For starters…” He quickly rushes out of the room only to return with the boba he had brought home. He hands you your cup and straw with a small smile but an unmistakeable light in his eyes. “It’s from that shop on the other side of town that we never have time to go to. I had it delivered while I was at the gym and kept it in the cooler until I got home.”
You can feel your heart squeeze in your chest as he mentions keeping the drinks cold in the cooler while he was working out. “Thanks.” You sit up and take the cold cup from his hands. Your fingers purposely brush his while you accept the treat, he can’t help the way the corner of his lips curve up just from the small action. “I was thinking about you all day.” He puts his drink on the nightstand and wraps his arms around your torso while laying on top of you. His head sits under your chin, his breath warm on your chest. “Our song came on while I was working out, I thought about how much you love poking my abs and kissing my bicep.” The sweet cuddly boy on you right now is a huge contrast to the blatant way he’s calling you out for ogling his physique on a daily basis.
You flick his head. “Don’t use your muscles as a distraction, I’m still upset.” Sungchan pouts as you immediately shut him down. He lifts his head to look at you with a growing smirk, he takes your hand and places it on his lower stomach over the thin fabric of his shirt. “You’re evil.” You can barely even mutter the words before you catch yourself smiling. Sungchan’s beaming and flexing the already defined muscles under your fingertips. “Say you forgive me…” He kisses your knuckle before grabbing your boba and taking a sip. He places it on the nightstand then gets up and stands beside you near the bed. “Sungchan what are you-“
Before you can get your words out, he’s picking you up throwing you over his shoulder while laughing softly. “Come on, we have a movie to watch.” You squirm in his grip but can’t seem to stop laughing. “Sungchan, put me down!” He shakes his head. “Say it…”
“Fine, I forgive you!”
grocery shopping with sungchan and he’s the one pushing the cart and he’s distracted by everything and wants to buy everything so when you pick up an item to put in the cart he’s like 20 feet behind you begging you if he can get the random thing he found
shopping with sungchan
…
The market was quiet at this time in the morning. Aside from the low hum of the freezers and quiet radio playing throughout the store, there was no other sound. It was too quiet.
You stop in your tracks and turn around expecting to see your boyfriend pushing the cart behind you, only to be met with an empty aisle. “Sungchan?” You head straight to the snack section knowing enough about him to know he would likely be filling the cart there while you were distracted. The market is a small family-owned shop you had only been to a handful of times, close to Sungchan’s house and full of his favorite snacks. The owners have known him since he was a teenager and often give him discounts and make conversation while you’re in the store with him.
“I knew you’d be here…” You walk up to the familiar tall boy pushing the cart that is now full of chips and cookies. “Sorry, I got distracted. They have new snacks.” He points to the shelf excitedly while you put the groceries from your arms into the cart. “These are from Japan.” He shows you a colorful bag of chips from the cart.
“Is there even enough room in here for all this?” You laugh softly and poke his stomach. He catches your hand and gently pulls you in to kiss the top of your head. “You know there is.” He hums softly against your hair in thought before his head perks up again like a dog smelling meat. “What are these?!” He rushes to the other side of the aisle to look at an instant coffee box.
“I’ll get the cart.” You start to catch up with him as he tosses in two boxes of instant coffee you know he’ll forget about. “Chan… do we need all this?” He looks at the cart for a moment before scrunching his nose and grabbing a few items. “I’ll just get one of each so we can try them all.” Sungchan starts returning snacks to the shelf, making sure they’re in the right spot before walking back to you.
“I’m gonna get the actual groceries now, okay?” He nods and starts pushing the cart closely behind you. As you reach for the items, he stays close by, keeping himself and the shopping cart within arm’s length for you to easily shop.
“I know you usually get the white bread but they’re out so-“ The bag of wheat bread hits the floor as you move to place it in the cart that should be behind you. “Sungchan…” He looks up at the sound of his name and smiles bashfully.
Near the start of the aisle, stood your boyfriend holding some sort of mango jelly.
“Can we get this too?”

…
Anton had been speaking to you for the past few minutes. Mumbling through his words nervously about ‘something important’ he came over at midnight to tell you.
You know it’s rude to completely tune him out like this, but you also couldn’t really help it. He kept nervously licking his lower lip leaving a soft gloss coating the pretty pink color. His cheeks were flushed and his big eyes kept looking from you to the wall behind you. Anton always looked beautiful but there was something different about tonight.
“Okay, let’s slow down and try again. You haven’t gotten any real words out.”
You place your hand on Anton’s knee to try and ground him, but the touch is suddenly too close and too warm. You always struggled to find the safe space between best friends and more. He watches quietly as you immediately pull your hand back like he burned you.
“I didn’t mean to come over so abruptly, I know you like to sleep early when you have plans the next day…” Anton speaks quietly with his gaze glued to his own hands like they’re the most interesting thing in the world.
“Anton it’s fine. Obviously, you have something important to tell me.” He looks up at the sound of your words and nods quietly. You can see the moment he gets lost in thought, his eyes focused too intensely on you, he bites the corner of his lower lip.
“Anton-“
“-I want to be more than this.”
Both of your eyes widen in shock. It looks like Anton’s life flashes before his eyes, fear and anxiety flooding his expression. You take a moment to calm yourself before asking for clarification. Getting your hopes up right now would likely lead to disappointment.
“What do you mean?”
He sighs and looks down at his hands again. The pink shade of his cheeks makes his lips look even prettier.
“I don’t want to be best friends anymore, I want to be your boyfriend. Or at least go on a date with you. I want to kiss you.” He presses his face into his hands and sighs. “So bad.”
All you can do is let out a relieved laugh which causes him to look up like a kicked puppy.
“Then kiss me. I want to kiss you too. So bad.” Anton’s eyes search yours for any sign of a punchline or doubt. His hands are shaky as they reach to cup your face, thumb rubbing over your cheekbone as if waiting for you to pull away. His eyes search your face once more before he leans in.
His lips are soft and careful, missing any hint of need or passion. You can tell he hasn’t done this too many times, especially not with someone he cares this much about. He’s nervous to mess this up or overwhelm you.
“Anton…” Your foreheads rest together as you pull back, breathing each other in. “Yeah…?” he sounds breathless already from a quick kiss. “You can kiss me properly. I won’t break.”
He lets out a ragged breath before his hand finds the back of your neck, pulling you in closer as his lips find yours again. It’s messy this time, full of passion you’ve only ever seen him show on stage. His other hand finds your hip and easily pulls you to straddle him. The mattress dips below you both, sheets rumpled around Anton’s muscular thighs.
“I’ve wanted this for a long.” He speaks into your mouth. The kiss was uncoordinated, full of soft sighs and shaky breaths. He slips his hands under the fabric of your shirt. His fingers are cold against your warm skin causing you to arch into the touch. He groans lowly at the reaction and slides his fingertips over your stomach and ribs. You can feel his tongue slide over your lower lip, warm and wet as he tries to coax your lips open for him. Letting him in, you slide your hands from his shoulders down his defined chest and rigid abs over his loose shirt. Your fingers toy with the belt loop of his jeans, his hips stutter forward involuntarily.
“Anton…” You pull back and rest your foreheads together breathing heavily against each others' mouths.
“I got carried away.” He laughs breathlessly, hands gently rubbing over your hips while he catches his breath. “It’s okay, I did too.” You lean forward resting your head in the crook of his neck.
“We should talk about what you said before jumping into things.” He shivers from the feeling of your breath on his sensitive skin.
“Agreed.”
Last Train
Chapters: 1-8
Sungchan x Fem Reader
Strangers to Lovers Based off a request
Plot: You meet a mystery artist late at night when you both miss the last train home.
Warnings: Some angst and high tension scenarios, no full smut scenes but it gets close in chapter 7.
Chapter 1
The lights of the club are practically blinding you; the music louder than you’d like. Clubs had never been your thing, but your best friend dragged you here occasionally, so he didn’t have to go alone. You down another drink he buys you and pull out your phone to check the time. “Shotaro! It’s getting late I don’t wanna miss the train!” You shout at your friend over the music. He lives only a block away from the club and you would normally crash at his place, but you have family visiting tomorrow that you need to clean your apartment for. Your friend frowns and hugs you tightly, the flowy fabric of his sparkly top brushing against the bit of exposed skin your crop top shows. He yells in your ear “text me like every two minutes until you’re home and safe, okay?!” You laugh as he yells into your ear and nod. “I will! You get home safe too!” With that, you start running for the last train.
The last train had left almost ten minutes ago now. You realize this as you arrive at the station and check the time; you had grossly underestimated the walk time from the club to the station. Letting out a sigh, you sit on the bench and try to clear your head. A taxi or uber now would be so expensive and Taro was too drunk to drive you. You press your face into your hands as the effect of the alcohol starts to wear off and you become much more aware of your current predicament. You hear a groan come from across the platform as footsteps slow from a run to a stop. A tall guy, around your age, maybe a little older. He’s wearing a long coat with a grey scarf that’s tightly wrapped around him. He checks the time on his wristwatch and sighs before walking towards the bench and noticing you. “You missed it too?” You say trying to lighten the mood as you realize you and this random guy were both stranded at nearly 1:30 in the morning. “He doesn’t say anything, just nods as he sits down on the bench leaving a generous amount of space between the two of you. You can sense his frustration and decide it’s probably best to not try and spark conversation with him again. You pull out your phone and send a text to your other friend knowing it’s finals season for him and he’s likely fast asleep right now.
“Eunseok pls be awake im stuck at the train station with a random guy”
You sigh as you send the message knowing he’s not going to see your message until morning, or at least later that morning. The sound of a pencil on paper snaps you out of your thoughts. Turning to see the mysterious boy beside you sketching in a small book. The sketch is incredibly realistic, a portrait of someone. “That’s amazing.” You say quietly as you watch him sketch. “Thanks.” He says quietly. Knowing you’re going to be here for a while, you decide to at least try and start a conversation. “Are you an artist?” You ask him as you continue to watch him effortlessly sketch a mystery person. He nods quietly. “Designer... kind of.” He says as he closes the book and stands up. “Do you... have a way home?” He says hesitantly. You shake your head looking embarrassed. “My friend is driving me home, if you live close, I could ask if he’ll drive you to your place or at least near it.” You hesitate; you had no idea who this guy was and there was a chance he did this nightly, luring girls into his friend's car to do God knows what. “I’m okay, thank you though.” You say as you wrap your jacket tighter around you. He sighs. “I’m not some creep, you don’t have to come with me, but your only other option is spending the rest of the night here in a sketchy train station alone.” He says as he looks down at you. You know he’s right, but you also knew the dangers of getting in a random guy's car. “I’m okay, really. I appreciate it though.” You say with a half-smile. He nods and ducks his head down as he walks off. “I hope you get home safely.” He says before exiting the station.
A few minutes pass and you let out a frustrated groan knowing you have to call a taxi. As you take your phone out of your pocket you hear someone shouting from the platform. “Hello! Is there a girl in here?” You stand up quickly ready to run out of the station if needed. “You notice a woman walking into the station. “The meter is running let’s go, the guy gave me sixty bucks.” You furrow your brows in confusion. “I think you have the wrong person.” You say as you look at the woman. She shakes her head. “The tall guy in the scarf, gave me sixty bucks and said to take the girl in the station home. Unless there’s another girl in here, I have the right person.” You stare at her in shock before quickly grabbing your bag off the bench and jogging up to her. “Oh... thank you.” The woman laughs as you climb into the taxi. “Don’t thank me thank your boyfriend.” She says as she starts the car. “Where are we headed?” She asks. You give her your address and pull your phone out immediately texting Shotaro. “Getting home safely but i have the craziest story to tell u tmrw” You lean forward slightly to talk to the driver. “Did the guy give you any contact information?” She hums in thought before looking on a device attached to the car. “The order was under the name Sungchan Jung.” She says as she starts driving.
You open your phone and type “Sungchan Jung” into your notes before turning off the screen and looking out the window as the taxi takes you home.
Chapter 2
“No, that is so not him! I told you he was cute!” You throw a gummy worm at your cousin Anton as you both look for the mystery boy from the train station on social media. “What this guy seemed your type?” He says while showing you the profile of an older businessman that lives in Detroit. “I know we haven’t seen each other in a while but you know that is so not my type.” You tell him as you sink into the couch throwing your phone onto the pillow below you. Anton puts his phone down and looks at you. “The dude might just not have social media? Maybe he has an art account or something? Online portfolio?” You shoot up from the couch. “You’re a genius!” You shout as you run to your room to grab your laptop. Moments later you’re both hunched over the laptop on the floor searching for a graphic design portfolio that might belong to Sungchan Jung. Anton stops your fingers from scrolling on the trackpad. “Wait what’s that one?” He moves your hand away and clicks a website titled “Sungjungstudios” He carefully scrolls through the website reading the information posted. Clicking the “About Me” page, he scrolls to the bottom to reveal a small portrait.
“STOP! IT’S HIM!” You shout while slapping Anton’s hand off the trackpad and grabbing the laptop looking at the information. “It says he’s a 23-year-old recent graduate from design school. He lives around here.” You tell your cousin excitedly. “Contact him, what are you waiting for?” He says. You scoff and laugh at his suggestion. “Yeah, definitely not are you insane?” You say as you stare at the photo on the website. He’s faintly smiling without showing teeth, his bangs messily yet-perfectly placed. “Why did we spend-” Anton looks at the clock on the wall before responding. “Almost 45 minutes looking for him then...?” You shrug following his gaze to the clock, its nearing midnight, the movie you two had been watching ended almost an hour ago. “Just wanted to see if I could find him.” You say as you pack up the bags of candy from the coffee table. Anton shakes his head with a laugh as he starts collecting the soda cans and helps you tidy up. “You had me thinking I was helping you find your prince charming you know?” He says as he recycles the cans and helps you put chip clips on the unfinished bags of candy. “Yeah, well you know I’m not the type of person to just reach out to strangers.” You say before helping Anton set up the pull-out mattress for the night.
Once you’ve finished your skincare and climbed into bed for the night, you scroll through Sungchans portfolio again. It’s full of beautiful mock-ups of campaign designs and business startups, a separate page for his sketches and paintings. Looking down at the “Contact Me” option for the millionth time, you decide to click it. The worst that could happen is he ignores you... right...? It prompts you to fill in your name and phone number before typing in a message. You fill in the boxes and scroll to the message option.
“Hey, I was the girl at the station!” Gross, delete that.
“You paid for my taxi yesterday.” No, he probably does that a lot.
“Hi!” What are you even doing?
You slam the laptop shut and shove your face into your pillow groaning in frustration. You turn the bedside lamp off and decide to call it a night, you’ll think of something to say tomorrow. Looking up at the ceiling you let out a breath and close your eyes ready for sleep.
No.
Suddenly the laptop is back in your lap opened to sungjungstudios, specifically the “Contact Me” page. You fill out the name and number boxes again before opening the message option. “Not sure if you remember me, but you paid for my taxi last night. I’ll buy you a coffee as a thanks if you’re interested :)" You press send before giving yourself the chance to overthink it and quickly close your laptop. Placing the laptop on the floor beside your bed you let out a breath. This was so unlike you.
The next morning arrives quickly; you hear Anton’s third alarm going off from the living room. Letting out a sigh and stretching your legs, you reach for your phone on the nightstand to see it’s only 8am. Your phone is flooded with messages from Shotaro and Eunseok in your group chat. You had sent them the portfolio website last night when Anton found it. They were talking about it in the group chat while you were asleep. Both of your friends “approved” of the portfolio and the boy which makes you laugh before scrolling through your notifications. You freeze up when you see a certain notification. “RE: SUNGJUNGSTUDIOS” You click the notification immediately wanting to see what he had said. The message was short:
“Hello! This is a strictly business contact, please refrain from contacting me here for personal matters. Thank you.
Sungchan Jung”
You stare at the screen with wide eyes feeling humiliated. You scroll to the bottom of the email noticing an attachment. It takes a moment to gather the courage to click it, afraid it’s just another passive aggressive message telling you to leave him alone. Once you click it, it takes you to the contacts app on your phone showing the name “Sungchan” and his phone number along with an option to add the contact to your phone or not. You press accept and it automatically adds him as a contact to your phone with a contact image of him, the same one from his website. So maybe he doesn’t hate you... Tapping the message icon, you send a quick message.
“Hi, it’s the girl from the train station. Is this Sungchan?”
He replies within mere seconds.
“Hi, this is Sungchan. Is the coffee offer still there?”
Chapter 3
Shotaro and Eunseok lay on your bed as you fix your hair for the tenth time that afternoon. “I promise you look fine.” Eunseok says as his head hangs over the side of your mattress. “You don’t get it; one half is flatter than the other.” You say with an eye roll. Shotaro laughs and gets up from the bed to look at you. “I promise you look great besides, having flat hair is better than being ten minutes late.” He says as he shows you his phone, the time now 3:40 when you were supposed to leave at 3:30. Your eyes widen, and you grab your phone and jacket. “Come on!” You shout at your friends before running to the door. You’re the first to get to Eunseok’s car and climb into the passenger seat. Shotaro gets into the back as you both wait for Eunseok to arrive. He’s always been the rational one out of the three of you, the designated driver, the one that makes sure to lock the door, turn out the lights, unplug your straightener, etc. Eunseok hands you his phone letting you pick the music as he starts the car. “Taro and I were placing bets on who would be the first to get a date this year and he owes me ten dollars now.” Eunseok says as he starts to drive. You look back at Shotaro in the back seat and lightly slap his knee. “Hey! You thought I wasn’t capable?” He smacks Eunseok’s shoulder and gives you an apologetic smile. “Just shy...” He says with a small shrug.
You arrive at the cafe only two minutes late, waving Eunseok and Shotaro off as you watch Shotaro climb to the passenger seat as the car drives off. The cafe is familiar; you and Anton had gone twice since he came to stay with you for the month. You pull your phone out and look at the contact photo of Sungchan hoping to recognize him at a table. It doesn’t take long to find a taller man in jeans and a button up shirt sketching on a napkin. Walking over to the table you wave politely. “Sungchan?” You say with a nervous smile. He nods and gestures for you to sit. “That’s me, how did you end up finding me?” He crumples up the napkin and puts it aside. “The taxi driver gave me your name.” You say as you notice the napkin. “What were you drawing?” You say as you reach for it. “Working on a website homepage for the place I'm interning at.” You open the thin paper and see multiple designs scribbled out of what appears to be a real estate companies' website. You nod as you look at the designs. “These are really cool, you’re super talented.” He looks down at the table as if he’s blushing which causes you to smile. It’s a little awkward but in a comfortable way. He looks up at you with a light pink dancing across his cheeks and nose. “Should we order?” He asks as he stands up and reaches for your hand to help you up. It’s your turn to blush now as you take his hand and stand from your chair.
“The matcha latte here is really good.” You say as you point to the menu above the counter. Sungchan nods and looks at the menu. “That’s my usual order here.” He says with a laugh. You smile up at him. “Mine too.” The barista walks up to the counter and asks if you’re ready to order as you walk forward reaching for your wallet. “Two matcha lattes.” Sungchan says as he taps his card. Your eyes widen and you step forward looking up at him. “I said I would pay.” You look between the counter and him, and he laughs and shakes his head. “You can next time.” He says with a hopeful smile which nearly makes your heart explode and color rise to your cheeks. “Deal.” You say as you both grab your drinks from the barista.
The two of you sit down at your table near the window and talk about work and your lives. The conversation flows naturally, and you can’t help but feel drawn to Sungchan’s contagious laughter. You mention that your cousin is staying with you for the month and ask about his family. He stutters and takes a sip of his drink. “Oh I- I don’t have any family.” He says and abruptly changes the subject. You don’t want to be insensitive on a first date, but you can’t help but wonder what happened between him and his family. Abandoning the topic and switching it to the music you’re currently interested in you notice he seems more relaxed. He tells you about a band he’s been into recently and to your surprise, he’s a big fan of pop girlies.
The afternoon turns to evening and before you know it, you two had been at the cafe for three hours. Sungchan is the first to notice the time and lets you know he needs to go home to work on the website design he had mentioned earlier. He offers you a hand up and hands you your coat from the back of your chair with a shy charming smile. “Are you driving home?” You ask him as you notice him grabbing his keys from his small pile of belongings on the table. “No, I try to take transit when I can.” He says as you both start walking out of the cafe. You hum in thought while walking through the door he opens for you. “I’d like to say I'm that environmentally cautious, but I just can’t drive.” You say with a light laugh. He starts walking down the street towards the train station with you. “Well, I didn’t know that, you definitely could’ve fooled me.” He says as he lightly nudges you with his elbow. You shake your head as you both laugh. “I could’ve if I was able to stop oversharing for two seconds.”
As the city gets dark you sit on the train beside Sungchan, the conversation has died down a little, but you enjoy watching Sungchan sketch in his little black book he has resting on his knees. You arrive at your stop and let him know you need to leave to which he stands up and offers to walk you to your apartment. You shake your head and gently squeeze his hand in appreciation. “No don’t worry about it, I don’t want you to have to wait for the next train. I’ll be okay.” He nods and his gaze falls to your lips which causes your cheeks to heat up. The train speaker announces the train doors will be closing. “Next time.” You say to Sungchan with a quiet laugh as you run off the train.
As the train leaves the station he shyly looks at you out the window waving sheepishly with a small smile.
Chapter 4
When you arrive home that evening, you’re greeted by Anton on the couch with a knowing smile. “So, you did reach out to him after all...” He says as he watches you take your coat and shoes off at the door. Your cheeks heat up as you laugh and shake your head. “Maybe.” You say while walking over to join your cousin on the couch. He moves over, giving you room and puts his phone down. “How did it go?” You smile down at your hands as you speak. “Pretty well, we went to that cafe I took you to before and he paid even though I offered to.” Anton gently hits your arm. “You’re practically giggling over him, please tell me you two are going on a second date.” His words remind you of Sungchan’s earlier mention of “next time” which causes you to smile again. “We are.” You say with a shy but excited smile.
Later that night you decide you’re tired of being too afraid to text first and pull your phone out opening Sungchan’s contact and thinking of what to say. Deciding on a simple message you decide to thank him for the latte and say you had fun. Once it’s sent, you turn your phone off and start washing up for the night.
Sinking into the mattress and pulling your phone out, you scroll through social media for a bit as you wait to grow tired. A notification snaps you out of your thoughts. It’s a message from Sungchan. “You don’t need to keep thanking me for paying, I wanted to. I had fun too! Maybe next time we can get dinner or something.” You involuntarily smile at your phone reading the message over and over again. “I just like expressing my gratitude :)" You send back before typing another message. “Dinner sounds fun, what are you thinking?” A warm feeling washes over you as you smile towards the dim light of your phone in your otherwise dark room. Something about this boy made you feel content. He was easy to talk to and the perfect mix of excitement and mystery. “Burgers!” The notification grabs your attention, which you find funny. “A man that knows what he likes.” You reply quickly before turning your phone off and rolling over to sleep. The warm buzz in your head and the butterflies in your stomach lingering as you wait for sleep to take over.
When Sungchan had suggested burgers, you didn’t think he meant this. He drags you through the crowd with a warm smile. Putting his other arm slightly in front of you as the two of you walk to stop anyone from bumping into you. The street festival is energetic with dancers and sellers set up along the sides of the closed off road. Someone politely stops the two of you and puts cheap plastic crowns on your heads. Sungchan smiles and thanks the person. The crown sits prettily in his hair, almost as pretty as the bright smile on his face as he looks down at you. “How do I look?” He says with a laugh. “Like a prince, of course.” You reply as you take your phone out and open your camera. Sungchan notices you’ve taken a photo and grabs your phone gently turning the camera to face you both. “Smile princess.” He says as he pokes your crown to emphasize his joke. You both laugh and he takes a few pictures before handing your phone back to you. “Where are the burgers?” You say as you look around at the vendors and various food trucks celebrating the first day of summer festival. “Just down here.” He says as he takes your hand again and leads you down the street.
The little stand is undeniably adorable, a small duck that appears to be wearing a black hat as the logo and a kind looking boy working the stand as another grills burgers. “Sungchan!” The boy says and waves the two of you over. Sungchan jogs over to the stand and hugs the worker. “Sohee!” He says as he pulls back. Before the two of them can continue their conversation Sungchan points to you with a proud smile. “This is my date.” He beams. The worker, Sohee, you’re assuming smiles and nods. “Nice to meet you.” He says as he shakes your hand and offers a smile. “I’m Sohee and this is my best friend Seunghan.” The boy says as he points to the boy grilling orders behind him. You wave politely at Seunghan and he smiles kindly as he greets you. “Two burgers? Or are you gonna eat four again?” Sohee asks Sungchan as he starts to write an order down. “That was only once...” Sungchan says as he awkwardly scratches the back of his neck, and his cheeks turn pink. Sohee laughs and hands the paper to Seunghan. “Sure it was.” Seunghan says over his shoulder as he looks at the paper and starts making the food.
You and Sungchan wave goodbye to his friends at the burger stand as you walk away with your food. You can’t deny how good the burgers smell and how excited Sungchan looks at the thought of eating them. “Your friends are sweet.” You say as you take a bite of the burger and walk through the festival with Sungchan. “Thanks, I met them in my old group home, and we’ve been keeping in touch ever since.” He looks back at his friends for a moment before speaking again. “I’m glad Sohee met Seunghan, they’re inseparable now and he seems much happier.” Sungchan adds as he starts eating. You nod in thought, what did he mean by group home? “Look! A photobooth!” Sungchan says with a smile as he drags you away once again.
As you arrive home that night, Sungchan smiles sheepishly and watches you unlock your door. “Thanks for letting me drag you out to a festival.” He says as he looks down at you. “I had fun.” You smile back at him. He’s been looking from your eyes down to your lips, and back up since you had arrived at your door. “Maybe next time you’ll have the guts to kiss me.” You add with a soft laugh. His eyes widen slightly, not in an embarrassed way but more shocked. The look on his face almost unreadable. “Oh- I didn’t mean-” He shakes his head as you try to backpedal. “Can I?” He cuts you off. Your stomach fills with butterflies as you nod quietly. “Of course.” You say trying to hide a smile. He’s hesitant as he leans down and gently puts his thumb under your chin to tilt your head up. His lips are soft and warm; a hint of a lingering soda taste as he pulls back with a nervous but beaming smile. You return the smile as you look up at him again. “I should get back before I miss my train.” He says as he fights off the warmth from his cheeks and the corners of his lips curling up. “Get home safely.” You say as you wave him off.
You open your apartment with a smile painted across your features to see your cousin standing way too close to the door for it to be a coincidence. He stares at you trying not to laugh. “Were you spying?!” You shout at him without any real anger in your tone. Anton laughs and puts his hands up in defense. “I wanted to know if you two would kiss before I left!” He says through a laugh. “Weirdo.” You say as you flop down on the couch, and he follows close behind. You spend the evening taking Buzzfeed quizzes and talking over the show you two had lost interest in. Your mind somewhere else as you remember the feeling of Sungchan’s lips and the pretty curve of his eyes when he smiles down at you.
Chapter 5
The airport was quiet at 5 that morning when you dropped Anton off. You didn’t realize how much you missed him until he was around again, and the world seemed less stressful.
When you arrive back at your apartment that morning it seems much quieter, less lively. There’s no smell of whatever food Anton had been cooking, no low hum of music he had recently found through a friend in the industry. Sitting down on the couch, you pull your phone out and notice a missed notification from Sungchan.
“Good morning :)”
“Can I come see you?”
The messages distract you from the mellow thoughts of your cousin leaving for South Korea earlier that morning. You smile down at the notifications and open your messages with Sungchan, clicking the photo of him with a plastic crown on that you had set as his contact photo.
“Of course”
You hit send then start scrolling through your social media feeds as you wait for him to arrive. The past few weeks have been much more fun than usual with Anton around and Sungchan showing up out of the blue. Now that Anton’s gone you wonder if Sungchan will be able to see you more often. His internship is very demanding and though it’s from home, it keeps him busy most of the time. He’s always willing to text or call you but you don’t see him in person much.
A knock on the door brings you out of your thoughts and you quickly stand up heading over to unlock it. Sungchan stands at the door in a pair of grey sweats and a black hoodie unzipped to reveal his black top underneath. His face is lit up by his familiar eye smile as he holds two large sunflowers out to you. “What are these for?” You ask as you take them with a wide smile and let Sungchan into your apartment. Sungchan smiles back at you and walks in taking his shoes off. “Saw them on the way here and thought you’d like them.” He says while looking around the apartment. “Is your cousin home?” He asks as his eyes scan the main room. “I actually just dropped him off at the airport.” You say as you walk over to the couch and sit down. Sungchan nods quietly as he joins you and idly draws shapes on your leg. The gesture small, yet very intimate leaving you with a field of butterflies in your stomach.
“How are you holding up? I know you two are super close.” Sungchan asks as he tilts his head to look down at you. You think about the question for a moment. Sure, you knew Anton was only staying for a month but at the same time, did you use your time to the best of your ability? You never got to go to the aquarium or that one record shop with him. “I’m just gonna miss him a lot.” You decide on the answer not wanting to sound too upset but also not happy that he’s gone. Sungchan hums in response and gently moves his hand from your thigh to your hand, his soft fingers intertwine with yours and he squeezes gently. “He’ll visit again next year, right?” You nod your head and look down at your hands with a small smile. “Maybe you can hang out with him next year when he comes back.”
Sungchan tenses up at your words, his fingers pull away from yours leaving your hands colder than normal. He seems lost in thought as he stares down at your empty hand. The silence is deafening and the tension in Sungchan’s shoulders only worsens. “Sungchan?” The mention of his name manages to bring him back to earth and he looks at you with slightly wide eyes as if he’s seen a ghost. “Next year?” He says in an almost worried tone.
Did he not want to be with you next year? Did he just see this as a summer fling, and he wanted out before anything serious happened?
“I... I thought so...” You say hesitantly. Sungchan’s jaw tightens, not out of anger but out of an emotion you can’t quite pinpoint. Sungchan stands up quietly. “I don’t think this is going to work.” He says with a shaky voice, his hands zipping and unzipping his hoodie out of nerves. “What?” Your voice nearly breaks as you ask the question, you’re hoping this is just a poorly executed joke.
Any chance of it being a joke is gone though, as he walks towards the door to put his shoes on. You watch in near shock as he starts doing up his laces. “Sungchan where are you going?” You say as you stand up and follow him to the door with tears threatening to spill. He avoids your gaze as he looks down at his shoes. “I wasn’t thinking, I don’t think I can do anything serious right now with my internship and schedule. I’m sorry.” His voice is shaking as if it hurts him more than you. “What? We’ve been making it work for a month now, what changed?” Sungchan looks at you with glassy eyes and shakes his head. “I’m sorry.” With that, he leaves your apartment and closes the door behind him.
If your apartment wasn’t quiet from Anton leaving, it’s silent now. The low buzz of the air conditioning and tick of the wall clock are the only sounds as you stare at the closed door in shock. Your gaze lands on the sunflowers laying on the main room table as you’re turning around. The bright yellow flower a large contrast to the cool blue feeling running through you right now. You sit back down on the couch and stare at the table quietly letting the tears you had been holding back roll down your cheeks. Leaving a hot salty trail down your face and neck. Your phone buzzes a few times as Shotaro and Eunseok talk in the groupchat, you pick the phone up ignoring their messages and click Sungchan’s contact image. After blocking his number, you throw your phone down on the couch and head to your bedroom.
Chapter 6
“I don’t even understand, it’s not like I said we had to get married or anything.” You cry to Eunseok as he sits on your bed with your head in his lap. “You barely knew him for a month. You shouldn’t have gotten so attached.” He adds lightly as he looks down at you. You let out a sigh and continue your pity party that he seems to take no part in. After a few more minutes of you quietly moping with your head on his legs, Eunseok speaks.
“I have a friend I think you’d like, I could give you his number. You don’t have to text him or anything, just have it.”
He grabs his phone from across the bed and starts scrolling through his contacts. You feel your own phone buzz from under you signifying that he’s sent you the contact. “Thanks, Eunseok.” You say without moving to check the notification yet. “Anything to make you stop soaking my jeans with your tears.” He adds with no actual annoyance in his tone.
After you wave Eunseok goodbye from your apartment window that night, watching to ensure he safely gets to his car, you open your phone to check the notification.
Of course he didn’t send you the name of this mystery friend, only the number. You don’t put much thought into it as you click the number and start typing. A distraction from Sungchan would be nice right now.
“Hey, this is Eunseok’s friend. He said we’d be good together and I’d be open to hang out.”
You send the message then get ready for bed without checking your phone. It’s nearly impossible to fall asleep that night. You know that you shouldn’t care this much since it was likely just a summer fling but the thought of Sungchan not telling you that from the start is just a huge punch in the gut. Would it have been different if you didn’t scare him off with the mention of next year? Sure, it was bound to happen at some point, but you could’ve prolonged it and had a proper goodbye before he just left your life like he did.
The sun is what wakes you up first, forgetting to close your curtains the night before due to your emotions distracting you the night before seeming to be a mistake now that the bright summer sun is shining in your bedroom window at 6am. With a groan you stretch your legs knowing you can lay there for another two hours without falling back asleep or get up to close the blinds which would wake you up too much to fall back asleep.
Grabbing your phone from the nightstand, you check the notifications and notice one from Eunseok’s friend.
“Hey!”
“He had told me about you. I’d love to hang out. Might be short notice but I’m free tomorrow if you are?”
Looking at the time the message was sent, you realize he meant today. You reply agreeing to meet him today, and get up to get ready.
By the time you’re ready and eating, it’s nearly 8am and Eunseok’s friend has replied to you. He suggests meeting at a museum nearby in an hour and you let him know you’ll be there. After finishing up your breakfast and doing the dishes, you put on your shoes.
The shoes are in the same place you left them when you had come home with Sungchan yesterday, beside where his shoes were placed neatly before he put them back on and left without a real goodbye.
When you arrive at the museum there’s a class of children standing at the entrance with colorful vests on being put into groups. You smile and wave at a few of them that stare while you walk through the crowd. As you get inside the museum you realize you don’t know what Eunseok’s friend looks like. You pull out your phone and send a message to him.
“Hey :)" I’m inside the lobby with the blue blouse on.”
You send hoping he’s already here and looking for you as well.
Your gaze falls from the desk worker to a familiar face standing near the desk looking around. It was one of Sungchan’s friends from the food truck at the festival he had taken you to. You didn’t want to make anything awkward because he likely didn’t know you and Sungchan had a falling out very recently. You wave politely and his eyes widen when he notices you. He starts walking towards you with his phone screen on display. You squint slightly trying to see what’s on the screen as he gets closer. Once your eyes focus your heart nearly stops. The screen is opened to his messages. The last message reading “Hey :)" I’m inside the lobby with the blue blouse on.”
You both stand awkwardly staring at each other for a moment before he bursts out laughing. “How do you know Eunseok?” He asks as he walks up to you. You’re beyond grateful that he isn’t bringing up Sungchan right now. “He’s been my best friend for as long as I can remember. Do you know Shotaro too?" You ask as you both start walking to the front desk. He shakes his head as you two get in line. “No, just Eunseok. We met in high school before I met Sohee.” He says while grabbing his wallet out of his pocket. So, this is Seunghan, you think to yourself as you both approach the ticket desk. Seunghan pays for two tickets, and you thank him and offer to buy you both drinks to which he politely declines saying you don’t owe him anything.
After walking around the museum for an hour it’s clear Seunghan doesn’t know much about art. You were never an artist yourself but you both found a way to appreciate each piece while enjoying each other’s company. Seunghan was easy to talk to, and the air felt comfortable around the two of you. “Can I be honest?” His voice brings your attention out of your own thoughts. “Of course.” You add. Seunghan presses his lips together in thought before he speaks. “I’m having a lot of fun, and I want to see you again after today, but I feel like we’d be better off as friends.” He looks nervous as he waits for your response. You laugh softly and nod. “I agree, I feel like we work better as friends anyways.” He visibly relaxes at your words and you both laugh as you head for the exit.
Seunghan drives you back to your apartment. He lets you play your music while he drives, both of you finding songs in common that you poorly duet. Once you arrive, Seunghan starts to get out of the car with you. “You don’t have to walk me up.” You say with a smile as he walks around the car to take your bag. “I know, I’m nosy and want to see your apartment.” He says as he closes the door behind you. You laugh and roll your eyes at him. “I should’ve known.”
As you both arrive at your apartment door, you see someone standing outside. A tall figure wearing a long coat checking his phone. As he hears footsteps he turns to face you.
“Sungchan?”
Chapter 7
Seunghan takes one look at Sungchan’s expression and tenses up completely. “I should probably go.” He says awkwardly before waving and quickly retreating down the hallway.
“What are you doing here?” You ask Sungchan with frustration in your tone. He has some nerve showing up after yesterday. The look on his face changes from guilt to anger as his eyes follow Seunghan’s departure. Once he looks at you again, he sighs. “I made a mistake.” He says quietly.
“Sungchan I don’t have time for this right now.” You dismiss him and start walking into your apartment. A sharp movement keeps the door open as you try to close it. Sungchan’s arm holds it open as he looks down at you. “Why were you out with Seunghan?” You try closing the door again and he keeps it open with little effort. Letting out a frustrated groan, you give up and walk into your apartment not caring if he stands at the door or comes in anymore. “It doesn’t matter, you said you didn’t want anything serious anyways.”
He stands in the doorway watching you take your shoes off and sighs. “I said it was a mistake I just got scared and I-” He cuts himself off and presses his face into his hands. Once your shoes are off you look up at him with an unimpressed look. “You’re right, you did make a mistake so you can’t get mad when I go out with Seung-”
Your eyes widen as you feel your back hit the door. Sungchan’s pinned you against it though he doesn’t look angry anymore, jealousy and pain flash across his face as his warm breath lightly touches your lips.
“Don’t talk about him.” He says while tilting your chin up and keeping you in place. “Let me kiss you.” A shaky breath fans across your mouth and his eyes look glassy. “Please let me kiss you just say I can kiss you, Please-”
You grab the collar of his shirt and crash your lips together, the urgency turning a kiss into only his mouth on yours as you pull him impossibly closer. The initial contact knocks the breath out of him, and he gasps against your mouth as you taste something salty between the two of you, realizing his tears had slid between your lips.
Sungchan’s large hands frantically find your waist and his grip is almost painful as he presses himself against you and slips his tongue into your mouth. You part your lips letting him take control now that he’s gained some composure and his frustration and guilt is replaced with lust.
“Sungchan...” You pull back catching your breath. “We should talk about this.”
“It can wait.” He says as he picks you up, his left arm hooked under your knee joint and his right holding your back as he walks to your bedroom. Once he places you on the bed he looks down at you and for a moment the lust and possessiveness in his eyes are replaced by something more tender and familiar. He climbs on top of you carefully and you wrap your arms around his neck as you look up at him.
Sungchan unwraps your arm and kisses the back of your hand, then each of your knuckles softly, one by one. “I’ve wanted this, not just this, you.” He says once he’s sure your hands have gotten enough attention. His lips hover over your neck as he speaks “May I...?” He says breathlessly against your skin. “Yes, please.” You say just as breathless as him.
His tongue darts out and licks his lips before he leaves a soft wet kiss over your pulse point. He trails gentle featherlight kisses down your neck before reaching your collarbones. He sucks on the skin gently as his hands find the hem of your top. “Are you sure?” He says after kissing over the pink mark he left on your collarbones. You nod and help him lift your top over your head.
...
The next morning you wake up and notice the bed is empty beside you. When you had fallen asleep, Sungchan was wrapped around you holding you close. You sigh and shake your head. Was this all he wanted?
“Morning.” Sungchan’s voice pulls you from your thoughts as he stands in your bedroom doorway in just his sweats holding a coffee cup that you’re sure only has tea in it. “Good morning.” You say back, relieved that he’s still here and looking especially beautiful with his morning hair. “Wanna talk about it?”
Chapter 8
Sungchan sits on the edge of the bed beside you while anxiously playing with his fingers.
“I just… I’ve never really expected anyone to stay part of my life. The only friend that ever stayed was Sohee.” He lets out a shaky breath. “Even my own parents left me.” Sungchan quietly looks down at the bed sheets, not expecting you to say anything. You take a moment to process the information before taking his hand in yours and speaking quietly.
“I understand that you’re afraid to get close to someone because they might leave, but doesn’t that make the relationship worth getting into? If you’re afraid of losing someone that means you really want them in your life.” He sighs and nods silently. “I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon that’s why I said you could meet Anton next year.”
“But you and Seunghan…”
“Seunghan and I had already decided we wanted to be friends. Nothing more.” You reassure him. His shoulders visibly relax, and he nods in understanding. “I’m sorry.” He looks at you for reassurance once again and you take his hands in yours.
“It’s okay just... maybe don’t run off like that again. That really sucked.” Sungchan squeezes your hand and kisses your fingertips one by one before nodding. “I won’t run off again, you’d have to chase me away.” He gives your hand one last squeeze before pulling you in for a tight hug, shifting so you’re now laying on his chest relishing in the steady melodic sound of his heartbeat.
Sungchan’s hand moves to your back, and he silently draws comforting shapes along the shape of your spine. For a moment you completely forget about him running off, the museum with Seunghan leaving your mind. Any burden that plagued you, completely slipping away as you get lost in the feeling of Sungchan’s fingertips on your back. The familiar smell of chamomile filling your senses and the calm thrum of his heartbeat just below your ear, drowning out any sounds from the broken fan in your room or the busy city just outside the sanctuary the two of you have created over the past month. Where you’ll hopefully spend the next year or even longer.
Or at least until Anton visits again.

…
Team UNO has been a tradition at the dorm every Friday since debut. It was always teams of two until Sanghyeok started inviting you over. It quickly adjusted to Woonhak and Taesan, You and Sanghyeok and the last team of Leehan, Sungho, and Jaehyun. The teams were perfect, and everyone was fine knowing Taesan and Woonhak would win due to their competitive nature (and cheating they always deny).
Until tonight.
“This isn’t fair, I want on her team this week.” Sungho points to you as you sit on the floor near the coffee table, splitting a drink with Sanghyeok. You laugh softly, tilting your head at Sungho. “What’s wrong with your team?” He stares at you as if the problem was obvious. “Leehan never lets me see the cards and Jaehyun grabs my butt under the table.”
Leehan looks offended from across the room and scoffs in mock offense before walking towards the couch to join Jaehyun who nods in agreement. “And?” He says teasingly, which causes everyone to laugh.
“Okay, okay, I’ll be on Sungho’s team tonight.” You push yourself off the floor, bending down to kiss the top of Sanghyeok’s head. He reaches up grabbing your wrist loosely, not letting you leave yet. It’s always easy to tell what Sanghyeok wants just by the way he looks at you. “I’ll sit close to you.” You lean down and kiss him softly, watching as a soft pink blossoms over his cheeks.
...
Sungho is terrible at UNO. Everyone is down to their last few cards, and he is confidently holding nine yellow cards that he managed to pick up the last six turns while the top card has remained blue. Every time he gets a power card, he uses it on the spot, leaving your team with only yellow numbers.
Sanghyeok, Leehan, and Jaehyun sit on the couch behind your spot on the floor. You’re sure at least one of them can see your cards, but there’s no amount of cheating they could do that canmake your team do worse than it already is.
“Uno.” Taesan says while putting down another blue card. Him and Woonhak won the last round by a landslide and you’re sure if you asked them to empty their pockets there would be at least five cards hidden.
“Yellow.” Sanghyeok puts down a color change card from behind you on the couch causing both of his team members to stare at him in a mix of shock and frustration. “Why yellow?!” Jaehyun looks on the verge of smacking him. Leehan shakes his head “You’re worse than Sungho.”
Sanghyeok looks at the yellow deck of cards in Sungho’s hands then to you with a proud smile and a wink.
...
After five rounds of UNO, Taesan and Woonhak won three rounds, you and Sungho won two.
Yes, everyone still lost to Taesan and Woonhak but, they have never won less than four of five rounds during game nights. Sanghyeok had sabotaged his new team the entire night to help you and Sungho (you’re sure it was just for you).
“Did you even try to win?” You approach Sanghyeok who is currently taking empty cans to the kitchen. He smiles brightly and places the cans down on the table, his hands rest on your waist comfortably.
“Not even once.”

PART ONE
Your bag gets caught on the retractable seat as you move to sit in the crowded stadium. The weather is nice enough and your seats are close to the field so there’s no need to complain other than the fact that you really didn’t want to be here.
Your friend Anton had been asking you to go to a soccer game with him for as long as you can remember. You never really cared for sports aside from when the Olympics happened and even then, you really didn’t care about the soccer events. After years of Anton asking, you decided that fine, you would go once so he would stop asking.
You had been to the stadium a few times for various concerts, but it was not this full of loud angry sports fans. You sit in your seat and offer a small smile to Anton, preparing to act excited until the game ends and you can go home. A taller man moves down the row to get into the seat beside you, he’s wearing a scarf around his head and a mask, but you swear he looks familiar.
“Sorry...” he says as he squeezes into his seat. You know that voice. Suddenly it hits you like a cold brick. That was Jung Sungchan, the wildly famous singer you had been a fan of since his first album. You look down at the small buff deer keychain hanging off your bag on the floor, terrified he’ll look down and recognize his own merchandise.
This was a situation you would only experience in your own thoughts while coming back from a long lecture or trying to fall asleep on a restless night. You had no idea what to do. Somehow, Anton noticed your current state of shock. “Hey... you alright?” He leans closer, looking you over as you nod stiffly. You nudge your head over a little bit with wide eyes as if silently screaming at him to look beside you.
When Anton notices the man sitting beside you his eyes widen slightly and he looks back at you before wiggling his eyebrows teasingly. Your foot comes down to stomp on his shoe which causes a yelp to leave him as he bends down to look at the damage that doesn’t actually exist.
...
The game consists of men kicking a ball around a large field and pretending to fall in hopes of the other team getting in trouble to your understanding. To be completely honest, you aren’t paying attention at all. You have never been so hyperaware of your own presence and the way you carry yourself before. Too anxious to move past the handsome man beside you to check yourself in the bathroom mirror inside the stadium and too embarrassed of your own existence to even pretend you know what’s happening.
After a while, there’s a short break which you believe is the intermission while the teams switch nets. The jumbotron camera person is walking around your section, and you can’t help but worry they’llcatch Sungchan on what you believe is his day off.
“Gonna go to the bathroom, watch my bag and don’t embarrass yourself in front of tall dark and handsome while I’m gone.” Anton winks at you teasingly as he leaves the row and heads back into the stadium. You sit quietly in your seat putting an earbud in and opening your phone, the arena was so loud and there were so many people yelling towards the teams and referee that you decide you need a moment of silence.
The universe (or at least the jumbotron camera operator) had other plans for you. You look up from your phone when you can feel eyes on you and notice you’re on the giant screen in the middle of the arena. Oh, but it wasn’t just you. It was you and Sungchan with a poorly animated heart frame with the giant words “KISS CAM” hovering over your heads.
You had experienced some seriously humbling situations in your life from accidentally sitting on an elderly person on the bus without looking, to your jeans ripping from crotch to knee as you sat down in a lecture, but this, this takes the cake.
You knew Sungchan couldn’t kiss you for obvious reasons involving his idol image and contracts with the company, but it didn’t make it any less humiliating when his eyes widened, and he shook his head making an “X” shape with his arms. Nobody in the arena seemed to recognize him that you could see and to everyone, it looked like you had just been rejected on a huge screen displayed to thousands of people. The camera operator seems to get the hint and walked to a different section to find their next victims.
The moment they’re gone, Sungchan turns to face you with an apologetic look. “I am so sorry I-” You shake your head quietly while trying to hide your humiliation. You point down to the deerkeychain on your bag, and he looks shocked when he sees it. “It’s fine, I get it.”
You half expect him to leave when he realizes you’re a fan of his. The fear of having pictures taken of him or being stalked was probably a constant struggle for him and other idols. Instead, he smiles up at you and reaches into his bag, pulling out a pen. Sungchan reaches down and signs the keychain across the deer's bicep then offers you an apologetic smile. You offer one back.
...
Anton comes back a few minutes later after the game had started again, completely oblivious to what had happened while he was gone. He takes his seat and puts his phone in the cupholder. “Good?” He asks with a tilt of his head. You nod “good.”
Sungchan however, was not good. The boy has looked anxious, and guilty since the jumbotron incident, and you didn’t know how else to reassure him it was okay. You didn’t want to try talking to him. Now that he knew you were a fan, you were sure he’d be weirded out with you trying to start conversations. It only takes a few minutes before he gets out of his seat, takes his bag, and leaves.
This situation was not your fault in the slightest, but you can’t help but feel terrible for what happened. Sungchan probably gets a day off once in a blue moon, and your very existence managed to wreck it. Now he needs to deal with being caught on the kiss cam on not only the stadium, but also television, mixed with the fear that you might have taken photos of him or started posting where he was and what he said or how he smells or-
“For you.” Sungchan’s voice cuts through your thoughts as he sits down beside you again. He’s holding a bag of popcorn and a drink out to you with a small, almost hopeful smile.
PART TWO
The game was coming to an end after what felt like eternity. Earlier, you had gratefully accepted the drink and snack from Sungchan and he seemed much more content with himself after he had given it to you. Since he was still an idol and you were not one for getting your hopes up, you didn’t speak after you thanked him for the snacks, hoping it would be enough.
After the game ends and the players leave the field, the arena starts clearing out. Thousands of people trying to get out of the small exits between sections. “We can wait it out since we’re not going anywhere after this.” Antons says, sitting back down waiting for the crowd to die down a bit. “Good idea.” You say before sitting back down and double checking everything is still in your bag.
It had gotten dark out and the sky was cloudy, you wondered if it would rain while you tried to get home with Anton. Neither of you have a car, so the train is your main form of transportation, but waiting in the rain all night is the last thing you want to do tonight.
“Sorry for eavesdropping, but you said you’re not doing anything after this?” Sungchan leans down a bit to reach eye level with you in your seat.
You probably stare at the man, dumbfounded for thirty seconds before you understand what he had said. You didn’t want to get ahead of yourself, he could just be asking to make small talk while waiting for the venue to clear out. “Oh- um... yeah...” You quickly shake your head. “Or no! Like no I-” You mentally slap yourself for sounding so stupid and clear your throat. “I meant no, I’m not doing anything after this.”
“Would you like to go get something to eat?” He smiles hopefully. “Something more than popcorn.” He adds with a charming laugh.
You take a deep breath as you wait for John Quiñones to come out with a camera crew. There’s no way that Jung Sungchan just asked you out.
“One moment...” You say quietly and turn to Anton who’s still sitting beside you with wide eyes. “Is it okay if you train home alone-”
“You could drop me off in an active warzone right now if it meant you got to leave with him, don’t ask stupid questions.” Anton cuts you off and grabs his bag, standing up quickly.
“Ugh, can’t believe my friend needs me to pick him up at this time, ridiculous...” Anton makes a point of saying his excuse loud enough for Sungchan to hear, and practically throws himself over the row of seats to leave you alone with him.
Sungchan looks a bit stunned at Anton’s abrupt departure. “I’m sorry is that your boyfriend?” He looks worried, like he may have overstepped. You shake your head so hard you feel it might roll off your shoulders. “No way, he’s just my friend.” You scrunch your nose in disgust at the thought of dating your best friend of so many years which makes Sungchan laugh.
...
“So, you know the city well, huh?” There’s a small cloud of breath while Sungchan speaks, the cold air making his cheeks and nose pink. “Yeah, I’ve lived here my whole life, I barely travel so I know it really well.” You sound a bit braggy, but it’s true. You never had family vacations growing up and as you got older, being a full-time student didn’t leave a lot of money for travel. You and Anton spent your free time taking the train around and finding hidden cafes and bars.
“Know any good burger places?” Sungchan laughs as he speaks, he knows he’s predictable, and you find it endearing. “I can think of one close to here actually. Maybe ten minutes away.”
He nearly beams at your response, his eyes sparkling under the streetlights and his cold cheeks matching his pink lips. “Lead the way.”
...
You lead Sungchan into the tiny burger shop on the corner of a quiet street. It’s almost empty and the food is a bit expensive, but you’re downtown so it’s expected. As you sit down, a waiter puts two menus on the table and asks for your drink orders. Sungchan orders a soda and you decide to have one too.
When the waiter leaves, you feel your phone buzz in your pocket. Anton texted you two minutes ago:
Antonnnn :)
r u alive?
idk if it was smart of me to leave u with a man u just met...
hello...?
You laugh at your friends' concern and hold the phone up to take a picture of Sungchan at the restaurant, so Anton knew not to worry. Sungchan notices the photo being taken, and his already big doe eyes widen further in curiosity. You offer a small smile “It’s so my friend knows I’m not dead.” You show him the photo you had sent. “I can delete it if you’d like.”
“No, that’s okay as long as your friend doesn’t share it.” He offers a reassuring smile while pulling his phone out. He takes a photo of you just as you had done to him. “For your friend to know you’re not dead?” You ask and laugh quietly.
“No, just for me.” He blushes and tucks the phone back into his pocket as if his words didn’t nearly stop your heart. “Oh...” You say with matching warm cheeks.
“The deluxe burger is the same as the cheeseburger, just more expensive.” Sungchan looks up as you show him the price difference in the menu. “You should do city tours.” He jokes.
“I’m free all night if you’re interested...”
“Perfect.”
PART THREE
After staying out until the clubs closed and you were on the brink of falling asleep, you and Sungchan decided to call it a night. “Do you have a ride home?” He says while his fingers gently brush yours and you walk towards the arena where you had started your adventure and city tour earlier. “No, I was gonna take the train home, but I can call a cab now since it’s so late.” Sungchan tilts his head in confusion before shaking it. “I’ll give you a ride home, yeah?”
...
Sungchan’s car is nice, as expected. The inside smells like leather and something fruity from the air freshener on the dashboard. He drives carefully since he’s not from this city and is carefully following the GPS to your house.
“You can use the aux if you want.” He speaks into the quietness of the car, turning to look at you for a moment. You nod and fish your phone out of your bag, ignoring the texts from Anton and plugging the aux into the bottom of it. The moment your phone connects, one of Sungchan’s songs starts playing through the speakers since you had been listening to it earlier.
He fails to fight back a laugh while you slam the volume dial in his car to zero and try to skip the song at the same time. His eyes crescent and his teeth are on full display, he’s still looking ahead at the road, but his amusement is obvious.
“That was cute...” He says through a laugh.
“Shut up...” You dismiss him and scroll through your playlist picking a song and turning the volume back up. The Story Of Another Us by 5 Seconds of Summer plays through the speaker. You had always loved boy bands, and this song was one of your favorites.
Sungchan bops his head to the beat while he drives. “I like this song, what’s it called?”
...
When Sungchan pulls into your driveway, two things hit you at once. The first being that you just spent a romantic evening with your celebrity crush, and the second being the fact that it came to an end. This was it. You won’t see him again.
Sungchan insists on walking you to your door even though it’s in view of his car. He hovers behind you while you reach for your keys. The air is cool and the night is quiet. It had been quiet earlier too, but it was comfortable and quiet. Now it’s sad and disappointing.
“I had a lot of fun tonight, thank you.” Sungchan sounds more nervous than he has all night. His fingers nervously play with his jacket zipper as he looks down at you. “I had a lot of fun too, you’re really funny.” You laugh softly to yourself. “And pretty.” Sungchan laughs with you. “You know I do have one regret though...”
You furrow your brows in confusion. What did you do wrong? He regrets going out tonight? Sungchan notices your nerves and gently intertwines your fingers. “I wish I had kissed you... at the game.”
Your eyes widen in shock, and you can feel your cheeks getting hot at his admission. “Y- you- wait really?” He laughs softly at your words, but you can see his cheeks reddening. “I do.” He looks at you with a flustered smile. “Can I...?” You nod immediately. He didn’t even need to finish that question.
Sungchan smiles brightly and slowly leans down, tilting his head and pressing his lips against yours. It’s a quick lingering kiss but something you take a mental note to never forget. The softness of his lips and the gentle care in the way he kisses is something you want to always remember. When he pulls back, he’s smiling down at you. “I know I live a few cities over, but I was wondering if maybe youwanted to keep in touch? We could go on another date. One during the day.” The way he speaks is hopeful, but you are not.
You know what can happen to idols if they’re caught dating. You’ve seen them get online and in person hate, trucks sent to their company, sometimes even being fired from their company. You couldn’t be the reason that this sweet, caring boy lost his dream and his job. You wouldn’t be the reason that Sungchan loses everything.
You take a quiet step back towards your door. Your nerves are shot, and you feel like you’re sacrificing your happiness for Sungchan. Selfless, but so incredibly painful.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea Sungchan...” You feel a lump in your throat and your voice breaks on the last word. “Thank you for everything, you’re a really kind man and I really loved tonight.” Sungchan’s smile fades, there’s a quiet disappointment and acceptance on his features as he nods. “Thank you for showing me around the city. I won’t forget tonight.” He says quietly, his gaze moves from you to the cold walkway under his shoes.
“Goodnight Sungchan.”
“Goodnight.”
PART FOUR
The next few days are slow and agonizing. Lectures seem to drag on longer than usual, the train home is always late now, and you cannot stop thinking about ruining your chances with Jung Sungchan.
He had been such a gentleman, he didn’t push to stay, he just walked you to your door and let you turn him down before heading home. You realized a few hours after he pulled out of your driveway that you had left your brown scarf in his car, it had been a gift from Anton and now it was gone. Just like Sungchan was.
You would likely never see either of them again.
...
“Stop complaining you did it to yourself...” Anton says over the loud music playing in the trendy bar he insisted on visiting with you. He had expected a huge update about hooking up with Sungchan or moving back to Seoul with him. Never in a million years would he have thought you rejected him and asked him to leave.
“I did it because I care stop making me feel worse!” You groan and drink from your overly sweet beverage. “I’m sad about it and I’ll probably never get over it, but I still don’t regret it. We both know he would have lost his job, and I probably would have been the most hated person on the planet if I agreed to date him.” Anton nods and watches you carefully. “You’re more mature than me. If that had been Ningning-”
“Shut up.” You cut him off and slide his drink towards him, which he gladly accepts. He looks down at the drink on the table after nearly downing it before speaking. “I hope it’s alright that I told Wonbin.” Your eyes widen and you feel like slapping him in the middle of a bar full of people barely old enough to drink. “Anton, I rejected Sungchan so nobody would know and you went and told Wonbin?! What is wrong with you?!” He sighs and looks at you with a frown that almost makes you forgive him. Almost.
“He’s not gonna tell anyone, who would he have told? Me? And who would I have told? You. It’s fine...” You run your hands through your hair and suddenly the music seems too loud, and the margarita seems too sweet, and you don’t want to be here anymore. “Anton... you only told him because you have a big crush on him and wanted to seem interesting.” Your voice is calm and a matter of fact. Anton had never said he liked Wonbin that way, he had never actually said he liked boys that way but, you can put two and two together even without asking.
“Shut up I do not.” He rolls his eyes and waves to the waiter for another drink.
...
You spend the night at Anton’s apartment, he crashes nearly the minute you get back on the makeshift bed beside his own. He may have annoyed you at times, but he was a gentleman and would never let you take the floor even if it meant sacrificing his bed.
You lay on Anton’s large mattress in the dark room with the soft sound of him snoring below and scroll through your phone trying to distract yourself from what had been plaguing your mind. You open Instagram and see your friends out enjoying their lives, going to concerts, travelling, moving away from this small city while you and Anton stay in place watching from afar.
Then you see it.
A new post from JSUNGCHAN. It’s a simple photo, nothing that stood out from his usual posts. Nobody would have noticed anything different if you weren’t looking at your brown scarf around his neck. He’s posing for the picture in the local airport, a usual idol post that looks like it would make a delusional lockscreen of him being your boyfriend as he looks back at the camera with a warm closed mouth smile.
God, he looks so pretty, his eyes are so big and brown, his lips pink and plump. You remember what they felt like on yours, soft and puffy and-
No.
You close Instagram and put your phone on the nightstand before looking up at the ceiling and praying sleep would come soon. The soft hum of the heater and Anton’s snoring is not helping lull you into slumber but keeping you awake instead. You wonder if you should comment on the post “hey it’s me, the one you took on a romantic date after the soccer game and kissed at my front door. I regret rejecting you, please come find me again. Xoxo.” The idea is ridiculous, and you know you would likely be flagged by the company he works for and probably turned into a mass joke about parasocial relationships online.
You wonder if you could use the excuse of needing the scarf back to get in contact with him. Say it was a gift from a late relative or an heirloom. Drastically exaggerate the importance of the fabric so he would have to return it to you. You’re not even sure how you would go about doing that since he has no business contact and you can’t exactly fly to South Korea and find him.
One thing you’re sure of is that it wasn’t just a random night for him. He wouldn’t have kept the scarf and posted wearing it, knowing you would see if he didn’t care. You might never see him again, but at least you were given a form of closure.
As sleep takes over, your mind is consumed by the overbearing thought of Jung Sungchan, his gentle nature, and his beautiful, pink, puffy lips.
PART FIVE
“Is that the scarf I gave you?” Antons pokes your cheek to wake you up. You’re sleepy and ticked off that he woke you up so early. “Wh- how did you see that you don’t even follow him?” The sun is bright as you put your hand up to shield your eyes and squint. “I started following him after he kissed my best friend... obviously.” He holds the post up to your face once more, the bright screen overwhelming as you stare at the picture of Sungchan at the airport.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s your scarf, okay? I didn’t mean to leave it in his car.” You gently push Anton’s hand with the phone away from your face as you let your eyes adjust to the brightness and the heaviness of sleep leave your limbs.
“I’m not mad that you left it in his car, I’m showing you because he wouldn’t be wearing it if he wasn’t thinking about you.” Anton looks so happy about the revelation that you almost feel bad telling him to drop it. “Anton, it doesn’t matter. I can’t go back in time to change things, and I can’t fly to Seoul to find him. It was a mistake and it’s over now.” He frowns as you run your hands over your face while waking up properly.
“But-”
“No buts. I can’t go back now.”
...
You play the scene in your head over again until you feel like pulling your hair out. The way Sungchan looked so hopeful until you had rejected him. The man you had spent years listening to, watching perform, charming hosts on late night shows. He was real and in front of you at your own home, hoping to take you on an actual date, and you said no.
To say you hadn’t sent him a pathetic DM would be a complete lie. It was late and you were desperate. It was inevitable and just as embarrassing as you thought it would be. Of course, there was no reply.
“Hey... it’s me. You still have the scarf I left in your car. I don’t need it back I just saw you posted with it.”
Pathetic. You sounded like a parasocial loser, and you’re almost 100% sure his team runs his Instagram account anyways. You wouldn’t be surprised if you opened the app and saw “JSUNGCHAN has blocked you.”
You open Spotify in hopes of drowning out the sound of your own thoughts, clicking on a random playlist and shuffling it. You notice a new account called “BAMBI” followed you in the past few days. The chances of it being Sungchan were slim. How would he even find you unless he had gone through your Instagram bio?
The account is relatively new or at least didn’t have many playlists. You click the most recent playlist and find a variety of Korean and English songs, none of them seemed too familiar until the last one. Story of Another us by 5 Seconds of Summer was the most recent song added to the playlist.
Without thinking, you follow the profile and send it a song to open a chat with them. You’re not completely sure if it’s Sungchan but you’ve done more embarrassing things in your life than shoot your shot with a random Spotify profile. You type one message after the song you sent.
“Sungchan...?”
Now you wait.
PART SIX
You’re losing your mind. At first, it was easy to be in denial and say you don’t regret your decision, you wouldn’t want to ruin Sungchan’s career and image, but now, you feel like throwing your phone at the wall. It has been three days since you sent that pathetic Spotify message to a random account. You never received a response and as much as you know there’s almost no chance of ever getting one, you can’t help but hold onto the ‘almost.’
Anton and Wonbin are sprawled out on your couch sharing snacks. Wonbin’s legs are thrown over Anton’s lap while Anton rests his elbows on them to look at his phone. “Maybe he has like a company PO box or something...? You could send him a letter like it’s the olden days.” Wonbin says while chewing some sort of fruit snack. The idea isn’t terrible, but you can’t expect Sungchan to actually look through all of the letters sent to him. Even if yours was found you would most likely be seen as a sasaeng and the letter would be thrown out.
“Maybe...” You stare at Sungchan’s Instagram profile for the millionth time before sighing and dropping your phone on the floor below you. Wonbin and Anton both look up at you, taking in your slouched form on the chair near the TV. They both look at each other as if silently communicating something you don’t understand before Anton speaks. “Hey, at least we have our concert next week.”
You had completely forgotten about the 5 Second of Summer concert coming up. You and Anton had bought tickets ages ago, and it must have slipped your mind at some point. You were beyond excited for months but somewhere between getting kissed by your celebrity crush and rejecting him at your doorstep, the excitement had dulled.
“You forgot, didn’t you?” Anton’s voice brings your thoughts back to the room you were currently sitting in. “Yeah... Sorry.” You do feel guilty about forgetting, but a part of you knows Anton understands why you did. “It’s fine, Wonbin’s coming too.” Wonbin offers a small smile and a brief thumbs up as you stare between the two of them. “Oh.” Is all that comes out of your mouth. You can’t help but wonder if the two of them gottogether at some point over the past few days or weeks without you noticing. It didn’t seem suspicious how they were sitting together in a domestic half-cuddle and sharing food until right now.
“Am I gonna be third wheeling?”
“No-”
“-Yes.”
They both speak at the same time, Anton confirming your question while Wonbin denies it. You feel bad for even asking when you realize you had caused confusion between the two of them, their eyes darting between each other and you. “I’m... heading out...” You offer an awkward smile while lifting yourself from the chair and heading towards the door. “I’ll be back in a bit.” Before they can ask where you’re going, you’re out the door in a jacket that won’t be warm enough if you stay out any longer than an hour. If the two of them need some alone time to discuss what even the blind could see is happening between them, you’re happy to lend them your apartment. At least someone has a chance at romance between you and Anton.
...
You find yourself at a burger shop a few blocks away from your apartment, the same restaurant you visited with Sungchan, just not the same location. You weren’t hungry when you arrived, but it would be rude to stay inside without ordering anything.
Picking at your fries, you scroll through Spotify looking for a setlist playlist for the upcoming concert. You hadn’t realized you barely knew their new album, and it’s nice to have a distraction. As the songs play, you add your favorites to your playlist and try to memorize some of the lyrics.
Your thumb swipes at the top of the screen to scroll at the same time a notification pops up, the account responded. The message opens automatically, and you stare at it for the entirety of a song.
“lol who r u?”
Would Sungchan text like that? Would he even use messages on Spotify? Does anyone? Without wanting the user to go M.I.A. again, you quickly type a response.
“Is this Sungchan...?”
The fries in front of you are getting cold now, the soda is going flat while you look like an insane person, eyes boring into your phone.
Two more songs play to a full before you give up again, putting the phone face down on the table and pressing your face into your hands, elbows resting on the ketchup coated wood. You hear footsteps approaching from behind and let out a sigh before looking up. The waiter offers a sympathetic smile and holds out a cupcake. “They didn’t show up, did they?”
You laugh softly and shake your head as the boy sits down at the table. He has soft looking brown hair and kind eyes, he almost resembles an otter. “I wish it was just being stood up.” You say as you accept the cupcake with a small bow of your head, a silent thank you. “What happened? If you don’t mind me asking.” He seems invested rather than nosy. Talking to a stranger about this might be just what you need to realize how ridiculous you’re being.
“It’s a long story.” You warn him before delving into the whole ‘My celebrity crush wanted me and I said no’ thing. He nods and stands up walking towards the door before switching the OPEN sign to say CLOSED. “I’m the manager and nobody else is on shift, so it’s fine.” He says before locking the door. You laugh softly as he approaches the table again. “Thanks...” You look for a nametag on his apron.
“Shotaro.” He smiles.
“Thanks, Shotaro.”
PART SEVEN
Shotaro is a very kind person, he has a way of making your unfortunate circumstances seem manageable. Obviously, he couldn’t come up with a scenario, but that wasn’t what you were asking for. Just someone to listen.
“Thanks again Shotaro, I would have lost my mind tonight if it wasn't for you.” You thank him as he holds the door for you to leave the restaurant. You both make your way out of the small building into the evening air. “Don’t worry about it, I’d rather hang out with a really cool person than wipe tables all night.” He looks around the street noticing no cars other than his own. “Do you need a ride home?”
You shake your head. “I live just down the street but thank you.” With that, Shotaro says his goodbyes, offering you a free meal anytime he’s working and his number to hang out again. You’re grateful you met the boy tonight. He lightened the mood and took your mind off Sungchan for a few hours. You also got a free meal out of it, so no harm was done.
...
The moment you open your apartment door, Anton and Wonbin scramble off each other on your couch. Quickly pulling apart as if they had been caught doing something other than cuddling. You groan and look at them unimpressed. “You both have your own places, did you really need to make out on my couch?”
Anton huffs and avoids eye contact before mumbling in a grumpy tone. “We weren’t making out...” You roll your eyes but it’s more amused than irritated. “Both of you, out. I know you’d rather be alone being gross right now anyways.” Without arguing, they get off the couch, fixing their clothes and hair as they make their way to the door. “I’ll see you at the concert next week?” Wonbin asks with an endearing head tilt. “Of course, I’ll see you there.” You look past him at Anton, flicking his head “You too.”
The apartment is empty again. Nothing but string lights, silence, and too much time to think.
...
You get comfortable in a pair of sleep shorts and a loose shirt, slipping into bed and pulling your laptop out. Scrolling through websites and Pinterest trying to piece together an outfit for the concert. Story of AnotherUs plays through the small speakers as you look for something that doesn’t scream ‘put me on the jumbotron.’
There’s an excitement in your bones, you deserved a night out with music, Anton (and Wonbin), and flashy clothes. There would always be a longing for the tall bashful man you met in the same arena weeks prior, but at least you could replace the memories of that place with something fun. Something without Jung Sungchan.
You would move on, even if it meant forcing it. Accepting the loss over time rather than dwelling on what could have been if you had put yourself first that night. The thought of what could have been will always sit in the back of your mind, a long-distance relationship? Would he have moved to stay here with you? Let you live in South Korea with him? Maybe he would write songs about you. Would the fans wonder who the lyrics were about or assume it was for them?
The song ends. You close your laptop and turn the light off before falling asleep.
PART EIGHT
“I’m gonna tell security you have a knife in your bag if you keep being gross and in love.”
Anton rolls his eyes at your remark, but let’s go of Wonbin’s hand anyways. “What? Are you mad I didn’t let my man get away like some people?” His voice is teasing but the words still sting due to how real they were. The three of you get off the train and start walking the short distance to the venue. You were excited about the concert, but the last time you had been in this arena was the kiss cam incident that hasn’t seemed to leave your mind since.
“Everyone has their tickets, mini fans, and ID?” Wonbin’s voice is soft but calculated as he looks through his bag mentally checking off his and Anton’s items. “I have everything. Anton is the one you need to worry about.” Wonbin laughs at your words and tilts his bag towards you, showing you how full it is. “Why do you think I have all of his stuff in my bag?”
“Wait, there’s only one ticket in there...” You put on a dramatic voice to scare Wonbin, which works well if the wide-eyed terror is anything to go by. “It was a joke, there’s two...” Anton laughs as Wonbin panicked and triple checked for the tickets in his small clear bag.
“The line to get in on the north side of the venue is the shortest, I just checked twitter.” Wonbin leads the three of you around the arena. The weather was nicer than any of you had planned for, your jeans were starting to feel too hot, and you couldn’t wait to get into the venue.
...
Wonbin and Anton had left you at your seats with the bags and merch while they went to get snacks and use the restroom. The view was pretty good, and the opener was a smaller band with a similar sound to the main act. You find yourself swaying to the music while scrolling on your phone.
“Hey!” A familiar voice interrupts your scrolling. You look up and see the kind burger shop employee with glittery star makeup and a band t-shirt on. “Shotaro! How are you?” You walk into the aisle and give him a tight hug, which he returns with enthusiasm. “I’m great! My friend works with the touring agency and got us floor seats. Is this where you’re sitting?” He points to the row behind you where you had been guarding the merch and Wonbin’s bag full of ‘essentials.’
“Yeah, I originally had upper bowl, but my friend's boyfriend got last minute tickets and upgraded our seats so we could sit together.” Shotaro’s eyes widen in excitement as you mention being so close to the floor. “So, you’re two rows from the floor barricade? What seats?” You tilt your head with an awkward laugh as he seems insistent on getting the exact seat numbers. “I think 23, 24, and 25. Why?” He shrugs but his excitement doesn’t fade. “Just curious if I could see you during the show, I’ll come say hi again after it’s over and maybe I can meet your friends.” You agree to his offer before he rushes back down the aisle to his friend in the pit.
“Hey! We got drinks!” Anton and Wonbin walk down the stairs to your seats holding drinks, holding a tote bag that looks like it’s from the merch stand. “Thanks, it’s hot in here I need something cold.” Wonbin hands you a beverage which you quickly realize is alcoholic.
...
From the moment the lights went down until the last song, you and Anton were screaming and dancing. Wonbin was a newer fan and hadn’t known as many of the songs on the setlist, but you both did your best to include him. It always felt surreal being at a concert, and you rarely got tickets this close to the stage. The pit blocked a partial view of the lead singer, but you could clearly see the other members even if you weren’t paying too much attention.
When the band left but the lights didn’t turn back on, you knew there would be an encore. The crowd started chanting “encore, encore, encore” which you joined quickly.
The lead singer, Luke, walks back onto the stage. The rest of the band is still backstage somewhere, and only one spotlight is on.
“I heard you all want an encore?” He speaks into the mic, the echo is drowned out by the sound of everyone in the audience cheering loudly. “Well, I can do that for you, but first I have a favor to ask. Can you do me a favor?” You cheer along with the crowd, ready to cheer extra loud, jump, or do whatever audience project they had planned.
Luke speaks lowly into the mic, the words causing your heart to momentarily stop. You stand frozen in place, but you can feel Anton’s eyes boring into the side of your head.
“Is anyone here missing a brown scarf...?”
The crowd looks confused aside from a few fans acting like it was some sort of fandom joke you would only know if you had been a fan since 2014.
Luke continues speaking to the wildly confused crowd. “I have a friend that visited this city a little while ago and met someone. If this sounds familiar and you’re missing a brown scarf, now is the time to come get it.” He takes a minute and presses his hand to his ear as if hearing something in his earpiece before speaking again. “He says no pressure if you don’t want it to be publicly returned.”
“My friend! It’s my friend’s scarf! Here!” Anton shouts beside you, his voice cutting through the ringing in your ears. The lead singer looks at your section after hearing the shouting and laughs softly. “Row two, seats twenty-three, twenty-four, and twenty-five?” Anton shouts back “Yes! It’s my friend's scarf!” You’re sure Luke Hemmings has no idea what Anton is saying, but the sound must be enough of a response because seconds later, the lights turn off.
You feel a hand on your shoulder followed by Shotaro’s voice. “Come on...” He gently pulls your arm and guides you through the dark venue to the lobby. Everyone in the audience is beyond confused, and the sound of chatter and questions fills the venue. Eventually, you reach the arena lobby with Shotaro still gently guiding you.
Sungchan is standing near the concession with your brown scarf and a bouquet of flowers. He’s dressed up nicely and looks almost bashful as he smiles at you.
“How...?” Your voice is barely audible as you speak.
To who? You’re not sure.
Shotaro speaks cheerfully “my friend works for the same touring company as Sungchan.”
Your feet feel bolted to the floor as you stare at the tall boy in front of you. He looks more nervous than you do as he approaches you slowly.
“Listen... You can just take your scarf back and never talk to me again, but I needed to see you again and tell you properly.” He places the scarf over your shoulders carefully before taking a deep breath and continuing. “I can’t stop thinking about you. I found your Instagram but knew I couldn't publicly follow you and you didn’t accept my request on the burner account. I tried giving you signs by posting the songs from your playlist and wearing your scarf, but I want to stop being cryptic and just tell you. I really regret leaving that night and I would like to ask for another chance...? Not just a rushed burger shop date but a real date somewhere nice where I can learn more about you and we can maybe get closer.”
You stare at him in shock before speaking quietly.
“Can I kiss you?”
Sungchan looks like a deer caught in the headlights for a moment before he nods quickly. “Y- yes please-” You reach up to pull him down by the front of his shirt, kissing him softly but pouring weeks of emotion into it. His hand cradles the back of your head, and you feel teeth against your lips as he fails to fight back a smile.
When you pull back and rest your forehead against Sungchan’s, you let out a breathy relieved laugh. “I tried to message you on Spotify...” Sungchan laughs at your words and kisses the corner of your lips. “Glad to know I wasn’t the only desperate one.” He runs his thumb over your cheek with an excited smile on his face. “There’s one more surprise...”
...
You return to your seat in row two, this time, with Sungchan.
Wonbin and Anton have huge grins on their faces and move to give you both room to stand in the tight row. The lights are on the stage again, and the band walks out to pick up their instruments. The lead singer once again takes the mic and speaks into it.
“We usually do the same encore every show, but we’d like to dedicate this song to this beautiful city.”
You feel Sungchan’s hand find yours, squeezing it gently as he looks down at you with a bright, knowing smile. The band starts playing the melody to a familiar song. The bass player speaks into his mic...
“This one’s called Story Of Another Us.”

A shiver ran through your body as the cool air from the clothing boutique settled on your skin. The goosebumps on your arms don’t go unnoticed by your boyfriend. Jungkook’s hand pulls out of yours, the familiar warmth of his tattooed knuckles leaves your grasp. Before you can complain, he’s slipping his jacket off. The smooth ink-stained skin of his right arm no longer covered by the expensive black leather sleeve.
“I have other ways to warm you up...” Jungkook leans down to drape the jacket over your shoulders while speaking quietly against the shell of your ear. His voice is lacking the usual confidence and bold tone he carries around other people. It’s a breathless soft sound, enough to make you dizzy.
If you weren’t in public, you’re sure he’d be whining and tugging at the hem of your shirt by now. Luckily, he knew how to behave.
Deciding to be mean, you grab a lacy black top that would leave little to the imagination before heading to the dressing room. “Can you hold my bag baby?” Jungkook’s eyes widen as he looks at the skimpy fabric in your hand before reaching to hold your bag like the good boyfriend he is. “Don’t you need help adjusting the straps and lace?” His wide eyes are void of anything other than need, pupils fully swallowing irises.
“No, you can wait here for me, yeah?” You kiss his cheek softly before heading into the change room. The top was difficult to get on, the lace kept getting caught in the straps and folding under the hem, and the size was too small. You quietly peek your head out looking for your boyfriend who’s patiently waiting outside as if he was afraid to do anything without you.
“Can you get me a size up...?” The sound of your voice causes his head to perk up, big eyes finding yours in an instant. The lost puppy look on Jungkook’s face slipped for a moment, his intention became more than obvious as he approached the curtain. “I’m sure it’ll fit, just let me help you adjust it.” He walks into the change room and closes the curtain behind him before messily leaning into you. The lace top is momentarily forgotten as the warm metal from between his lips is nearly plunged into your mouth, hot and wet.
“Jungkook we’re in public!” You whisper-shout at him while pushing him off. He stumbles back a step, nearly hitting the small changeroom wall as he looks at you with parted lips and flushed cheeks. His eyes are unfocused and the ring in his lip is coated with saliva – yours or his you’re unsure of. You can see the sliver of skin where his tank top had ridden up over his Calvin Kleins, an obvious strain in his sweats.
Jungkook leans forward bowing down to your height with unfocused glazed over eyes. “P- please... I need you...” He leans forward, panting into your neck and pulling your hips towards his. “Not here. Can’t you wait until we get home?” You comb your fingers through his black hair while he kisses and sucks on the skin of your neck, small whimpers leaving him after every taste. “No, I need you here, now. Please.”
Your grip in his hair tightens enough to pull him away from your skin. He looks gone, cheeks flushed, pupils blown, saliva on his swollen lips. “You need to wait. We can leave right now but you need to wait until we’re home.” He lets out a desperate whimper but agrees, trying to smooth out his hair and catch his breath.
You’re sure he wouldn’t be able to make it to the car.
very strong situationship sungchan fighting creeps for you in the club and then going home w you to spend the night (his gym pics and formal suit looks bring out the freak in me )
this took forever anon i’m so sorry 😭🙏 it also might suck because i've never written sungchan as anything other than an endearing loser so i hope it’s okay ‼️
warnings: small fight (physical), club/drinking/alcohol, toxic relationship
...
The club lights were blinding. The colorful strobes and music almost distracted you from the sight of two girls all over Sungchan.
Almost.
You’re not sure if you have the right to be upset or jealous since neither of you have put labels on anything yet. You’ve had a few talking stages and situationships, even friends with benefits before, but Sungchan was different.
The boy had been preaching no strings attached since day one, but you could see the anger and jealousy flash across his face any time someone else’s eyes lingered on you for too long. His idea of no strings attached meant he could sleep around but you were his and his only.
Sungchan flashes his charming smile at one of the girls as she pulls his wrists towards her hips. He happily rests his hands over the exposed skin. The sight irritates you more than you’d like to admit, averting your gaze to the bar you realize the same man that had been eyeing you earlier was still watching you. His gaze focused on the way your tight clothes land on your body.
Offering an awkward smile, you start walking towards Sungchan. He might be a bit toxic, but he would never hesitate to help you in an uncomfortable situation like this. As you walk, the man starts following you from a distance. Likely hoping you’d go alone to the bathroom or outside.
As you reach the spot you had seen Sungchan earlier, you realize he must have left with one of the girls. He was nowhere to be seen and the man frombefore was approaching quickly. Before you can make a run for it, the man grabs your wrist.
“Hello Gorgeous...” His smile is sinister and he smells of cigarettes and alcohol. “I’m here with someone.” You attempt to pull your wrist free withoutoffending the man too much for your own safety. “I didn’t see you with anyone.” His grip tightens.
“Leave her alone.” A strong hand lands on the man's shoulder, sending him stumbling backwards with ease. “Who are you?” The man spits at Sungchanthrough a drunken slur. “I said leave her alone.” The man attempts a messy swing at Sungchan before a sharp first meets his nose. The hit sends him tumbling to the floor immediately. The scene was hard to watch, the man falling after one hit, you’re not sure if it was the amount of alcohol in his system or if Sungchan had that strong of a swing, but you were grateful regardless.
...
“Let’s go.” Sungchan’s grip on your arm is tight as you walk down the cold street in his jacket. “Stop dragging me acting like you’re storming out of there and you didn’t get us both kicked out.” You stumble on the sidewalk trying to keep up with him. The shoes you had chosen for tonight were for sitting at the bar and a bit of dancing, not practically running to keep up with Sungchan’s long legs.
“Just...” He sighs and stops in his place looking down at you. You look up at him, the streetlights casting a soft glow over his usually sharp features. “Just get on my back.” He doesn’t ask, knowing you would argue. “Sungchan no, it’s late and you’ve been drinking and-”
“You live like five minutes away, get on my back.”
“Sungchan no-” Before you can finish your argument, your feet are lifted off the ground, and you’re thrown over his broad shoulder. His hand restingin a convenient place to keep your dress from flashing anyone on the street. Though you’re sure his hand didn’t find its way there just for your modesty.
“Fine...” You sigh in defeat, slumping over his shoulder, letting him carry you for the short walk back to your apartment. Despite his habits with other girls at the club, he always seemed to end up in your bed at the end of the night.

...
Sungchan had been busy with schedules for nearly two weeks. The only contact with him had been brief texts and a few late-night calls. You were beginning to feel like the fans got more of him than you did, but that’s what comes with dating an idol.
Luckily, he was on his way home, a six-hour flight where he had been sending photos to fans on bubble. When you saw the pictures of him in Anton’s glasses, you decided to text him about it. He looked charmingly handsome, but you would never admit it to him, and he knew that.
...
“I’m home!” You can hear the bright, familiar voice of your boyfriend as the apartment door unlocks. Blinking awake from the couch, your eyes focus on Sungchan in the doorway, putting his travel bag down and taking his shoes off. He was still wearing the outfit from the photos he had posted, a black t-shirt with a gray shirt underneath and simple baggy jeans.
“Are you still wearing Anton’s glasses?” Your voice is more of a sleepy mumble as you walk to the door to greet him. Sungchan smiles proudly and nods. “Yes, I am.” Before you can tease him, he leans down, wrapping a hand loosely around your lower back, and kisses you. When he pulls back, his forehead rests against yours. “Missed you.”
You smile at him teasingly. “Missed you too, dork.” Sungchan scoffs like he’s been scandalized “dork?! I’m wearing these because you like them.” He scrunches his nose as you push them up with your index finger. “Well, I do like them but you’re still a dork.” “Am I a hot dork...? He wraps his other arm around you and pulls you flush against him, swaying you gently in the dimly lit doorway. “I’d have to think about it.”
He hums and playfully bites his bottom lip. “I wonder how long we’d have to kiss for these to fog up.” Sungchan leans down, kissing the tip of your nose and both of your (now very hot) cheeks. You lightly hit his shoulder “Sungchan!” He laughs and kisses the corner of your lips, moving to your jawline. “You don’t wanna find out...?”
“Maybe I do.” You tilt your head back giving him better access to your neck, he leaves a few quick pecks on the skin before pulling back. “We should find out in the bedroom.” He laughs with pink cheeks and crescent moon eyes. “Agreed.”
Poor Anton.
