imagine you're hirano. you and your boyfriend got your act together months ago. your flashy sadboy classmate that you've had a really weird charged friendship with since first year is down diabolically bad for one of your juniors, who's a really good kid even if he won't stop talking about how badly he wants your roommate to rail you. Okay. Sure. Whatever. Keep an eye on them so he doesn't force himself on your junior, but otherwise it's not your business. Even if your friend acts insane and sappy now that he's fallen in love with someone. Your junior makes him wait months to answer his confession, but To Your Horror said weird friend has the same endless patience your boyfriend did-- maybe even more-- and dutifully waits for a response like a dog waiting for its owner to come home. Whatever. He's always been weird. Not your problem. At least he's happy now.

What you don't expect is that said junior is like. Equally insane. And not in the way you thought he might be, where he brings up gay porn all the time. He's reciprocating your friend's weird flirts now. He's worried about your friend all the time. You loan your friend your phone in an apparent time of crisis because they still haven't swapped numbers somehow and all you hear him say is "hey baby... I like you for more than your face... hangs up". Which apparently works. And they talk about each other all the fucking time. Before They Even Get Together. And now that they Are Together your only saving grace is that you and your friend are about to graduate and put enough physical distance between you all that you won't be forced to witness them gnawing on each other all the time. And as the final nail in the coffin, when you do finally ask why the hell they never swapped numbers until they got together, your junior pulls this.

This is how I know Hirano's defining trait is kindness, by the way. Not through his relationship with Kagi. But because if I had to deal with this shit on a regular basis I'd rip my hair out until I go bald. #balduke.

BEFORE I GO TO BED KIRI was sitting on this. what do you feel about kuresawa and hirano

[ask me about any two ssmy charas and i'll give my thoughts on their dynamic, real or imagined]

well what I feel is HAPPY BIRTHDAY KURESAWA!!! ahem. apart from that though my kinda-concise thoughts… touched on this when discussing kuresawa-miyano and kuresawa-tashiro stuffs but I think kuresawa really looks up to him. hirano’s a model student and also someone who’s like… he’s super studious but also carves out his own path? look at how stubbornly he keeps his hair dyed. how diligently he studies. and it’s hirano who inspired kuresawa to get piercings! they’ve got totally different senses of fashion lol

I wouldn’t say they’re good friends bc honestly. I think kuresawa’s such an intense and yet mild guy that he doesn’t make many of them. like, I don’t see him reaching out. still, they’ve clearly got a shared love for astronomy—hirano's not even in the astronomy club, but he's hung out there before and even went to visit their exhibit after graduating, so I think they’d have fun talking about that stuff together. they'd get along well since they're both polite people, honestly. like, they’d say they’re not super close, and then spend an hour discussing light pollution. because that’s just what they do. would be neat if kuresawa ended up at hirano’s college again… I don’t think hirano would Reach Out but I think he’d be happy to give him advice on studying and stuff.

I also vote kuresawa as “guy who’d be a really good person to learn about the hirano-kagiura relationship” because like… again, hirano and him are dedicated in a really similar way. I think he’d make good conversation about it bc he seems like he’d be… normal about it? like hanzawa and sasaki, frankly, have their own personal hangups to deal with. I think kuresawa and hirano would just chill—and it’d be interesting for kuresawa to understand his “cool and reliable” senpai in a new way, yknow? and i think it's nice that he complimented hirano's earrings. he did it without knowing, but i think he'd get why that compliment felt meaningful. and he’d do all of this without making it a big deal
