This crisis I am having over Ryan Gosling and his Extended Universe goes so much deeper than I think anyone could realize.
I went. 22 years. 22 YEARS not finding this man attractive. The Notebook came and went, all the girls my age fawning over him. I was staunchly anti-chick-flick and not liking Ryan Gosling became a personal point of pride, almost. Other movies he was in over the years never really interested me. I think I may have watched The Nice Guys when it came out? I had a lot of deja vu watching it recently with friends but I genuinely think that might be the only Ryan Gosling movie I watched.
Until Project Hail Mary. This fucking movie. Put the man in some slutty lil glasses, a cardigan, and give him a rock to fuck and apparently that's all it takes. Idk if he has any other "monsterfucker" vibes in his other roles but at this point my theory is that it took him being a monsterfucker but I digress.
The hopecore after being bombarded with apocalypse after apocalypse in general media and unhappy ending after unhappy ending (or just happy enough to be an ending but shit is still obviously fucked). I rly needed that.
Add on top Iron Lung, coming out the same year, CRAZY parallels, and Markiplier. Whom I have been a fan of since really early Amnesia days. Make the Barbies kiss. Completely reignited my passion for drawing and writing. I haven't done either with any regularity in 10 years. I've been drawing almost every day since I fell into the BloodyMary fandom. Not to mention the theory crafting and headcanoning and all that I've been doing with some friends in a group chat.
Then I start down the rabbit hole of RyGos' filmography and the movie I thought would be the least interesting to me - got me by the THROAT. Wettest cat Holland March. Not a competent bone in his body. Successful purely by sheer dumb fucking luck, genuinely against his better attempts to fuck everything up all the time. And yet that man *does* things to me. I fucking hate incompetent characters. They piss me off. But this one? This one I want to put a fucking leash on and walk him like a dog what is wrong with me.
And then. AND THEN. My friend gets me into Malevolent, the podcast. That's happening alongside my RyGos crisis. And The Nice Guys is just... theres so many parallels. Holland has a mustache and is the most pathetic wet cat. They're Private Investigators. Holland won't stop falling. I really don't think I need to say more. So Holland March is Arthur Lester. And obvi that means Jackson Healy is human John Doe.
Now the Ghost Rider announcement.
FUCK mannnnn. I got out of the vice grip the MCU had on me during the onslaught of content after End Game. Now I'm being dragged back in. Kicking and screaming. Down into hell. I was in those trenches for almost a decade. The amount of Stony smut alone that I've read would make an angel weep. And I'm a multishipper. Add on all the shenanigans happening in the new Avengers and all the old character being brought back and RDJ as Doon just has so much potential. Ugh. I literally cried into a tub of ice cream when I heard the news that RyGos is Ghost Rider bc all of these thoughts and emotions and realizations came crashing down in the same second.
None of this even mentions my obsession with Nic Cage (I literally have a pillow with his face on it that I cuddle sometimes) and how much I love the original Ghost Rider movie and Eva Mendes ohmygodddddd.
The circles keep circling. Too many layers. It goes too deep. I keep drawing different version of him. I can't stop. I'm so fucked.
