Pictures from a local park. I was compelled to put my feet in the sand of the river after work and at the end of the day, I must go where my feet take me.
I was taken with how lush the foliage was. The sunlight accentuated the greens and turned them lime, almost yellow. The paths were gravel, but it was much more pleasant to walk beside them barefoot in the grass.
On the beach, i sat and started to read "Our Town." My second reading of the play, in preparation for my second viewing of the play.
In the first act, we are told that Doc Gibbs' favorite hobby is history, especially the Civil War era. In that moment, on the beach of an old Civil War fort (originally built in years much before that), I felt a deep connection to my father (whose hobby is history), the land (for what is more grounding than sand shifting beneath your feet?) and my town (for even though Our Town is set in Massachusetts, it is here in my state as well).
My Town contains multitudes. So does Our Town. So does Your Town. Go find a river and stand on the riverbank, and read a book.
