Andrew Minyard may be the most contradictory character I have ever seen.

He thinks Exy is boring but he's the best goalkeeper in the league.

He's five feet flat but he's the foxes deadliest investment.

He doesn't talk to cops but he's a criminal justice major.

He scared of heights but he likes to go to the roof.

He protects his brother with everything he got but he doesn't even speak to him.

He's probably misogynistic but his best friend is a girl with angel wings on her back.

He doesn't care for anything but he would go back for five people in an apocalypse.

He feels nothing and too much at the same time.

He's violent, borderline possessive and he's the safest person Neil has ever met.

at some point in time andrew and neil live in a quiet neighborhood next to a single mom and her son and sometimes when neil and andrew are outside, whether on the porch smoking or making s'mores in the backyard, the kid wanders over and tells them about whatever he feels like talking about—how the kids at his school are so annoying, and how he's working on convincing his mom to let him get a snake, and how his mom taught him to make a new type of bracelet and do they want one, and, once, on a seemingly bad day, how his dad moved away before he was born and doesn't even care about meeting him.

and one day, the neighbor knocks on neil and andrew's door frantically and asks neil and andrew if they can keep an eye on her son because there's some kind of emergency (idk, friend in hospital, car crash, sickness whatever), and neil and andrew hesitantly agree. and they spend the whole day with the kid. and later that night, when the sun's gone down and the kid is all tired and mushy, his mom comes to pick him up, and andrew and neil overhear the kid tell his mom, "sometimes i wish they could be my dads instead."

and andrew doesn't speak for the rest of the night. they go to bed early and andrew shoves his face in neil's shoulder as they both try Very Hard not to have Emotions about this

idk why but for some reason i'm so much more interested in when a character knows that the person they are in love with loves them back but still feels like they can't act on it because personal issues and/or plot reasons than a character thinking its unrequited.
