*Some* people have asked me wtf my blog is even about. So I'll clarify.

(Psst, I now have a second blog called @ladytalksalot)

-I am a nerd, first and foremost. Horror was my main thing when I first got to Tumblr, but as I've gotten older, I've gotten more into action flicks. Still love horror, though.

-But in between those, I'm a sucker for Star Wars (Skywalker Saga only), Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Twilight, and so on and so on. And of course, old Disney movies, Marvel comics, DC comics, and so on and so on.

-I'm also a bit obsessed with sitcoms. I've seen just about every episode of every cheesy eighties show your grandma probably watches. So that might come up from time to time.

-I was *very* young when I started this blog (7th grade, I think), so if anyone happens to scroll down far enough, I apologize for younger me's cringy-ness.

-I do love writing, so I might start posting some of that on here. Maybe not actual stories yet, I'm gonna start with HCs and see how that goes.

-Some stuff may be NSFW. Idgaf if that bothers you, just don't act like I did something wrong for posting it.

-I reblog things randomly.

-Nothing politcal here. I'm not embarrassed about any opinions I have, but I've learned its wiser to keep your mouth shut about them online

15. What kind of a friend would I be if I didn't recommend my friend's book? Its called Cue the Rocky Music by Mike Kunda. Its a very sweet collection of stories about how his love of Rocky got him through life. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and likely say wtf, but in a good way

16. I haven't done a lot of reading lately, but if I have, its been mostly novelizations

19. If we're talking about popular books I disliked, then at the top of my head, most recent biographies on Diana Spencer. They're not writing about the woman, they're writing about the myth. Its such bullshit and I can't stand the stupid rumors about her being portrayed as fact

What do you mean Jane Eyre is "the mother of all bodice rippers", Patty? Rochester didn't kidnap, abuse, or attempt to sexually assault Jane.

It's "Pamela; or Virtue Rewarded" and "The Sheik" which are ancestors of the bodice ripper subgenre:

The 20th century's Fifty Shades of Grey — complete with a movie adaptation! — but Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan (pre-redemption) is a worse person than Christian Grey.

Mr. Rochester's many things, but a sexual threat to women is not one of them.

You know what? Fuck it I'm adding more context. Sesame Street has talked about the topic of death more than once and it's done with such gentle carefulness without watering down or censoring the heaviness of the situations. It treats heavy subject matter with respect and dignity and has been for DECADES. From the early 1980s:

Hell, they even cover the devastating heaviness of MASS SHOOTINGS without censoring or watering anything down.

They've been doing this for YEARS, and it's ALWAYS handled with dignity, respect, seriousness, understanding, and love.

Whenever I see people censoring words because it "might offend" someone or the big ad companies that are currently trying to run everything? I just want to say to them: "What? Is Sesame Street too mature for you?" Because really...what the hell are we doing.

Mister Roger's Neighborhood also covered difficult topics with respect, age-appropriately, and without pulling a single punch. It's crazy that we've worked ourselves up so much that we're self-censoring like it's always been the norm.

I'm not sure when this clip originally aired, but it was likely sometime in the 1980s. They talk about murder and, incredibly by today's standards, what sort of emotions (anger, fear, loneliness) might drive someone to hurt or kill other people + how we can manage our own difficult or painful feelings.
