If back then you post a fic as anon, can you change it so it now has your name? (sorry if this question is asked before)
Yup! You just have to remove your work from the Anonymous collection you added it to.
To do this, go to your fic and Edit it. Scroll down until you get to the Associations section of the work posting form. The first line in that section shows what collections your work is a part of. Here's an example:
To remove your work, just click on that X next to the name and then save your work.
Shoutout to the dedicated cheerleaders of wips who comment on each chapter and motivate the poor fic writer to keep going you are crucial to the ecosystem
@crumchycow love your vision of pavlovsdogging writers into writing more. Brilliant
Some of you would not survive waiting months to years for a WIP to update.
Look at me, listen to me: A couple of months is way too early to think a fic is abandoned or dead. A year is often too early. Internalize this.
Reblogging with @marvelingjules very good tags because they are very good and very true and much politer than what I would say
25 years later that WIP is still IP
repeat after me
I WILL FINISH MY WIP
I WILL FINISH MY WIP
I WILL FINISH MY WIP
I WILL FINISH MY I WILL FIN I WILL I W- I WANNA START A NEW ONE
“How’s your WIP going?”
"Have you made any progress?”
“How close are you to being done?”
no matter the struggles there is always ao3 in bed
ao3 writers are either *90% of works are short oneshots* or *physically incapable of writing a oneshot, everything must be expanded upon*
I got a comment today that said smth along the lines of "I didn't wanna be weird commenting on a four month old fic"
Baby, bless your heart but four months isn't old by any means and ao3 isn't fucking instagram. Comment on fics you like, regardless of how old they are! The worst that could happen is you make an author's day. Writing is art, not content.
idc how hard you try you will NOT get me to stop using snorted in my dialogue. i will always use growled and choked and hissed and huffed and grunted and breathed and frowned and sniffed and scoffed and spluttered and purred and snickered and exhaled and whimpered and smiled and laughed and sneered and frowned
i love you words that indicate sound and tone i love you poetics i love you dialogue tags they will never take you away from me i love you i love you i love you
You know what?
I love you, fics that take months to update. I click on the newest chapter and have no memory of this place and get to go back some chapters and rediscover how much i love everything about this story.
I love you, fics that take years to update. I think of you fondly, and know your names, go search for you and see an update from this year and scream, diving in uncaring of any missed details (i will finish the update and read you in reverse because this is a treat you have bestowed)
I love you, fics that probably will never update again. Thank you for being a roman empire for my mind, thank you for teaching me about the ephemeral fandom experience, for inspiring a thousand million what if-s, for being a comfort read and a nostalgia read and a reread.
I love you fic writers, who jump into projects and stories with enthusiasm. I love you when you succeed in pumping out those chapters and that love doesn't go away when you stop.
I love you fic writers who post and then get in your own head and never feel confident enough to update, whether it's at all or whether it's just that one story.
I love you fic writers, who have a fandom or media hurt you to the point of abandoning or having a hard time with their WIPs.
I love you fic writers, who lose interest or have life changes or illness or bad memory. Thank you for being part of the fandom, a core part of the fandom. Thank you for the time spent in the fandom.
I love you, fic writers who try out something new and then stop. You're so valid.
I love you, WIP fics that may or may not ever get finished. Thank you for brightening my day in the way only you could have.
You guys are commenting on the fics you read right? You’re at least leaving kudos on the Astarion smut and the pairs that have less than 20 fics for them too? You’re bookmarking stories you really like that are still being updated and ones that haven’t been touched in over a year right?
You know that even the smallest interactions are like cocaine to fic writers right? You understand how important a string of emoji hearts left behind on chapter at three am is right?? Right????
You’re treating AO3 like a community and not a content factory….right?
but what if im cringe. what if the ao3 writers think im a loser what then
Cringe is dead!!! There’s nothing cringe about being happy and letting people know!!!! Please don’t be afraid!!!! It’s a special kind of relationship between an author and a reader who comments on ever chapter of a story and it’s a good one!!!
CRINGE IS DEAD
My friends, my friends. Why would you consign yourself to containing your excitement and appreciation for a work of art you enjoy for fear of mockery?
Do you imagine that the artist does not fear the same? Do you imagine that the artist did not consider the ramifications of exposing a piece of their soul for consumption?
Do you imagine that an artist, a person, who created and now shows to you, a work that they cared for, would mock you for enjoyment? Do you imagine an author or visual artist to be a schoolyard Bully waiting to throw their own work in the mud andn chasitize you for your interest?
The artist is not the schoolyard Bully. The artist is sitting alone on the playground thinking they have no friends.
Do not allow your fear of mockery make you your own bully. The artist wants to know how you felt. They want to know what specific words made your heart feel light or heavy. What characterization made you rethink something.
The author wants a book report.
Do I want to hear your opinions about my books on the internet? I do not. Do I want deep, thoughful analysis of my fanfiction in AO3 comments? Absofuckinglutely.
