@swimmer-problems
Hey swimmers!
So as many of you have noticed, I haven't been on the interwebs in a very long time! I've actually just finished up my first year of college, and haven't really been up to date on Tumblr at all. But, with summer arriving and a newfound inspiration to keep writing and blogging, I'm determined to continue running this blog for as long as I can!
With all that in mind, I have a HUGE backlog of messages, dated from even a couple of years ago. So, if you've sent me a message, please be patient for a bit longer! I will get to it eventually :)
I have a lot of fresh ideas for swimmer problems (college-related and not), so be on the lookout for some new posts with a new design!
Love you all. To everyone who's stuck around for this long, y'all are the best. I hope to satisfy all your needs for relatable #swimmerproblems <3

ive been swimming for 7 years (15 now) & i don't really find swimming as fun as it used to be. i stopped cutting time during my 13-14, never went to swim meets much cause it became so depressing for me. ive thought about quitting the only reason why i don't want is so i can have a sport on my high school resume. i don't plan on college swimming but coaches have told me i have a lot of potential that i dont see at all. i take breaks, but end up missing swimming. i find myself dreading practice every single time. i really don't know what im supposed to do because if i quit i know ill miss it, but i also want to swim because i want to, not just so i can get into a good college.
I actually know exactly how you feel. There are times when it just doesn't seem worth it anymore, yet it's all you've ever known. I think you're just going through one of those bumps along the road. Maybe what you need is something to jump start that love for the sport again. Friends are gonna be a big part of it. If you don't have many that can help you with this, then consider moving teams. Something new will always get you excited to get into it.
And if your coaches say you have potential, then you should definitely consider their thoughts. Oftentimes, coaches know more about you [swimming-wise] than you know about yourself.
I really hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your swimming career :)

hi so I'm 14 and I know I'm not the best swimmer or anything I do sprints, like 50s, 100s, 200s, and people always think bad of me, like the distance swimmers, because they think I take it for granted and that I think I'm better than them, but I don't and I hate it when people always bag on sprint swimmers, because we work hard too. Just because we don't swim 12 miles at practice doesn't mean we aren't working our assess off trying to drop not even a tenth of a second, and all these blogs, not saying specifically you, but a lot of swimmer blogs I follow always say how annoying sprint swimmers are, and it really hurts me, because we work hard too, and just because we don't do the same things as the distance swimmers doesn't mean we're not "real swimmers" or anything. I still swim 12 months of the year, 7 days a week, double practices every weekend. Okay that was long and sorry that was just kind of a rant but I had to say it. Ugh okay
I know exactly how you feel. Being a sprinter myself, I've had my share of people telling me that my events are "easy" and that I "don't really have to work that hard," but it's not true at all. If anything, the sprint events are the hardest because they require absolute perfection. If you screw up, even once, even on a single stroke, that could be a tenth of a second right there. Alternatively, if you screw up on a stroke in say a 500, nobody would know because the time wouldn't show it as conspicuously. So sure, distancers can train the day away and that's how they'd get fast. But sprinters train too. They may not equal the amount of yardage put in by the distancers, but the effort put into it is the same. The only difference is in the actual race, when distancers have a hefty five minutes plus to get the job done, while sprinters find themselves at the end of their races after only a mere twenty odd seconds.
I guess I got into a little rant there too hahaha. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but that entitlement doesn't quite include the right for one swimmer to tell another swimmer that what they do doesn't make them a real swimmer.
hi i'm a new swimming blog and i was wondering if i could get a promo? :)

any tips for dropping time in the 100m fly? uuggh i hate long course, there are less walls :/
Take out your first 50 strong but smooth. Feel the speed, if that makes sense, but don't overwork yourself. Make sure you breathe at least three or four times in the first 25, as that oxygen you get from there will come in handy when you're coming back on the second 50.
Make your turn quick and push powerfully off the wall. A longer streamline would be beneficial at this point, but only if you're efficient at it. If your streamline slows you down, you may as well swim instead.
This is the hard part. The number one thing is to keep your form!! So often, swimmers will start to swim vertically (myself included). As hard as it is to stay horizontal in the water, you'll have to train yourself in practice to be able to do it. Especially in the 100 fly, it won't come magically to you in a race. Keep kicking, and don't lift your head up too high on the breath.
Finish strong, as it could make a difference of .01 or .06 (evidenced by Michael Phelps in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, respectively).
Hope this helps!
