“Oh sorry… I uh, yeah that’s probably a good thing. Trouble has never been good,” she shrugged. Who is she to really judge a person? All what she knows is the little things here and there and what she would do in certain cases. Anything involving another person was far out of her range of knowledge. “Just some guy here. He’s the REAL trouble so if you are avoiding that, you may want to put him on your list.” Despite the fact that they may be friends — more like she just keeps him out of trouble really — doesn’t mean she can’t warn others of him. “I wouldn’t try that. He might try to convince you to do something else. I think he is insane or something — not quite sure yet. I’m waiting for the tests to come back.”

honestly dora didn’t know what to say. she wasn’t one to judge someone -- she was no saint -- but eisa’s warnings weren’t falling on deaf ears. she couldn’t help but be a little worried that there were people who were troublemakers around the school. she could only hope that maybe being around people who wanted to be good, who wanted to be controlled, could help him as much as she hoped it would help her. “i’ll keep that in mind.” she replied with a nod -- the warriness still present. “he’s not, i mean, there’s no one here who is actually DANGEROUS... right?”

It would have been easy to bombard the other mutant with criticism, but it was clear to see she meant no harm and no good would come of it. Jack noticed when she tripped over her words. She seemed, for lack of a better word, nervous. He knew what it was like not being able to control his powers and how it effected the people around him. A psionic blast? No wonder it’d hurt. Even if it had only been a slight nudge, it was his brain was being messed with, something very important to him. What an unsettling thought. Now that the pain in his head had subsided, Jack was able to think a little bit more clearly. She must have been new. “It takes a while to learn control,” he offered. “You’re relatively new here, right?”

dora couldn’t help but feel relieved when it became apparent that he wasn’t angry. her worst fear was that she’d cross a line, hurt someone again, and end up right back where she’d started. where she sometimes thought she belonged. she nodded her head at his questions; she hadn’t been there long enough for people to really know her so it didn’t come as a surprise. “just a few months, yeah, i’m pretty new.” she agreed, shrugging slightly. “the professors keep telling me that, that it’s not my FAULT, but it sort of feels like your fault when you’re the one hurting people.”

the conversation had turned a bit dark and honestly -- dora wasn’t a dark person. she liked to keep things calm, EASY, and she didn’t want people to look at her like she was a ticking timebomb. “you’re jack, right? i think we might have a class together...?”

the blonde wasn’t in the mood to listen to the random ramblings of another student, not when she had just gotten zapped for no apparent reason other than the fact that the beholder of said power seemed unstable for some ungodly reason. green hues focused on hazel, her face looked seemingly unimpressed as she raised a hand to hopefully stop her from apologizing any further. “ i’m FINE. quit your babbling, will you ? a little zap isn’t going to kill me. “

dora choked back another apology when she was told to stop, biting the inside of her cheek to keep from saying it again. it was hard not to, especially when you really did feel bad for what you’d done. it was an impulse. while the blonde might not have thought it was a big deal, to dora it was. she COULD have killed her, could have seriously hurt her, and that was something she was always far too aware of. always cautious, afraid that her powers could get out of control and really hurt someone again. “i’m just -- are you sure you’re alright?” she asked carefully, afraid to anger the blonde more than she likely already had with her slip up.

When the young woman rushed to his side and began to apologize profusely, Jack could only manage a small sigh and a tight lipped smile. “Accidents happen.” Whatever had wormed its way into his head had certainly startled him and hurt. Pressing a hand flat against his temple, he quickly tried to recover from whatever it was that just hit him. Was it something psionic? He couldn’t be certain unless he asked. But it never seemed polite to ask. Looking at the other mutant carefully, he tried to put a name to a face with little success. Jack was terrible with names. “What happened?”

dora HATED hurting people. she hated knowing that their pain was because of her, and that brief flash of pain that flitted across their features was a result of something she’d done. no amount of apologizing could make it okay -- not to her. not after what she’d done. taking a step back { not wanting to crowd him } she rocked on the balls of her feet as she tried to think of the best way to explain it. “it was a psionic blast.” she explained, figuring it best to just be direct. “kind of like a mental nudge, i guess. i don’t -- i would never use my powers to h-hurt someone.” she tripped over her words in her haste to explain, wanting to make sure he KNEW there had been no ill intentions behind her actions. “i’m not -- my control isn’t the best. i’m working on it. it’s -- it doesn’t always work.”

controlling her powers was something that dora was still struggling with. judging by the splitting migraine she was currently experiencing, today was going to be one of the CHALLENGING days. so preoccupied with her thoughts, she didn’t even notice when she bumped into someone in the hall -- though she DID notice when she accidentally zapped the poor student who had the misfortune to cross her path. it was nothing harmful, thankfully, only enough to feel like a slight tapping in their mind, but it was enough to make her reel back; apologies spilling out her mouth so quickly she was tripping over her words. “oh gosh, i’m so, so, sorry. i wasn’t paying attention and i just -- are you okay? i didn’t, i -- you’re okay, right?”

it’s a hallway rarely frequented by others, tucked away on one of the upper floors, the narrow corridor merely connected two staircases and held a couple of storage closets. it’s a quiet place, which is sometimes a rarity at the academy. emily’s sat on the floor against a cool brick wall, legs stretched out almost all the way across the hall. you’ve reached the voicemail of tyler harper, please leave a message ––– she hangs up. there’s a hitch in her breath, and subsequently all of the light in the hallway ––– possibly the whole floor ––– is swallowed into darkness.

dora liked to take the road less travelled on her way back from class. as much as she wanted to make friends and get to know people, she did BETTER in smaller environments. away from crowds. at least ever since her powers had manifested. so she was a bit shocked when all the lights plunged into darkness on her way back to her room, stumbling slightly as her heel caught on the tile. “woah,” she breathed out, blinking to try to see through the darkness. “is, ah, is someone there?” she called out, SERIOUSLY hoping that there wasn’t a serial killer lurking in the shadows. no one wanted to be that stupid girl who called out when there was a KILLER waiting to, well, kill you. everyone hated that girl.

heyoo heyoo, i kind of forgot to do a little intro for dora so ima do that now !!

dora has three loving parents. her parents have been in a poly relationship for as long as she can remember and she loves her two dads and her mother. honestly she has no idea which of her dads is her biological dad and they’ve never really cared enough to look into it. they’ve always been a family and it never mattered. neither of her dads have powers but her mother is a telepath... something that became super inconvenient when she started getting old enough to want to keep secrets from her parents.

dora’s powers were late manifesting. she was sixteen when she accidentally cast a psionic blast at her mother during a fight they were having. it was about prom -- dora wanted to go with her twenty year old boyfriend (yikes) -- and her mother was against the relationship because of the age difference and the fact that smith was kind of a problematic dude. dora got upset and when she tried to shove her way past her mom she sent a blast in her direction and knocked her out. with her powers out of control, and her emotions running rampant, she nearly drove herself crazy when she brought her hands up to press against her head to try to calm down. with her mother in a coma and her fathers put on display in a rather public way, the state removed her from their care -- deeming them and their lifestyle unfit for a child -- and she was put into the system until the trial. though the lawyers and the judge would never admit it, she was unfairly persecuted for being a mutant. by the time she was 18 she was sentenced to 4 years in a federal prison. she only spent six months behind bars before her fathers were successful in petitioning the courts { with the assistance of mutant advocate groups -- determined to protect mutants from unfair incarceration } and her sentence was overturned and she was released.

even once she was home, dora was terrified. her powers scared her, were often overwhelming and accidentally produced, and her dads had no way to help her through it. they were the ones who recommended she go to the academy to try to learn how to harness her powers so that she wouldn’t have to worry about hurting someone like she’d hurt her mom. to this day she still worries that the damage will be irreversible, that she might never wake up, and that it would be completely her fault if it happened.

personality wise, dora is a pretty easy person to get along with. she tries her best to make friends (probably would have been prom queen if not for the accident) and always makes the effort to be the bigger person. sure, she has her dramatic moments, and sometimes makes a mountain out of a molehill but she genuinely wants to be a good person and make a positive impact on the world. she’s very big into mutant/human relations and feels that as terrible as the world is there’s always a chance to make things right and strive to be better. as long as you’re willing to try.

she is also a huge huge huge believer in love. honestly she falls hard and fast and unfortunately it is usually for people who don’t deserve her love. she’s had several relationships { usually with people several years older than her } but she’s never found someone who really made her a better version of herself. unfortunately it’s just never managed to work out. she’s still a hopeless romantic though and hopes to someday find someone (or someones) to spend her life with. also cats. she wants so many cats.

He should have made an attempt to look apologetic, but Sullivan was too focused on not just ripping the feathers out. It would be easier than CLEANING this. Painful, but he wouldn’t have to pick at someone’s disgusting gum. With a huff, he looked to the girl he’d nearly knocked over. Help. Yes. That. “They have a mind of their own.” No. They didn’t– Sullivan was just frustrated enough to do the equivalent of flailing his arm around. “… Maybe. What gets gum out?”

what removed gum. what DID remove guy? she knew that she knew the answer to that question, she’d definitely read about it before, but why was she drawing a blank? screwing her eyes shut, she tried to focus as she chewed on her bottom lip. “hold on, i know this,” she mused, humming under her breath, “oh -- i know! i mean, well, you can get gum out of your hair with olive oil or peanut butter... we could try that?”

“I mean… No but like, it’s not like it hasn’t happened before or something. You could do way worse than sneaking into the kitchen. Just ask Jake,” she shrugged her shoulders at the other. Really, she’s not the academy police or anything but she’s also not about to breaking any rules either. Elisa slowly nodded her head as though she completely understood everything that the other was saying — even though she really didn’t. “Uh-huh… Okay. Yeah. That makes sense.” No, no it did not. Not at all.

“honestly i’m trying to AVOID getting into trouble.” dora admitted uneasily. having spent a few months behind bars before she was brought to the academy, she had no desire to step a toe out of line again. even if it was just something as simple -- as INNOCENT -- as knicking some cereal from the kitchens. “who is jake?” she had to ask, trying not to look as puzzled as she was. having been there only four months, and given the amounts of people at the academy, it went without saying that she didn’t know everyone. not for lack of trying. “if he’s, um, someone who does worse thing,” she winces, “maybe HE’S the best person to ask about getting that cereal...”

“have you ever heard of KINGDOM HEARTS? it’s a game that you can play on the playstation. maybe the x-box too, i dunno, i never had one as a kid.” she shrugged her shoulders. “basically they fused disney movies and final fantasy characters together and made a surprisingly fun game!”

Jaz was often scolded when she manipulated the weather out of the natural climate progression. But the temptation to see the weather bend to her wishes was a difficult call to ignore. She could feel the shift in temperature, in atmospheric pressure, in the ecological dissonance; what people often didn’t understand was that she was connected to the elements. They spoke to her and she spoke to them. And sometimes when she was angry, they responded to her without her consent, without her knowledge. But that was before. And today was another day. NOTHING was happening. She was BORED. Lifting up her head, she called out to the first person she saw and shouted, “What do you feel like today? Thunder storm. Snowstorm. Heatwave. I’m open to ideas.”

not used to being asked her opinion on things, dora paused as she scrambled to think of something. “um,” she searched her mind, trying to think of something -- anything -- that would be the RIGHT answer. or an interesting answer. “what about a sun shower? you get the benefits of the sun -- and warmth -- but you won’t freeze to death while you’re trying to enjoy it. it’s a win win for everyone!”

“Oh… Yeah, no. I am definitely not that person. I mean, you could always like sneak into the kitchen and hunt them down. I’m sure they are in there somewhere. You just can’t what?” Elisa really does not at all understand that phrase one bit. They can’t even? They can’t breathe? What can’t a person do?

“am i ALLOWED to sneak into the kitchen?” having only been at the academy for four months, dora hadn’t really tested the waters on what was and wasn’t appropriate. sneaking into the kitchen sounded like a bad idea, mostly due to the whole SNEAKING aspect, but she really wasn’t sure. rules were confusing, especially when you were sort of an adult. “i um, i just can’t?” she shrugged, not sure how to explain it. “like when you can’t do something, or you’re just kind of...” she gestured wildly with her hands. “y’know, you just CAN’T.”

his enthusiasm was infectious and she couldn’t help but smile. “maybe we should start a petition.” she mused. “collect signatures, maybe make some signs... demand that they give you the robot leg you deserve. hey -- i’ve got glitter glue. it’ll make the signs look especially APPEALING to the eye.”

“technology is always advancing.” dora commented, trying to be helpful as she listened to him talk. having only been at the academy for a few months she wasn’t overly familiar with its residents but she WAS trying to make more friends. be social. “you never know. maybe someday you can put rocket boosters in it... you know, like iron man!”

“Oh, dammit,” Sullivan grumbled to himself as he tried to stretch a wing out to pick gum out of it, only to find that it had gotten seriously worked into his feathers. Wow. Just. Amazing. Wonderful. He flapped his other wing out irritably, ignorant and uncaring of the people around him. “Who– How? How?” The stringy, sticky, pink mess was all over his secondaries and he was going to throw someone off the roof.

dora managed to squeak as she jumped out of the way – narrowly avoiding taking a wing to the face. thankfully she’d managed to control her powers { somewhat } otherwise sullivan would have ended up with a psionic blast to the back. not a great way to make friends. “woah, watch out.” she commented, wincing slightly when she saw the gum stuck to his wing. “ooh… that looks messy. do you, uh, do you want some help?”
