—Mary Oliver, “The Summer Day”
“The conventional wisdom of the Tower of Babel story is that the collapse was a misfortune. That it was the distraction, or the weight of many languages that precipitated the tower’s failed architecture. That one monolithic language would have expedited the building and heaven would have been reached. Whose heaven, she wonders? And what kind? Perhaps the achievement of Paradise was premature, a little hasty if no one could take the time to understand other languages, other views, other narratives period. Had they, the heaven they imagined might have been found at their feet. Complicated, demanding, yes, but a view of heaven as life; not heaven as post-life.”
— Toni Morrison’s Nobel lecture, December 7, 1993
I recently started discovering Mahler (I’ve read memoirs about him), his life and his music and… I’m completely speechless.
PS: his song cycles are great. If I’ll get the chance to sing them, I’ll definitely do it!
this is going to have me on my hands and knees dry heaving
what the FUCK man.
critically stagnant spotlight campaigns for today (3/13.)
all campaigns are vetted by the organizers of gaza funds. this site has been vouched for by palestinian bloggers. for full transparency, a list of campaigns is available to view on their site. additionally, if you look at my list of individual campaigns, you will see that i personally trust these campaigns and have donated to them many times.
raghad's family: 9 days since last donation
campaigns in danger of becoming critically stagnant:
mohammed ahmed: 6 days since last donation
yasmin's family: 5 days since last donation
karem al-kahlout: 5 days since last donation
yahia hawajry: 5 days since last donation
ahmed atallah: 5 days since last donation
nada muhaisen: 5 days since last donation
dr. isam: 4 days since last donation
ghada and abdulrahman: 4 days since last donation
this list comprises the majority of my active gaza funds spotlight campaigns. i am actively spotlighting 15 campaigns. one is critically stagnant, and eight more are in danger of becoming critically stagnant.
individual posts for these campaigns are generally ignored, which is why i've moved to using this pinned post instead. it simply takes me too long to queue up a bunch of posts people will just scroll past. please don’t ignore this, you have the opportunity to throw someone a lifeline and do some real good. even if you don’t have any money, a reblog is free and can help get more eyes on these campaigns. none of them are on tumblr, to my knowledge. nobody sees these campaigns unless people reblog posts about them or make their own posts.
thank you in advance for your consideration.
tags for reach under the cut (you can always let me know if you'd rather not be on this list, or if you want to be added to the list!)
i am a day late but
huge fan of the depth of a good purple but another area that draws me is definitely around aquamarine/turquoise/seafoam. you can not go wrong once the green starts getting just a tinge more blue. a gal could certainly do worse than to pull over there and stay a while
something earth shattering going on here
this is why one of my favorite all-time paintings is Ship in Stormy Seas by Ivan Aivazovsky... he was really onto something there
a close up to just... light shining through those waves, makes me feel faint with exhilaration every time
THERE IS A BOAT BY IVAN AIVAZOVSKY!!
Ivan Aivazovsky could paint glowing water. One of the GOATs for sure.

Back in Ireland! Catching up on my book club reads, trying to knit the step-by-step sweater, and chipping away at my assignments. It’s quite nice to be home ☕️
Happy winter solstice!! ❄️🌲
