Global warming under decades of neo-liberal governments means that this is France right now:
It means all rivers are going dry, and that one of the longest river of Europe, the Danube, has gone so dry we've discovered mammoth skeletons.
Back to France, it means more than 200 000 people have been evacuated because the fires keep spreading.
It means that during the first two weeks of the heat wave, mortality has increased by 38% compared to last summer.
It means teachers told parents not to send their kids to school because the classrooms were suffocating.
It means hospitals, nursing homes, schools and private homes still are not equipped with air conditioning or renovated so as not to turn into an oven during the summer.
It means me and all my neighbours woke up coughing to the smell of burning smoke at 3 a.m yesterday. I immediately got dressed and took my dog out, because another fire had started nearby and the smoke was so strong I wasn't sure if my building was the one on fire.
It means in my region alone there has been 48% more wild fires than last year. And we're not even in August.
It means people have to live with their curtains closed and take cold showers several times a day. It means there's not enough trees in the cities to make the temperature go down. It means homeless people have no respite, they burn on the pavement.
It means even Spain is sending help and planes to help stop the endless fire currently consuming an entire national Park. The smell of the smoke has reached the other side of the country.
But don't worry, the real problem is immigration, Islam, lazy youngsters, and those annoying disabled people who cost too much money. Oh and vegans! God, they are the worst aren't they?
