OY! I’m spent... and it feels like I’m only just beginning. Butt hay, I FINISHED MY THESIS *cheers* and handed it in to the faculty at CCS. Then I hopped down to NYC for the Queers & Comics conference which was like brain-meltingly rad and informative – I want to write about it but have to digest a little first.

In the meantime, here’s a little glimpse of my blood, sweat, tears for your greedy eyes---------

I chose to print on yellow paper because I felt it would compliment all the base and unsavory content that sort of acts as the backbone for what I hope are the story’s deeper intentions–and because I was told it would look like shit and piss with the cover ;^.^

I bought the fancy plastic plates at http://www.tapplastics.com/ which was cool because you can customize whatever size and thickness you want, plus they have a really nice spectrum of colors to choose from; and I bound it using a coptic stitch while watching this video 300 times (https://youtu.be/S2FRKbQI2kY) Anyone who was near me for this process can attest to how soothing this person’s voice is and couldn’t have done it without them.

That’s just a bite. I’m going to upload some excerpts and will eventually be making print copies of WHALEN Pt. 1 that aren’t priceless artifacts. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay?

A Plea for Pity on Behalf of the Artist

Here in White River Junction things are quiet as humans wait indoors for the cold to disperse, unfazed by the teasing Sun. This may at least be the case for those who have maintained some semblance of free-will and who don’t have a thesis to complete by May, and who therefore would by no means find themselves remaining indoors to draw night and day regardless of whether the buds are blossoming.

I, on the other hand, remain at my desk night and day, scratching and erasing away in hopes of at least completing what will resemble a chapter in my “premiere graphic oeuvre,” to be presented to the faculty at CCS and judged according to a set of criteria, whatever those might be…

I’ve had the profound privilege of being advised by Edie Fake, who has been an indispensable source of criticism and encouragement. Edie is the shit and if you haven’t read his comics go get yourself informed.

The working title for this piece is Whalen or, The Shadow – but I’m sensing that that will inevitably change because I’ve basically already stripped all the flesh off the first draft so I’m sure the title will follow suite.

In any case, I’m just going to spend this last crucial month of my time here at comics school drawing my fucking arse off and uploading updates as I chug along. Stay tuned and send me any feedback (but please only the constructive kind because I’m as brittle as ice as of late.)
