the urge to delete everything and disappear
every single person at kurzgesagt needs to be dragged into the street and subjected to torments dredged up from the depths of hell itself
i am going to turn into an infinite whirlwind of blades.
Still one of my favorite things I've created
There seems to be a lot of confusion about this. The working title of the comic strip was "Mr. Krabs gets sent to the abyss and faces the divine light of God above" I hope this helps
I've had trouble tracking down the original photographers, but these mostly appear to be pictures of the blast furnaces in Belgium (called things like Haut-Fourneau 4/6/B etc.); here are some other pictures of HFB, of HF4 Charlenoi, and some of HF6 Seraing, by other urban explorers. the first picture is probably cables for an arc furnace, I saw one Instagram post claim it was in Canada but it didn't seem to be the original.
i need to gush about how incredibly seamless her compositing is in these. Compositing is incredibly hard and time consuming work on a crisp clean digital image. But compositing into what seems to be a scanned photograph that was shot on film? Insane work. The film grain + photo paper texture is matched perfectly as well as the varying softness from being slightly out of focus in different amounts in each image. Each film stock has its own specific tone too some are warmer, others are more purply, or green and they all handle contrast with light and shadow completely differently. There was so much to take into account doing this and i really dont know how she did it other than maybe finding those locations again and shooting with the same film stock on a day with similar lighting. I cannot stress enough that for professional photographers doing complex compositing is mostly relegated to having a fully locked down camera set up in studio under controlled repeatable lighting. Super impressive and a really fantastic photo series truly.
Just saw a petition in a group chat about "don't bring ICE to Europe!" and I felt insane for a minute. We already have militarised borders and concentration camps for migrants and we let people die in the sea and we banish people to unfamiliar countries and we brutalise them and we terrorise them and we detain and deport them!! The UK and the EU are not the liberal paradises we pretend they are!! Our borders kill people!! We don't need a petition to keep US violence away, we need to organise against the European violence we already have!!
The amount of pictures of people dying in boats trying to get to europe. and the amount of few survivors who then get denied put into prisons (remembering the harlem panopticon where we put immigrants for a while. and i do mean like an actual literal panopticon.) or camps and then send back. and why? because some europeans are so fucking racist and xenophobics theyd rather see their fellow men die than to have absolutely nothing change in their lifes to help these people survive. Words will never be enough to explain my rage for how EU has treated people like absolute fucking cattle. all my life the news here. the politicians. the US is a shithole. the EU is a shithole but tries a lot harder to hide it. theres so much blood on these hands. its sickening.
I keep remembering that fucking post about "Uwu look at Europe's beautiful open borders!!!!" With pictures of a little boundary stone in a field in Belgium or a line painted on a road in Luxembourg, that was circulating around the same time as yet another overloaded boat had been turned back by Greek or Italian coastguards in the middle of the Mediterranean and the International Community(TM) had collectively shrugged when bits of it started washing up in the Greek islands.
The way that Europe has sold itself as such a fluffy woo Good Vibes Only Continent should be studied.

and what if I told you guys that virtually everyone you ever meet will turn out to be really interesting if you give them a chance
some real miserable fucks in the notes I fear
I'm not even saying you have to talk to every single person you meet. and you're certainly not going to LIKE all of them. but every person does have a rich interior life and complex feelings and unique worldview. sorry.
the rapture has already happened and only a singular starfish (most innocent) was sent to heaven in 632 AD
fuck it. be creative even if you never really *make* anything. write out plot synopses of stories and then move on. design OCs you'll never use. make mood boards and concept art and don't do anything with them. life's too short to forget everything that inspired you and creation doesn't have to be "complete" to be worth the time you put into it.
