Trivia 承: Love 1 [lyrics+vocab]
Is this love? Is this love? Sometimes I know Sometimes I don’t 이 다음 가사 음 뭐라고 쓸까 음 너무 많은 말이 날 돌지만 내 마음 같은 게 하나 없어
➼ 이 - this ➼ 다음 - next ➼ 가사 - lyrics ➼ 음 - hmm ➼ 쓰다 - to write ➼ 말 - words ➼ 돌다 - to turn, surround ➼ 같다 - to be the same
그냥 느껴져 해가 뜨고 나면 꼭 달이 뜨듯이 손톱이 자라듯, 겨울이 오면 나무들이 한 올 한 올 옷을 벗듯이 넌 나의 기억을 추억으로 바꿀 사람 사람을 사랑으로 만들 사람 널 알기 전 내 심장은 온통 직선뿐이던 거야
➼ 해가 뜨다 - for the sun to rise ➼ 꼭 - for sure ➼ 달이 뜨다 - for the moon to rise ➼ 손톱 - nail ➼ 자르다 - to grow ➼ 나무 - tree ➼ 올 - a strand (of hair for example) ➼ 한 올 한 올 - strand by strand ➼ 옷을 벗다 - to take off clothes ➼ 기억 - memories (what one just remembers) ➼ 추억 - memories (recollection, a deep memory) ➼ 바꾸다 - to change ➼ 사람 - person ➼ 사랑 - love ➼ 만들다 - to make ➼ 알다 - to know ➼ 심장 - heart ➼ 온통 - always ➼ 직선 - a straight line
➽ ~듯(이) is a very easy grammar that means “the same as” or “as if”
➽ ~(으)로
➽ ~기 전(에)
➽ ~뿐이다
➽ ~던/았던
Let me just talk about how genius Joon’s lyrics are. The words 사람 (person) and 사랑 (love) sound and are even written in a very similar way. He basically based the whole song on that. Even the English chorus - I live so I love - is based on this because the word 사람 comes from the verb 살다 which means “to live”! and 사랑하다 the verb for “to love” is made just by adding 하다 to 사랑. He’s just playing with both pronounciation and writing of Korean and English and I think that’s just brilliant and it goes on in the entire song.
And how he talks about the straight line... I think he also means that the ㅁ in “person” made of straight lines changes into a circle ㅇ in “love”. And I don’t know if this is also related but live (straight line) and love (circle) in English follow the same pattern.
난 그냥 사람, 사람, 사람 넌 나의 모든 모서릴 잠식 나를 사랑, 사랑, 사랑 으로 만들어 만들어 우린 사람, 사람, 사람 저 무수히 많은 직선들 속 내 사랑, 사랑, 사랑 그 위에 살짝 앉음 하트가 돼
➼ 모서리 - edge ➼ 잠식 - to encroach ➼ 무수히 - countlessly ➼ 많다 - to be many ➼ 직선 - straight line ➼ 위 - the top ➼ 살짝 - slightly ➼ 앉다 - to sit ➼ 하트 - heart
Does this explain the last sentence...? haha
I live so I love, I live so I love (Live & love, live & love) (Live & love, live & love) I live so I love, I live so I love (Live & love, live & love) (If it’s love, I will love you)
