What do you think Severus be like with would be like with a partner who is terrified of abandonment due to experiencing it in past relationships?

I'd like to think he has the same trouble approaching his abandonment issues; he's just a little more aggressive with it.

He was so worried Lily would leave him that he decided it better to do it first so he could tell himself it hurt less. Hurting her, his best friend, before she had the chance to do it to him like everyone else had found a way to. A self-fulfilling prophecy, and a self-aware one at that.

But he had learned the hard way exactly what terribly obvious realization landed him with - the sinking knowledge that his actions had a good part in her leaving.

So with this partner, he goes out of his way to offer constant reminders. Just.. subtly. Not to strong. A snack they like here or there, a pair of winter gloves they were looking at in the boutique last month. A new quill and a well of ink left on their office desk when he sees them stretch their hand from mediating pressure to hold the old quill a certain way whilst they write (especially if they're left-handed!). At night he won't wrap his arms around them unless they specifically ask him to - instead, he'll put his back to them during the winter months so they have something to warm their chilled face against, even if it makes him shudder. The way they chuckle out an apology for the sudden temperature change eases the tension.

As I said in a previous post, Severus isn't big on extravagant displays of affection. Where another would spin a lover around in a hug, he might offer a few knuckles down their back or a hand on their shoulder - not around, so as not to draw attention. A pat here or there. Lol

But in private, Severus was truly theirs and they knew it, even if he wasn't on his knees for them at their beck and call.
