"another nightmare?"

kazuha isn't sure why you suddenly started having nightmares. the first time you came knocking on his door was about two weeks ago. you were hysterical and inconsolable, blubbering something about the dark and being hurt by something you couldn't see. kazuha, who was too tired to help, panicked and told the nearest attendant to take you to your mother. he thought that that would be the end of it, but you kept coming back, each night with some new thing haunting your dreams.

even at his young age, kazuha is crushed by the idea that you can't sleep. you've been smiling less lately, you're too tired to really keep up with kazuha when he tries to train with you, and the hallways are so much quieter now that attendants aren't chasing after you in a futile attempt to get you to stay still for more than fifteen minutes. you're not you -- you haven't been for two weeks.

so, kazuha stopped calling for someone to take you to your mother about a week ago. it took some getting used to, but he's been staying up later and listening for the pitter-patter of your frantic footsteps. he's more than happy to take care of you since you always come to him first.

you nod your head at his question, your eyes fixed on the ground. your shoulders are shaking and kazuha can see crystal tears dropping from your eyes onto the floor. you've stopped crying out loud for reasons beyond him, and that's probably the thing kazuha hates the most. the only reason why he sounds a little annoyed is because he had no idea you'd been standing outside for so long; you didn't make a sound somehow, and it bothers your brother that you'd been stewing in your pain for so long by yourself.

"sorry, kazu'," you sniff and wipe your sleeve over your eyes. "i didn't wanna wake you up this time."

ah. so you wanted to just climb into bed with him without waking him. what kind of child thinks like this? what could possibly be tormenting you so badly that you're thinking in such a way?

kazuha sighs quietly and lifts you into his arms with a quiet grunt. he chuckles quietly when you cling to him the way you always did. "i don't mind you waking me up." he tells you quietly. "i'm always up when you come in, aren't i?" you don't answer, instead burying your face in his shoulder. you're still shaking. kazuha brings you to his bed, lays you down, and sits beside you, his hand petting your hair. "will you tell me what your nightmare was about this time?"

you pull his blankets up over your shoulders. "nuh-uh." your eyes are still dewy from earlier. "too scary. don't wanna talk about it."

kazuha wipes any stray tears from your face. "are you sure? maybe talking about it will make it go away."

"no!" your face scrunches like you're going to cry again and kazuha hushes you, leaning down to hug you. "i w-wanna sleep," your voice shakes, "can-- can i sleep here again?"

"you're already under the covers." kazuha points out.

"y-you gotta lay down too. that's the rule."

kazuha snorts, but does as you say. "and who came up with that rule?" you waste no time cuddling close to him and he rubs little circles into your back. "i didn't make that rule."

"i did." you mutter into his shirt. "just now." there's a little pause before you ask: "can you hum the song again? please?"

kazuha's been humming a strange tune to you these days; one that neither of you really know the lyrics or origins of. it came to him one night during a thunderstorm to keep you calm and you've been asking for it ever since. it works surprisingly well, kazuha found, since you fell asleep after mere minutes. it was a little weird to him since his voice always sounded funny so late at night, but if it meant you would stop crying...

your brother pulls you a bit closer to him so your head is pressed against his chest -- you've mentioned before that you like it there a lot -- and starts to hum for you. kazuha combs his fingers through your hair and works out any knots he may catch, giggling a little when you grumble at him to stop. "your hair is a mess." he comments.

"you gotta hum!" you whine.

"alright, alright." kazuha snickers. he doesn't pester you anymore. he'd hoped he'd at least get you to laugh along with him, but it seems like he'd have to try again another night. after a few more minutes of humming, he hears a quiet snort; you've fallen asleep. your hold on your brother hasn't loosened much, so he doesn't bother to try and move.

he sighs and keeps rubbing circles on your back. "i hope your nightmares go away." he mutters. "far, far away." he's not sure who he's talking to, but maybe they'll actually go away if he wishes hard enough. he'll find out come morning time; until then, your brother hums his song for you until he's tired himself out as well, his wish for your peaceful sleep being heard by the moon the blankets the two of you.

Honestly, any Ryuji/Phantom Thief ship combination is a recipe for adorable in my opinion?

Joker and Ryuji are best friends so you’d have that interesting friends to lover arc and that ‘oh shit! am i actually developing feelings for my bro?!’ sort of moment.

Ann and Ryuji are another couple that I feel would slide together easily since I honestly feel like they’re two of the more closer members, having been there from the start and having directly gone through trauma together - with them a progression from friends to lovers doesn’t feel so unrealistic.

Yusuke and Ryuji would be really cute because lord knows Yusuke needs someone to buy him food and take care of him and I feel like although Ryuji does find him and his habits to be a little odd, he never judges Yusuke or makes him feel weird or like a freak for it.

Ryuji’s totally got a crush on Makoto after her awakening - a girl who’s a complete badass and has a Persona motor bike?? Yes please.  Also their showtime in P5R is just 👌.

Haru and Ryuji gardening together would also just be about the most adorable thing in the world - clumsy but gentle Ryuji learning how to handle little flowers and spending lots of time with Haru? Again, yes please. 👌

...Akechi and Ryuji would make a fun hateship - also just the angst would be 😩 some good shit right there. 👌

I don’t really have anything to say about Kasumi since I’m still finishing the vanilla game but I love her and I’m pretty sure I’ll ship her with Ryuji - she’s a bae. 👌
