Believing Jesus was dead for good, the disciples went back to their old jobs.
After his resurrection, Jesus went to see how they were doing. Standing on the shore, Jesus yelled out, "Hey, have you caught anything yet?" Nothing all night," they yelled back. "Try your net on the other side of the boat." The disciples said, " Well, it can't hurt." Suddenly, their net was filled with fish, big fish, 153 big fish!!
Now, Peter was a professional fisherman, and he instantly knew that was too good to be true. That would take a miracle, a miracle like the one when he first met the Master.
"That's the Lord!" John blurted out. but Peter was already jumping overboard, swimming to shore, leaving the others to deal with the heavy haul of fish.
On the shore, Jesus had breakfast ready, and no one had to ask, "Is that really you?" They knew, and Jesus opened their eyes to how all the things written before about him had to come to pass.
(Paraphrase of John 21)
Question: What is the significance of 153 fish in this event?

The gospel of John has the story of the 153 fish caught. The 153 fish are a picture of the completed church.
John 21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
Rebekah is used 1 time in the NT and has a gematria of 153.
Romans 9:10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one even by our father IsaacRebekah is also a picture of the bride of Christ, the church.
The builder of the tabernacle is Bezaleel. He is a picture of Christ, the builder of the Church, the house of God. Bezaleel has a gematria of 153.
Exodus 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
“the Passover” has a gematria of 153 also.
Exodus 12:21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
Jesus is the Passover lamb slain for us so that we can become a new creation and be part of the house of God that He is building. I believe the above connection of 153 is very clear.
My assumption has always been that the verse jump from Rebekah’s only mention with gematria of 153 to the 153 fish being caught is important if they are a type of each other. John 21:11 is verse 26910 and Romans 9:10 is verse 28166. The difference is 1256.
Strong’s H1256 Beraiah = "Jehovah has created"
Romans 9:10 (only mention of Rebekah) is verse 2937 from the end of thee Bible.
Strong’s G2937=creation as used in this verse -
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
So Christ the Passover died to build His Church made up of a new creation through what He did. We are a new creation. We have died with Christ as Paul says -
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
John 21:11 and the 153 fish is verse 4193 from the end.
Strong’s H4193 = death and is used 1 time:
Ezra 7:26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
I hope you see the connection. Whoever does not do the law of God must die. Christ died for us and took our punishment, but we symbolically died also. We are a new creation with the power of God living within us.
To further cement Ezra 7:26 being tied to the 153 fish, it is verse 12200. I looked at the mathematical properties of the number 153 on Wikipedia found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/153_(number)
According to the Bible Wheel data base, there are two verses in the Bible that have a word in them valued at 2190:
John 21:11
"Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken."
Roman's 11:25
"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in."
Paul says that the partial blindness on Israel, and the end of the Gentile Age, is a mystery that he didn't want his readers to be ignorant of. Israel's partial blindness ends when a predetermined (fullness) number of Gentiles come into the Kingdom.
My conclusion re this mystery:
John 21:11 and Roman's 11:25 are recounting the same event.
The 153 fish dragged out of the sea are symbolic of the full number of the Gentiles to come into the kingdom.
I have theorized for years that the haul of the mega fish is the Catching Away (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17), terminating the Age of the (primarily Gentile) Church.
Also of note is that the 2190 valued word in both verses is the 17th word, and that the 17th triangle number = 153.
Daniel is given this directive at the end of his famous Biblical book of prophecy:
Daniel 12:4
“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
I believe most well known prophecy teachers when dissecting this verse would agree that the two characteristics of the “time of the end”, namely “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” pertain to our timeline now. The events of the 20th and 21st century (so far) match this description, being worldwide swift travel and acquisition of knowledge, now through the internet.
Looking at the total gematria verse value Daniel 12:4 yields additional info, imho. That numerical total is:
4479
Crossing number systems, Strong’s 4479 greek word =
Rebekah
Her name is found only once in the New Testament, and that is in Romans 9:10
“And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one even by our father Isaac;”...
Rebekah is the wife of Isaac, the “son of the promise”. Isaac is the best prophetic type of Jesus as the miraculous firstborn son. So, it is reasonable then to conclude that Rebekah is the best prophetic type of the Bride of Christ. (See Will Schumaker’s articles re Rebekah on this blog).
The numerical value of Rebekah’s name in greek =
153
Letting the Bible interpret itself, John 21:11 reads thus:
“Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.”
My personal opinion is that this last great catch of mega-fish is the prophetic forerunner event of the Catching Away found in 1 Thessalonians 4:17.
This might then reasonably indicate that the “book” Daniel shut is reopened at the Catching Away of the Bride, the event commonly known as the Rapture of the Church.
Rebekah = 153 = Fish = caught out of the sea (type of the gentiles, Rebekah was Syrian).
Here is where the actual last days “Catching Away” is in the Bible:
1 Thessalonians 4:17
" Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
Harpazo is the greek word for "caught up" with an in-text value of:
518
518 = 37 x 14
That tells you something right off!
37 is the divine number used in the Lord's own name of 2368 which is:
Jesus (888) which is 37 x 24.
Christ (1480) which is 37 x 40.
888 + 1480 = 2368
37 is the base prime for the total hebrew gematria High Priest's Breastpiece of 3700, i.e. The sum of all of the gematria of the 12 stones, which are tribes of Israel.
37 is one of the base primes for Genesis 1:1 (2701 = 37 x 73)
yes, 37 is in many Bible words, but it is notable that it is in this passage.
****
The thing, though, that is the most notable to me about the 518 number is this little bit of addition:
365 + 153 = 518
There's some theology in that equation.
365 is how old Enoch was when he was "taken". Enoch appears to be the forerunner "type" of the Catching Away in Genesis 5.
153 is the famous number of "mega" fish that were counted after they were taken out of the sea in John 21:11. It is my understanding that "fish out of the sea" is a reference to gentiles.
I have written several times over the years that I thought that the 153 fish miracle is the Catching Away of the gentile believers, of which most of the Church is made up. I have also speculated that these fish represent a leadership group, due to the specific mention of their size, and the specific number.
You might remember that Paul wrote in Romans 11:25 that Israel was partially blinded until the "fullness of the Gentiles comes in".
The implication is that a specific number of Gentiles would be saved.
In today’s Gospel, we hear, “So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large fish.” Scholars have speculated on all kinds of reasons for the number “153.” It is perhaps simply the number that was there, it might be the number of known fish species in the world (at that time), or perhaps the number of known nations. Who knows. (more…)
