The Evolution of Modern Day Gillovny (2008-2012)
The year was 2008 and David and Gillian had just finished filming I Want to Believe:
They did some interesting interviews:
And had some, um, unique red carpet moments:
Did a Comic Con Together:
In 2010, the rebirth of Gillovny was solidified when she came from London to see his play in NYC:
2012 was quite an exciting year for these two dummies. Which began with this:
Evan Handler was David’s good friend and co-star and Californication.
And that tweet was promptly deleted. A few weeks later, on August 9th, 2014, this story hit the gossip pages in a major way:
Why does August 9th sound familiar to me? Oh, that’s right:
A few days before, on August 7th, 2014 Gillian announced her separation from her partner, Mark:
And August 7th seems really familiar to me as well...
So how did the 2012 rumors get started? It wasn’t just random gossip blogs that were reporting the news, but some major outlets as well. We know that Gillian (and her kids, I believe) were in LA in the summer of 2012. The assumption was that someone was able to take pictures of them together at David’s rented house, possibly in the pool. It was the potential evidence that fueled the rumors, until David (and Gillian’s) lawyers were able to shut it down. But how could that happen? Here’s one explanation from back in 2008 on an anonymous gossip blog (which cover/ed big gossip stories and is in no way related to XF or David/Gillian). Again, this was in 2008:
David has an amazing team of lawyers/PR, which is why the fall out from his stay in rehab was fairly minimal. No Tiger Woods type drama. There was a “tennis instructor” who supposedly had an affair with David and sold her story to the tabloids, but she was completely shut down and recanted everything she said.
And so a denial was issued and everyone stuck to the script - for the most part...
In an interview with the Guardian in 2012, Gillian showed some insight:
I: There was much excitement a couple of months ago when a gossip website reported that you and Mulder were secretly together. Is there any truth in that?
G: You mean me and David, romantically? No, there wasn’t any truth in that. I was enjoying the ludicracy [sic] of it for a while, but then he started denying it publicly and so I lost all my enjoyment of it.
I: You’ve broken several million X-Phile hearts.
G: I know. I emailed him at one point and said: “You left the toilet seat up again.”
Gillian Anderson, The Guardian, Oct 25 2012
So as 2012 was coming to a close, it seemed unlikely that we would be seeing much more of David and Gillian together. And then there was 2013...
