I love this game the models are so ugly the clothes are abysmally hideous, the colors of most things are either bland or oversaturated, but at the same time, nothing beats joyriding around Ibiza and Oahu while GPS yells at you "you're driving in the wrong direction. please turn around when possible" every 17.5 microseconds

51. Portal 2

Release: 2011, PC/PS3/Xbox 360 Beaten: September 30th, PC (Steam) Playtime: 5h 25m

It holds up. Majorly. The game is still as visually stunning as it was when I played it... fuck, 12 years ago. I physically felt my stomach sink during some visual moments, looking out at Aperture Science and its endless pits, its miles of indistinguishable machines, its acres of wires and overgrowth and abandoned chambers. The writing is a constant, impressive balancing act between heartfelt, sad, disturbing, and absurdly, ridiculously, insanely funny. It, of course, pulls it off. Every aspect of this game works perfectly in tandem and it all adds up to one of the best video games I've ever had the luxury of playing. I'm really gassing this up, but God, this game is good.

My top 3s of the Year

Ok, it's officially the end of 2011 so I think it prudent to do a little end of year wrap up.  One was too few for some of these categories, and five far too many, so you're getting my top 3 movies, books, albums, and games of 2011.

Movies:

There were a lot of really great movies in 2011.  From some spectacular superhero flicks to some intense dramas, it was a decent year for movies.  My top 3 are:

1. The Muppets

This comedy was damn funny.  I wasn't so sure going into it, but it is definitely my favorite comedy of the year.  I don't ever buy DVDs anymore, but I'm probably buying this.

2. X-Men First Class

Yeah, Thor and Captain were great.  And yeah, this movie makes NO sense in regards to either the comic universe of the preexisting X-Men trilogy, but it's still such a fun ride I have to put it here.

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two

This was my least favorite of the recent HP films.  It seemed rushed, it was super short, and it left out a whole lot.  That said, it was still the epic conclusion to one of the greatest book adaptations (especially in terms of a series) that the motion picture world has ever seen, and I have to give it props.

Books:

19Q4

Murakami's epic take on 19Q4 is, well, so very Murakami.  I'm not done with it yet (as it bears some serious heft and I've been busy), but I can already promise that this is one of the most interesting books you will ever read.

Locke and Key 4: Keys to the Kingdom

This graphic novel series continues to surprise me with every volume, and that in and of itself is a feat.  I find myself really caring about this fictional family and I feel more apprehension knowing what danger lies around the next corner for them than I have with any horror movie in a long while.

Ghost Story:

The latest Dresden Files book was simply amazing in my opinion.  Continuing where the last book ended, it managed to take a series that was on the verge of becoming stale and repetitive and injected it with a nice dose of fresh ideas.  I really liked this book, I'm quite glad I can say that once again this series is at the top of my reading list.

Albums:

Ceremonials

Following up the monumental breakthrough album, Florence (as well as the machine, of course) hits with an album that is moody, fresh, and heavily emotional.  Her voice is haunting, her melodies superb, and while this album took a little longer to grow on me than the last, I now love it all the same.

People and Things

Jack's Mannequin's new album totally caught me off guard.  From the first song, this album has a much different feel than the last (which, to be fair, was very different than the first).  I love the evolution of Andrew McMahon since his days with Something Corporate, and I love the choices this band has made. Needless to say, I totally dig the direction this album takes.  At times poppy, at times folky, but always just so damn good, check this one out.

I'm pretty sure I don't need to include this one as much as the last in terms of justifying my choices, but this lady is amazing.  Almost every track on this album is near perfect, and Adele's voice is one of the most powerful of her generation.  This album has gained so much recognition, and while details of her throat ailment and surgery remain somewhat scarce, I wish Adele a full recovery, as she is an artist that could become an icon for a generation.

Games:

Skyrim

I can't even begin to describe how amazing the world of this game is.  This is the most fully realized world of any game.  EVER.  I'm not just saying this out of love, that is the general critical reception of this game.  Despite many glitches (that have been somewhat patched since launch), Skyrim is one of the most amazing gaming experiences that has ever been created.  This is a game I could spend years playing and still not discover everything.

Uncharted 3

Taking things in a bit of a different direction, the single player campaign of Uncharted 3 is quite short, but oh so amazing.  Nathan Drake is the man Indiana Jones wishes he could be.  From fisticuffs to last second escapes from burning buildings, sinking cruise ships, and crashing planes, Uncharted 3 is by far the most cinematic game I have ever seen.  The multiplayer is also great, offering a fun and evolving experience.

Portal 2

Portal 2 is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had with a game.  After spending so much time trying to wrap my head around certain puzzles and failing so may times, the absolute thrill that comes from catapulting from portal to portal, over bouncy goop and across a chasm is something remarkable.  The multiplayer maps also offer something unique, with some of the most complex yet fundamentally simple puzzles in games.  Plus, GLaDOS just never gets old.  This game is fun, challenging, and so hilarious.  The voice actors for GLaDOS, Wheatley, the turrets, and all the other little automatons just make this game one of the absolute best.

LoZ: Skyward Sword

I am not going to get it this year but I am most likely playing this game! Why? My friend is getting it for Christmas I can wait til she finish the game. :V This is why i love her she let me borrow some of her games unless she want the game 100% complete. 

I have a list for most wanted games I really need to buy my own. All 2011 games are meh I feel like borrowing it. Some of the games AC:revelations , UMvC3, Uncharted 3, Legend of Zelda, Batman arkham city and more is not going to be worth to buy for me. They are all good but I need to spend 60 dollars that will keep me playing more and more. If one of my friends don't have these games I can watch walkthrough. If they do hey I am borrowing it and also my brother is getting AC: revelations and Batman arkham city so I am good.

Now games today are really short seriously.

Sly cooper 4 and Skullgirls are my most must buy game for 2012 on my list.

Sonic Generations demo play through on PS3 Just a quick playthrough of both the classic Sonic and modern Sonic 'Green Hill Zone'. I play it like a bouncy ball playing twister.

Upcoming Games in 2011

discovering which games where going to come out this year was more exciting than discovering internet porn.. really it was.

 The big ones are Batman: Arkham City in October and Assassins Creed: Revelations in November , click the links for game play footage. Both these games are the sort of bad assed "YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" games, Ones of which I can't say no to buying, which worries me quite a bib as money isn't easy right now, my printer is broke.

Within December, we have Bioshock: Infinite, which is likely the last game i'm really excited about , the rest will have to pleasantly surprise me. I'll write blogs on these games and any other ones which tickle me.
