I knew it was coming, but man... this is so messed up. Karkat loved that crab - and to rub salt in the wound, Hussie just had to put his little drawing in this panel, too.
Crabdad isn’t permanently dead - the Kernelsprite is right there - but just like with Dream Jade, that doesn’t really help the guy who found the body. Death is still death, even if it’s temporary.
Karkat and his friends and everyone they would ever meet thereafter would experience great misfortune on account of the curse unwittingly implemented through Sollux's esoteric MOBIUS DOUBLE REACHAROUND VIRUS.
God, that’s so funny. I spent forever trying to figure out what that code would do, but Sollux didn’t even know himself. He just fucked around with a dangerous language and got burned.
‘MOBIUS DOUBLE REACHAROUND’ (lol) certainly sounds like it describes the gridlock situation I was talking about before. Each thread locks the other, and some unknown feature of ~ATH causes this gridlock to have a material effect on the world around it.
Every troll's lusus would soon die. All but one of their kernelsprites would be prototyped with a dead lusus, each prior to entering the Medium.
We already know that Karkat and (probably) Terezi have lusus sprites. If I had to guess who wasn’t going to prototype theirs, I’d say Gamzee, whose lusus is never around.
Upon entry, they would each have a bittersweet reunion with the creature after the kernel hatched, triggering the sprite's metamorphosis.
For the first time, the trolls would be able to have verbal conversations with their custodians, and would be guided by them along their journeys.
It sounds like the sprite’s post-entry ‘metamorphosis’ is what grants them their intelligence. Jaspersprite was able to help Rose out before she entered, but that might have just been instinct.
Putting an animal in the kernel usually results in a less-than-coherent sprite, but lusii are more than just animals. My guess is that the lusus sprites are more helpful than Jaspers, but not quite as articulate as, say, Davesprite.
