Taemin looked so good

He sat there pouting, stirring a crappy mixed drink with too much vodka in it. He’d agreed to go to this wedding with Taemin because he was a good friend, because Taemin promised to not leave his side, and also because he was pretty much in love with the younger boy. It’s not that he didn’t want to go, he just didn’t feel like attending a wedding reception as his ‘date’ as Taemin had phrased it. He didn’t want to go on a ‘date’ especially if it wasn’t for an actual date.

Taemin was currently on the dance floor. He was doing a line dance with a ton of his relatives, as his cousin had gotten married and his entire family was there. Minho watched the younger boy carefully, not missing a kick, a sway of the hips, and definitely not missing the sudden eye contact between them both.

Minho froze, was he just caught watching Taemin? Was Taemin creeped out? Should Minho just go wait in the car for Taemin to be done?

Taemin smirked and threw a party in his head when he noticed the older boy watching him dance with his family. He must care to some degree, right? Taemin approached Minho, who was still panicking internally. “Minho! Come on! Dance with me!” He said, grabbing Minho by the arm and dragging him onto the dance floor, just as the line dance music was ending.

Taemin waited for the next song to start, and screamed quietly in his head as the music turned out to be a slow song. Minho chuckled when he saw Taemin’s confident air falter a bit. He took the younger around the waist and pulled him close. Taemin hesitantly wrapped his arms around Minho’s neck, clasping his hands together behind the elder, and they fell into a quiet step, holding each other tightly and each of them savoring the moment.

“Minnie-hyung~! Wakey wakey~!”

Minho groaned, rolling over in the bed only to realise that his fiancé wasn’t there. Carefully opening his eyes to the gleam of morning light, he checked with his sight to confirm that the other side of the bed was in fact empty. “Tae? Where are you?” He grumbled, rolling to his front and rising on his elbows, hair thoroughly ruffled from sleep and eyes feeling droopy.

“Kitchen~, come on out or breakfast will get cold~!”

Grumbling to himself, Minho reached over the edge of the bed and found a pair of jeans to pull on – only to discover that the shirt he’d been wearing was nowhere to be seen. Too lazy to get another from the wardrobe he dragged his feet towards the kitchen in their modest little apartment. “You’re cooking?” He muttered, catching a whiff of pancakes and maple syrup.

“Yesum.” Taemin replied, not turning from the stove as he flipped a pancake in the pan. “Your favourite.”

It was then that Minho looked at his slim lover and nearly groaned at the sight. So that’s where his shirt had gone to. When they had met many years ago, Taemin had been so small that using one of Minho’s shirts made him look like he lived on the streets. He soon filled out the shirts a little more in terms of height and build – he joined his boyfriend at the gym and even now that they were engaged continued to work out twice a week just so he didn’t go back to being the lanky kid he used to be. The shirt Minho had been wearing the day before wasn’t exactly the longest he owned – rising up over his stomach when he lifted his arms – so when Taemin who was shorter than Minho wore the shirt it just didn’t cover everything.

“Taemin-ah.”

“Hmm?” Taemin asked, turning with question in his eyes and a little flour on his cheeks.

Chuckling, Minho stepped over and wrapped his arms around Taemin, lifting the boy off the ground a little with the younger’s arms around his shoulders. “Good morning, beautiful.” He whispered, feeling Taemin’s bare stomach brushing against his. That only meant one thing. “Didn’t bother with anything else, huh?” He teased, reaching a hand down to grope at Taemin bare buttocks.

“Yah!” Taemin hissed, used to this treatment over many years. He whacked Minho with his spatula until the older male reluctantly put him down. “Don’t even think about it. We both have work today so you better not get any funny ideas.” He stated firmly, turning back to the pan to take off the finished pancakes.

Minho wasn’t having any of this however, wrapping his arms around the boy from behind and reached down towards the hem of the shirt. “We have plenty of time, Taemin-ah.” He whispered, kissing down the back of his neck.

Taemin let out a little whine, but once those deft fingers are wrapped around him there really was no argument.

"what if I told you that I love you?" taemin asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. his eyes were stubbornly fixed on the sand beneath his feet, and his words were lacking the confidence they usually held. "because I do. I--"  "stop it, taemin." minho's cold words caught him offguard, and their eyes locked in a moment of tension. "don't say it. we're different people, and after tomorrow, we'll both be gone. we're going to have to say our goodbyes. stop being a child about it." "fuck you, hyung," taemin bit back, no longer quiet or shy- just angry. "don't say that shit to me," he snapped, though his voice broke pathetically on the last note. just the same, he felt himself breaking. they could have had sex hundreds of times, spent every day together, and he still didn't know if minho loved him or not. he couldn't play these games anymore. he was all but screaming with desperation for minho to say he didn't want him to leave either. because anything else would mean it had just been a summer fling, and nothing more. but minho stood, ready to leave. only taemin's sudden grip on his hand stopped him from walking away- made him rethink what he was doing. yes, he could have told taemin that he loved him, but in the end, they couldn't be together. he would probably love taemin forever, but he wouldn't let the younger boy face the same pain. he would let him go. "I don't love you."
