Day 60/61: Your mind, your prison. Yesterday, I found myself in the company of old and new friends and the topic of Ayahuasca come up. Let’s call her Anja said she would love to do it but she can’t. I asked her why? She said, it’s not for me, I don’t like throwing up, I don’t like feeling sick, etc. I responded no one does, it’s not necessarily a pleasant journey but that’s where its power lies on. We don’t learn when things are good, we learn when things are difficult, the same applies to this medicine. Then she went on to explain what’s wrong with Ayahuasca, how it is dangerous, etc. I asked her how she knows all these things and she said that she has been told and read a lot about it. I said how can you talk about something you have not experienced, how do you know? She said I know. I responded you believe you know but you really don’t. Then she said, I’m on your side, I want to do it but I really can’t. As I was listening to this contradiction that Anja was expressing in the very same sentence - even once literally saying that she wants to and the next second she doesn’t want to - I started getting tense. I have no gain whether she would be doing Ayahuasca or not yet I could not help it pointing out that she’s standing in her own way. This was not about Ayahuasca or not this was about saying I really want to and then coming up with excuses why you can’t. It felt important to point this out to her. Yet she did not want to hear it so the tension in the room increased. We were triggering each other as we likely also spoke about different things. For me it was a frustrating that a) I was misunderstood in what I tried to show her and b) that she could not see how she is holding competing beliefs that are holding her back to do the very same thing she wanted to do. Day 51-59: Powerful beyond measure. More precisely: You are powerful beyond measure! And the only thing that’s standing in between you and living up to your potential is you. The moment you realise and embrace it, you can start to unleash your full potential which in turn will make you come alive in a way you’ve rarely or never experienced. The reality is, most of us live average lives. And I’m not saying that in a judging way but just as an observation. And what I hope to leave you with by the end of this post is you and we all can live incredibly enriching, empowering, beautiful, heart opening lives. We are all special in the best sense of the word but we get out educated and conditioned out of it throughout our early lives which leaves us not even being able to see our own inner and innate genius that we all have. And genius is not an IQ genius though it can be, it is the fact that you are unique - again in the best sense of the word not the egotistical or hedonistic one. You are unique as in only you have the combination of your experiences, perspectives, upbringing, passions, skills, even handicaps that no-one else has. That gives you a way of looking at the world like no one else. And that again predisposes you to do something better and more passionately than anybody else. And that is the very thing or the very things that you want to discover because not only will you do them better than anybody else, you will also be more passionate about them than anyone else and hence work will not feel like work. It took me two decades to find it though most of the time I was not looking. And today, when I coach people or I work on our new startup (the reason you haven’t seen many posts of me) I never work. Day 45-47: The inconvenient truth. Yesterday, I attended a dinner of new and old friends where we talked about consciousness, truth, well-being, spirituality, the soul, life, happiness and the current crises. To all of us it was clear, given the information we have explored and looked into, that what currently happening in the world makes little sense. Today, I found myself in a WhatsApp discussion with another group of friends of mine around the current crises, sharing some of the information I have found that completely changed my perception of this crises vs a newsletter that I had written less than six months ago. As often in discussions where the camps and opinions are clearly formed, there is no point in really having them. If someone has a certain opinion they rarely or ever like their opinion to be changed by people showing them facts. It’s just not how we are wired because socially it was dangerous for a group to work if people where not reliant on terms of what they stand for. So it is something that’s deeply ingrained in us. And it’s something that creates this crisis in the first place because we are fed a certain narrative by the media - and I thought I would never say that - and it is just a narrative. We are presented cases instead of talking about deaths. We are not shown who is actually dying - which is by 99% only old people, people that are already sick, people that are already in the process of dying, people that are already in hospital, people that are above age 65 and have some health conditions. Everyone else has a minute chance of dying - just like they would have a minute chance of dying from the flu. And then there are these measures when we have to wear a mask and when we don’t have to. They are so inconsistent and there is no scientific basis for them. And then there are the opinion of people who challenge what we are doing that are suppressed by the media. Day 42/43: Childhood and psychopaths. We are all a bit crazy or insane no matter how much we like to think differently. Only the degree of it varies and it varies a lot. We are a product of our circumstances, mostly of our childhood. Most if not all the troubles of life are created there. And as a society we royally fuck this up, the way we educate and bring up our children is pure insanity and it is getting worse: Screentime/iPad/iphone for a four year old didn’t exist a decade ago - instead it was creative playtime in nature. And now it’s prevalent. Today, I met a friend who shared with me her story about her ex who completely went crazy on her. He’s not only her ex but also her business partner. From one day to the next, he didn’t want her in his life anymore, changed the locks and pushed her out of the business that they created together. First she was in shock and didn’t understand what was going on. Then little by little she pieced together what was going on. She identified that he is suffering from malignant narcism which is similar to being a psychopath: Thinking about the grandeur pof oneself, being manipulative and having no empathy are some of the cornerstones. I know some people in my life that are psychopaths. At the beginning I could not figure out why they are in one moment very charming and the next they treat you like shit despite nothing seemingly changed. I saw them make their girlfriends cry all the time until they finally left them. We think those people only exist in textbooks but they are actually quite frequent. Something like 3 out of a 100 people - with varying degrees - and 10 out of a 100 in leadership roles. Day 38: On being in your heart. Today, I had a WhatsApp conversation with a friend about my journey. I asked him whether he had any feedback for me and he said: “I would love to hear you write more from the heart. At the moment it seems quite intellectual. But maybe it’s just my perception.” It’s something I am aware of and I appreciate it being pointed out to me as it is a constant “struggle.” Not struggle as in fight but because my entire career and success has been largely built on intellectual prowess and using it to succeed in life it’s my main modus operandi. It doesn’t help that our society celebrates cerebral people with a focus on the left hemisphere - logic, rationality, reason, science and not creativity, feeling, heart, connection, humanity. Our whole Western society is modelled on that “enlightenment” of reason which actually turns out to be very unenlightened in isolation as we can see in how the world is developing. And even those few lines so far have been written from the intellect. It’s my race horse. And it has also allowed me to make big changes in my life by questioning things and thereby actually getting more in touch with my heart, my knowing, my intuition, where life pulls me, connecting more deeply with others. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m actually struggling to write differently. The way I write and share is the way I look at the world. And I’d argue that even though it sounds intellectual, there is actually a lot or increasingly heart in it. Just because you use logic and reason to make a point doesn’t mean the underlying motivation doesn’t come from the heart. The two don’t have to be opposites or contradictory. I’d argue we are at our best when we combine the heart and mind, we let the heart steer us but we used the mind to be more powerful at what we do. I’d like to think that by writing in a logical/rational/intelectual manner I can reach people that would not be open to a more heart based/spiritual language. Day 37: Why you want to own Bitcoin. The following post is no financial advise. As with this whole journey, I am simply sharing my insights and truths. Do you own research. Every investment carries risk and Bitcoin can be classified as a high risk asset. With that out of the way, early this morning European time Bitcoin crossed the long anticipated $12k mark and appreciated by 6% today as of this writing. Many of you are likely to look at Bitcoin suspiciously as just another casino where the foolish play. I want to use this opportunity of Bitcoin’s new recent high to make the case for Bitcoin and why everyone should have at least a little invested in it. Yes, Bitcoin has been worth much more nut I’d argue that the 2017 ATM >$19k was driven by a complete speculative frenzy and that today is very different. Bitcoin has since proven it’s continued resilience and - 11 years into the making - keeps being never successfully compromised and attacked despite it having a current “market capitalisation” of $200 billion. Bitcoin is being secured by cryptology and it’s ability to withstand an attack is a function of the computing (hash) power that stands behind it. Despite it’s price being a lot lower than it’s 2017 peak, it’s hash rate (how many key computations it can make per second) has increased 14 times in three years from 10 Tera hash (Oct 2017) to 140 TH right now (1 TH/sec = 1,000,000,000,000 hashes/second). It is thereby the most powerful computer on earth which is what keeps it secure because you would need a computer network that is just as powerful to compromise Bitcoin’s integrity. And even if you had a budget of 10’s of billions of dollar to compromise its security you would not be able to acquire all the hardware that is necessarily to build that attack network. It is therefore literally the most secure way to hold your money. Bitcoin can’t be attacked, can’t be censored, can’t be compromised no matter your resources. Day 36: On not being ready. Today, I went for a walk in the park with a new friend. She was telling me how she has been thinking about moving from finance into coaching, that she’s really passionate about psychology and helping people but she would not want to do it now because she’s not ready and the time is not right. I asked her what that means and she said she would need to study psychology and I asked her why’s that? To be a therapist you need to do that. I said but you can become a coach and start helping people now instead and possibly much more powerfully than as a therapist. Then she said but I need to do an NLP course and a proper coaching course and I said, yes, of course, that can be helpful but you don’t need to do any of that, you can simply start helping people, the people that want your help, that already ask for your advise. If you can help someone you are already doing what you want to do. Then she said but I don’t think I have enough life experience and again, I looked at her and said: What makes you think that? You had a professional career and are in your late thirties what do you mean you don’t have enough life experience. This is a beautiful example of both the imposter syndrome - believe one is not good enough based on their own high internal bar though probably much better qualified than many people who are doing the very thing she wants to do - as well as procrastination because of the uncertainty of how it all would unfold and being comfortable - though not satisfied - in the current setup. In short, they are all excuses both made up and actually believed based on the stories we are telling ourselves. It’s our ego “protecting” us from uncertainty that we are so very afraid of and it makes us fail to see all the upside and possibilities that change can bring. It’s the reason why so many people stay stuck in places they know they don’t want to be and often they even know where they want to be but they just don’t have the guts to pull the trigger for all the aforementioned and other reasons. Day 35: Health vs sickcare: Today, I ended up having an exchange with a friend around nutrition when she shared a health issue that forced her to have to eat a specific and healthy diet. I asked her what it was and then asked whether she’d be open to me sharing what I think the underlying cause could be. Something I’ve only come to appreciate after immersing myself in the health topic learning from an incredible holistic MD who is bridging the old and the new in medicine and spirituality. It’s been a mind blowing journey where I’ve learnt that all chronicle diseases have their origins in emotional conflicts and trauma. These things can be recent or decades ago. When she told me what organ was involved I asked her whether she had a work related problem that stressed her and put her into survival mode. And bang, it was spot on. I’m still surprised every time that the connection is really that powerful and can be pinpointed so precisely. As a result, when the current health system wants to treat diseases it employs a symptom treatment approach. It never cures diseases like cancer, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune, gland mysfunctions, depression etc. That is because the root cause is not physical but emotional so no amount of insulin, statins, chemo, etc. will resolve the problem. It might work in fighting the disease, reducing its spread or even mostly get rid of it but it will often come at huge costs in the form of side effects and ultimately not cure the person but just reduce their suffering.
