She dreams about him sometimes.
A pretty young man, almost a boy, with curly dark hair like her own and the saddest dark eyes in the world.
She dreams of quiet conversation in daylight.
Her days are quiet and lonely now.
She dreams of hearing him scream and weep at night, in the now empty guest bedroom.
She doesn’t talk about these dreams. False memories, they called them in the treatment facility, and taught her to repress them, to replace them with real memories.
She needs to stay grounded in this reality, her husband reminds her.
