the real question is when is the 911 merchandising team releasing the official Bobby Nash legacy cookbook
posted this on twitter earlier but being donor conceived in the 9-1-1 fandom and watching the donor baby discourse go down is so fucking weird, because people either discuss it like the only important family is biological, or like biological relations don’t hold any importance at all. because like, man, in my experience it sort of depends? the man who raised me is 100% my dad, he’s genuinely the best, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t pleasant to talk to my biological father. i love my dad’s side of the family so much but that doesn’t mean i’m not very fond of my half-siblings who i’ve only known a few years. and i had a good experience! there are numerous others whose legal fathers are so insecure that raising ‘another man’s baby’ is impossible for them, and there are numerous others who had such a wonderful experience they’re not even curious about their biological father. i have 70 half-siblings (long story; clinic fucked up) and I know the names of a grand total of seven. two of them don’t know my name, and i’ve only actually talked to three. everybody’s experience is different.
that being said, it’s very off-putting to see people who aren’t even donor conceived (or adopted!) discuss the ‘maybe donor baby’-plot in an either/or way where only one thing can be true at a time. we don’t even know if donor baby will make a return, but everybody is discoursing about whether it’s horrible plot choice that doesn’t make sense, or fantastic because buck would have a child that’s his. both are weird things to say! you’re being weird! donor conception is an incredibly nuanced subject and you’re being weird about it!!
i famously dislike the sperm donation plot, but what i DID like about it in hindsight is that 9-1-1 presented conner & kameron’s behaviour as odd and invasive after buck agreed to donate. should donor baby be revisited and buck get custody of them (which i doubt, as the information came from someone who’s lied before, but let me entertain the speculation) i feel it’ll be treated somewhat carefully and present an opportunity to perhaps discuss unethical sperm donation in a digestible way—conflict and drama is at 9-1-1’s core, so it would never be easy and clear cut. like, denny had a whole plot about getting to know his biological father, with hen and karen having trouble handling that. should donor baby make a grand return, it will be fine. and in the meantime maybe simmer down if you have no idea what it’s like to be a donor conceived person or be adopted. thanks.
Athena telling coma!Buck that he needs to wake up because Bobby just lost Wendall and can’t lose someone else.
Athena telling coma!Tommy that he needs to wake up because Buck just lost Bobby and he can’t lose someone else?
I started rewatching 9-1-1 from season 5 because I feel like seasons 5,6 and 7 kind of blur together in a lot of ways for me and oh my god why is the show like this????
I feel like season 5 marks the beginning of the “wasted potential” era of the show. Taylor? Wasted potential. Nathalia??? Barely even a character. Jonah paramedic serial killer arc? Shoved into one episode and erased from history. The double whammy of Buck sperm donor crisis and Eddie having to confront Chris growing up. SO MUCH POTENTIAL HERE FOR BUCK AND EDDIE TO TALK ABOUT PARENTHOOD???? And yet nothing
I could go on. So many things that they set up and resolve way too quickly. Or things that they set up and then completely erase in the following seasons. I’m looking at you Eddie Diaz working through trauma for two seasons and then getting with the dead wife doppelgänger
Buck and Eddie really are made for each other because the writers are so clueless about what to do with either of them
it will never not be funny to me how bobby, maddie and eddie all looked at buck in the eye and said in their most serious tone “buck, you died” for this man to shrug and be like “so whatttt like yall haven’t died a few times before omggg” like pls 😭
