Aspec Glossary: Aplatonic
What is the Aspec Glossary?
Aplatonic (apl) is an aspec identity typically characterized by someone who experiences little to no platonic attraction.
Aplatonic is also the umbrella term for identities on the aplatonic spectrum (aplspec), such as greyplatonic, demiplatonic, aegoplatonic, etc.
Apls and aplspecs may:
Experience no platonic attraction
Experience little platonic attraction
Experience platonic attraction only under specific conditions
And/or experience platonic attraction in an otherwise non-normative way (as compared to someone who is alloplatontic)
Platonic attraction is an emotional urge or desire involving platonic feelings, which is not necessarily the same thing as wanting the reality of friendship. Attraction is not the same as action. For example, someone can experience platonic attraction without wanting to actually engage in a friendship, and someone can want a platonic relationship without experiencing platonic attraction.
Alloplatonic is the opposite of aplatonic. An alloplatonic person experiences what is considered a typical amount of platonic attraction.
Platonic attraction is essentially the feeling of "I want to be friends with that person."
Note: I am not aplatonic, so I apologize in advance if I have misunderstood anything or phrased something poorly.
