Day 4/30: Your favorite show ever -> Sherlock
The AGRA memory stick, the Pandora’s box
"If you love me, don’t read it in front of me.”
‘Mary’ gives John the memory stick and asks him not to read it in front of her. Because, if he does see what’s inside, there’ll be no turning back and he’ll unleash death and many other evils. “Because you won’t love me when you’re finished’.
The gods gave Pandora a box with the express warning of never opening the box.
But, unlike Pandora, John never opened it. Sherlock, however, couldn’t resist. He is Pandora.
KAITO KID: Better not [try to find my identity], just because you don’t know what’s in it, and want to open the Pandora’s box
CONAN: Idiot, knowing what is in the box before opening it... it is only being a detective.
Thank you Conan.
Detective lives trying to solve mysteries. And perhaps they shouldn’t open the pandora’s box, that doesn’t mean they’re not going to try to find out what’s inside. In fact, they only want to open it to find out if they were right, but they must because that’s only how they’ll know if their deductions were correct.
I suppose that means Pandora with her curiosity was the first detective.
The memory stick is a complete siren to Sherlock. Even if he cannot open it because that’s John’s call, he needs to know what’s inside.
And so if, like me, you are assuming TST is all in Sherlock’s head, it’s only natural that it comes back to haunt him as he tries to find the content.
What is AGRA? Is that really her initials? What about an acronym like H.O.U.N.D? In that case, what purpose would the memory stick hold? This is suicidal to have such key who apparently holds compromising information. Mutually assured destruction?
“I glanced at it but I prefer to hear it from you.”
Pandora also only took a peek at the box and immediately closed it.
However Mary’s saying and warning don’t register in his mind. There is nothing too compromizing to gather. We haven’t seen what he’s unleashed, what was so horrible that John can’t see without stopping loving Mary.
That’s because this isn’t real. This is what Sherlock thinks is inside, what his deductive powers have deduced.
Eventually, we’ll have to see the real AGRA. Only then will we know if he was right.
The AGRA treasure might have been empty in The Signs of Four, I have the feeling that this is absolutely not the case of that memory stick. Sherlock is going to unleash hell.
Just remember that inside there was also Hope.
A.G.R.A.
You made a vow.
John Watson to Sherlock Holmes, The Six Thatchers

OMGGGG did you watch the new sherlock episode yet?? what did u think?also *spoilerr alert** i couldnt stop giggling when john was grunting after agra died, i feel kinda bad but it was kinda ridiculous lol
!SPOILERS AHEAD!
YES and I have a lot of thoughts but I won’t post all of them on here. I will say this though: maybe it’s just me but almost everyone except maybe Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson seemed super out of character, and the ep felt really rushed in some places. It feels like this is more of a build up than an ep that makes a fair amount of sense on it’s own. Something about it seemed very off to me, slightly surreal. We’ll just have to wait and watch.
About that scene. It might seem like I’m “reading too much” into this, but lbr, the Sherlock fandom survives on meta and in-depth analysis and I don’t even have to dig for this scene.
You know, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on social media about how funny or awkward John’s reaction to Mary’s death was. And I feel glad to some extent that so many people relate to these posts, because it means that they have been fortunate enough to never experience or witness such a reaction firsthand.
Because John’s reaction was that of an animal in intense pain. It was visceral, real and downright heartbreaking. This is what it looks like when something causes you so much pain physically and mentally and emotionally that you aren’t able to articulate it into words. It is beyond comprehension. There are no tears or sobs, just helpless, desperate, guttural wailing or grunting. It sent chills down my spine, and maybe that puts me in the minority.
It is but natural to spontaneously react by expressing amusement when faced by something so odd, so strange, so foreign. There’s absolutely nothing wrong in feeling that way.
But it is certainly not something to be taken lightly. I’m seeing these memes floating around the web about this particular scene. When you jokingly liken it to the sound a dying whale would make, you’re actually hitting very close to the mark, because yes this is also a very primal, instinctive and quite involuntary response to an incredible amount of pain. There’s guilt and anger and grief.
And I feel really sad seeing people react this way, because it is actually one of the realest, most stunning pieces of acting I have ever seen. In a scene as sensitive as this one, it’s very easy for an actor to topple into overkill territory. But I think Martin was fucking brilliant, he really deserves that acknowledgement.
I mean who the fuck am I to tell you to stop making memes, or put on a show of emotional superiority? This is entertainment for everyone to enjoy and interpret in their own way.
I just wish more people would try to understand the depth and complexity of that scene without dismissing it as simply weird or hilarious. It is unsettling. Choose the right words. Give it the respect it clearly deserves.
