So, I'm in the AACIL discord server. I love AACIL, it is an amazing resource, and I benefit from it a lot. But, I feel very uncomfortable and very unsafe in it.

I'm radqueer. I'm part of the big 3. I'm a transabled person with BIID. All of those identities, I would never disclose in the AACIL community because of the environment that has been created in the server.

The AACIL server claims to be a safe place for anyone to request symbols they need for the AAC, free of judgement. And yet, I would never, EVER, request something relating to my radqueer, paraphile, or transabled identities. It seems like every day now I go on and I see people requesting symbols for "abolish transableds" or "fuck radqueers" etc, etc.

I have no issues with those types of symbols being requested; communication is a human right. I just feel uncomfortable that while symbols for transphobic phrases or ideas are censored, these are not.

If AACIL is truly a safe space for all AAC users and non-AAC users alike, there needs to be a way for people with "controversial" identities to exist and feel safe within the community.

This is in no way an attack on the moderators or admins of the AACIL discord server, or an attack on the people who have made the symbols I am referencing. Please be civil. OP uses it/it's pronouns only.

The AACil discord has a huge ableism problem. I don’t have the energy to get into it, I might later but just wanted to scream my thoughts into the void.
