I’m not all that mobile right now so I’m going to need to you imagine that I’ve climbed in the window of your home and am currently excitedly shoving this book in your face. Are you picturing it? Good, then we can begin.

“Alone and Palely Loitering” by Julien Stuart @acroamatica is an absolutely delightful read and you need it in your life. It’s sweet, emotional, and painful by turns with a perfect twist and fantastic moments of humour.

The gender neutral narrator is a balm I never knew I needed until I read it. I love urban fantasy but it sometimes has a habit of getting bogged down with boundaries and it was a relief to read something free of all that.

It’s a short little read, available on AO3 as well as Lulu, but it creates a world that you’re sad to leave. All my very favourite parts came after the twist and I don’t want to spoil it, but if you have a free hour you should give this story a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

It’s an orchestra AU, it has an intense nerdy vibe about classical music, good writing, a very good characterization and a very good playlist! Thanks again to the author to share that awesome piece of writing with us :)

soooooo @acroamatica, who continues to be too kind for mere words to express (they're my FRIEND, and they DROVE ME HERE) commissioned this piece from @m-oarts for me for Christmas and!!! it looks fucking amazing and I still can't believe it and just. wow. For those of you wondering, this is a recreation of the painting described in my kylux fic where the hedgerows slowly wind and this is, like, amazingly and eerily close to what was in my mind’s eye when I wrote that fic.....so much thanks to ju and the artist both because, well, wow.

3: What's your favorite line of narration?

They sit overlooking the sea.

Hux isn’t sure how he ended up here -- at the rocky beach with Ren, skipping class and skipping rocks.

“I missed you.”

“I know,” Hux says, remembering the interview, remembering skipping rocks and skipping class. Remembering the careful press of their first kiss that lingered on his lips for a decade. He missed Ren too. It’s so clear, now.

4: What's your favorite line of dialogue?

“What happened to your face?”

“What happened to yours? Or are we faulting poor genetics for that?”

“You’re bleeding.”

“I’m not.”

“Come here. Look, -- that’s blood.”

“Don’t touch me.”

“Just -- let me --?”

“Fine.”

11: What do you like best about this fic?

i think i explored a lot of my own emotions while writing this fic -- so that’s always cool. i think it bettered my writing and helped me a lot. i also think i won’t ever write anything quite as good again.

12. Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lot: SHEILA. @pangodillo has primary custody of this most perfect child, but i got to help develop her and i just love her. i love her so much. i don’t think Olli has posted any of the text they’ve written but i’ve already written fic about sheila. 

18. Any OC crackships? Okay, so, linus’ main source of income is ad clicks and donations/support for a blog he keeps about his everyday life, which most of his readers assume is fiction. as a result, the in-universe crackship of all crackships is LinChris. (i. i know. i know.) Kipper, who doesn’t understand fanfic, will at some point stumble across this and panic because how did chris find linus? where is mattie???? 

27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song? sort of? i have a song for literally every OC in the BCM universe (like. there’s one for Linus’ shitty first boyfriend. two, actually.) and a lot of details were hammered out through listening to songs and finding how they related to characters. linus is probably the most impacted, i was listening to a lot of Marina and the Diamonds while he was baking (”Obsessions” and “Hermit the Frog” explain a lot about my tiny son). (please ask me about songs relating to a particular character any time i have so many)

30. Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animal collection? Linus’ little closet nest slowly fills with stuffed things--a few from matt, but mostly from Kipper. he used to love them when he was younger but he got a lot of shit from his parents about wanting them, and all but his first stuffed toy (a bunny they gave him when they brought him home) has been thrown out. he doesn’t have the bunny, his mother does. he’s a little embarrassed about it, but he appreciates being able to have soft things to squeeze and rub on his face sometimes.

40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share! Working on their early development with @kevin-the-chicken was amazing--this was the first set of OCs i’d really fallen in love with, and i was daydreaming about them constantly and we would bounce ideas off of each other. they drew some very early art, and at the time everyone in my group chat was invested in the characters as well, watching the universe grow, and it was just a really great time to be creating. i really miss that time, actually.

46. Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly? Well i’m pretty sure i’ve never actually created a character who didn’t have some kind of tragedy in their backstory. i’ve always had a thing for angst and catharsis, and i’m apparently really bad at writing fluff with no bittersweetness or sorrow to it. i’m probably not the nicests OC mom, but i certainly love my children.

49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes? M A T T. this is canon (technically i haven’t finished the short yet but IT IS), he’s a little late to the meme party, still isn’t entirely sure how to use the internets effectively. generally he applies things to linus, gross romantic meme-fluff, and he doesn’t fully understand meme expiration so he recycles them forever.
