Ad blockers
Trying to see how many of us are already using adblockers on YouTube
Do you use an adblocker for YouTube?
yes
no
i'd like to, but I don't know what to use/how to do it
There's a YouTube Boycott going on because of data privacy concerns with the ID verification thing, and it's important to note that it's being expressed that if you can't stay away from YouTube, for whatever reason, to at least use an Adblocker so YouTube can't make money off your visit.
Been thinking about trying to make a post recommending some adblockers, and thought it'd be interesting to see how many of us use them vs not.
Feel free to leave in the tags what adblocker you use for those who may be looking for a good one! I'm using uBlock Origin on firefox, personally, and it works great.
Generally speaking, most won't turn to ad blockers unless ads become so inconvenient and frequent that it completely ruins whatever app/website in the first place. It's kinda like piracy in that regard. Most people won't turn to it, until they're so inconvenienced it's a better option to pirate than not
i love you ad blockers i live in this beautiful ad-free world and i'm so used to it that when i look at my mom's computer without ad blockers i feel like a medieval peasant arriving into Times Square
Any advice for setting up a PiHole to block ads? Got Ublock on phone/computer, but can't do that for the console that we run media / big screen YouTube through.
Oh man I wish, I know nothing about setting up Pihole.
The server and everything on it is my qpp's domain.
From conversing with her, it was not a difficult project. She installed the program and followed the documentation for it to a tee and it does indeed work pretty well. Won't catch absolutely everything but majorly cuts down on it.
I'm hoping to put together a resource at some point about the basics of making and running small servers at home - I'm in the process of putting my own together to learn. I'm hoping then I'll have more I can offer on the subject.
So, someone who's actually familiar with how internet ads generate revenue, is there *literally* any difference for creators if people watch videos with an adblocker turned on, or having an adblocker turned off and skipping all ads as soon as possible?
Like. I have never willingly clicked on an ad in my *life*, so I have no idea how people can get mad at people using adblockers if I'm literally not even clicking on an ad to give them money to begin with.
I ask this not because I'm interested in getting rid of my adblocker extension 'to support creatives" because nah, I am not getting bombarded with more advertizements every 30 seconds than I already am, but because I'm curious if it would be beneficial for me to have a different browser open on my favorite youtube channels as a playlist and just let it sttream videos I like on mute in the background after I've watched them normally with an adblocker 😂
Ad Nauseam and UBlock Origin are star crossed lovers. Desperately wanting to touch each other but forced by circumstance to never be able to. Yearning for a world in which they can overcome the limitations of bits and bytes and live out the rest of their days in harmony.
That's it, can't use youutbe any more. Ublock origin little patches shared around the internet not helping... if anyone has an actually up to date method, it'd be appreciated.
