ok but what if achilles looked slightly like phocus cuz their mothers were both nereids. Like imagine youre peleus and you were finally able to leave your past with your family behind but the moment you actually start your own it’s like they’ve come back to haunt you
then imagine having this kid handed to you who was exiled for killing someone close to him and seeing him in you. Imagine watching this foil of yourself grow closer to who looked like the reincarnation of the brother you killed all those years ago and hoping that the same story doesn’t play out again
Teucer really can't catch a break
the idea of pylades helping orestes kill neoptolemus is so interesting to me. phocus may have been dead and his bloodline forgotten but years later he gets his revenge on peleus through his great grandson who helped kill peleus’ grandson
here are some descendants of aeacus i find underrated because they aren’t just peleus, telamon, their sons, phocus, and neoptolemus (so yes this is a list of achilles, greater ajax, and teucer’s secret relatives):
- pylades (yes he’s descended from aeacus via his father strophius, a grandson of phocus. He’s pretty well known but most people overlook his descent from aeacus)
- medon, ajax the lesser’s illegitimate half brother who fought in the trojan war with him. Descended from aeacus via alcimache, his mother and aeacus’ daughter
- alcimache. WHY DONT I SEE ANYONE TALK ABOUT HER YES PELEUS TELAMON AND PHOCUS HAD A SECRET SISTER
- panopeus, member of the calydonian boar hunt and son of phocus and his wife asterodia. He also took part in this campaign against this other kingdom and swore by athena and ares to not lay his hands on any of the loot taken but broke his oath immediately. As a result, his son epeius was cursed to be unwarlike
- crisus, pylades’ grandfather and panopeus’ twin brother. For some reason theres this myth of them fighting in the womb as fetuses
- epeius, architect of the trojan horse. Descended from aeacus via his father panopeus, a son of phocus. I find this super interesting since there was this prophecy that troy would fall to the descendants of aeacus but nobody ever talks about how the guy who literally built the thing that allowed troy to fall was one of them
- aegle, sister of epeius and lover of theseus. Some sources state that theseus left ariadne for her
- eurysaces, son of ajax the greater by tecmessa, a slave he captured during the trojan war
aeacus needs to sentence telamon to a punishment in the underworld where phocus teucer priam and hesione get to repeatedly stab him on a daily basis
peleus receiving news of his grandson's death as hermione goes off with orestes when the guy behind orestes starts to look a bit too familiar
what even happened to aegina after aeacus died
telamon and peleus are exiled, phocus is dead, alcimache and menoetius (I think???) are both in locris, and actor and his kids are in phthia. i mean damocraetia could've still been there but she wouldn't have any children if we go by the version where she didn't marry menoetius and even if we do she would've be in opus with him
