I don’t have very much drawn and written yet but I promise someday I will drop full refs and lore for the whole series.
The indie show I want to make is called Aesopica, and the gist is it’s a fantasy adaptation of Aesop’s fables.
The three main characters are Tivera (the Cat), Conan (the Wolf), and Reynard (the Fox).
(I forgot to color in Conan’s cloak clasp in this picture so just ignore that)
Each of these three (who are usually the villains in Aesop’s fables) have been arrested for some kind of crime, which is revealed as the series goes on: Tivera, who’s been a pickpocket and thief her whole life, for petty crimes; Conan, who’s a former soldier and royal guard, was framed for the attempted murder of the General’s son; and Reynard, a former advisor to the king himself, was arrested for starting a coup and attempting to overthrow the king.
As these three criminal idiots escape prison together and travel across the country of Aesopica, reenacting Aesop’s fables and committing crimes, they are pursued by Kaleb, the Dog, a loyal member of the royal guard, and Ophelia the Crow, an enchantress-in-training eager to prove her worth.
As they all go through silly escapades, however, they discover a political conspiracy involving brewing civil war amongst the three political factions of the kingdom (Beasts, Birds, and Bugs, informally) and a possible revolution at the hands of Phineas, a Jackdaw lord and one of the leaders of the Flock (the bird faction).
(This bitch is the villain in case you can’t tell)
Anyway some other characters who I haven’t drawn in a while and I’m embarrassed to show old art of:
King Leopold the Lion: the king of Aesopica, very prideful and pompous but with growing stress about the state of his kingdom and the coming revolution.
Queen Moira the Mouse: the Queen of Aesopica by marriage, a shy and level-headed queen and Leopold’s loyal wife, however she’s starting to worry about her husband and his secrecy.
Madame Paloma the Crane: an ambassador of the Flock who lives at the palace and attends the royal Council. She favors monetary gain and tends to favor whatever decisions are good for her business, however she also likes to try to gain more political power for her party by flirting with both the king and queen.
Farley the Sheep: a studious and sheepish (or so his mother thinks) boy, the son of a general who’s just graduated college and has a bright future ahead of him. In reality though, he’s a reckless slacker who’s overly trusting. He had one of his eyes blinded in an assassination attempt, and his childhood friend (and possibly ex boyfriend) Conan was falsely blamed.
General Adaline the Shepherd: Farley’s mother, an extremely stern and fierce soldier. She dislikes Conan immensely and runs the royal guard with an iron fist. She’s getting older, and she once considered Conan her protégée, but that role now goes to Kaleb.
This series is going to have a comedic light-hearted tone that gets darker as it goes on, with a satirical twist on the morals that the classic Aesop’s Fables teach. I’m really excited about it and I love all the characters and their dynamics, and now that I know someone else is interested I might draw more content for it, lol.
