The souls of the tyrants, Emperor Constantine, General Cortez, and Pope Urban II, facing consequences in their afterlives. Devotional art to Hel. Happy indigenous peoples day.
Because of my theory on how Dead Boy Detectives will start exploring cultural afterlives in season two through our heroes and their families, I scanned some relevant pages from a helpful book in my library called "An Atlas of Afterlives" by Emily Hawkins and Manasawee Rojanaphan ( 9780711280861 ). It's a J NON-FIC haha so it's a great illustrative overview of several afterlives' lore.
I hit the photo limit so look for more in the reblogs.
I wanted to share several of the possibly-relevant pages, especially Sedna.
Does starclan still even like... Exist in the Walking Rot au? This question has been pestering me
THANK YOU FOR ASKING
I had already written this but then Tumblr froze on my phone boo
The three clans - Sunclan, Moonclan, and Cloudclan - had a different belief system than the canon clans. They believed that all cats - regardless of being clan cats or not - went to the same afterlife, albeit with steps.
They believed that the three gods - Scorching Sun, Chilling Moon, and Sheltering Cloud - would lead cats to the afterlife. Cloud would carry cats to the sky, and sort them. Good Cats - honorable cats with good morals, kits and apprentices, and those who gave their lives to save others - would go directly to the Stars, and their soul lights would become stars and guide the living; they might also choose to be reborn. Conflicted Cats - both those who did not think they deserved to be Stars and those whose actions were balanced between good and evil - would go to Moon, who would lead them through a penitent journey of self discovery or tend to them until they either became Stars or chose to live again. Bad Cats - the cruel, the murderous, the greedy, the worst cats - would go to Sun, where they would be hunted and tormented by their sins; literally feeling the anguish and torture of those they hurt. Bad Cats, if they truly repented of their crimes, would then be sent to Moon.
Starcats could leave Starsign - faint, glimmering glows - on things in the living world to indicate actions needed. Mossystar pointed Havenpelt to open the canopy and banish the Rotten Twoleg with sunlight. And unbeknownst to Travis, he was limned in stars when the survivors saw him - a sign that going with the Twoleg was the right choice.
When pets and loners began joining the Clowder, they added ther beliefs. Pets believed that a Rainbow would gather them up, and either take them to a Waiting Place (the Twoleg Afterlife or the Loner Afterlife), or clean them of all the bad that ever happened and put them in a new kit body. Loners believed that all cats went either up to a Place of Plenty (envisioned as being exactly what the cat loved in life but better) or Down. Down meant being dragged into the earth by sharp claws and fiery jaws of a cat's victims. No one could agree what Down looked like, but all agreed it was terrible.
When Dogs started joining (other than Eastwood), they added their beliefs too. Good Dogs went to the Twoleg Place - where their owners and family were - or to a canine Place of Plenty. Bad Dogs were gathered up by the Star Dog (a small white dog, with a brown face and a curly tail) and ran with them in the sky until they were sorry and ready to be reborn again. The dogs also affirmed that they could come back to guide the living - which Maxim the Head Nightguard affirmed as well. He was guided by a ghostly dog to her hidden twin pups, which he adopted as his own.
The belief systems meshed and changed - and are still changing - but it currently goes as such. Good animals will be gathered up by a Rainbow and go to their chosen afterlife - to the Stars or the Place of Plenty or the Twoleg Afterlife. Conflicted animals go to a place of penance, somewhere calm and quiet, where they could then take a journey of change. Bad animals were dragged through the whole world, and sent to a Burning Place, where if they were truly sorry, a Guide (the Star Dog or a cat from their past) would bring them on a journey of repentance. (The Clowder does not know they reinvented Dante's Inferno)
11:11
When at last in the afterlife, you reached level twelve That place in eternity where souls must depart To find new vessels; fresh beginnings and a bright new start You kissed my forehead and touched my heart Took my hand and said,
"It won't be long; I'm just a kiss away Remember this right now, today We never die I'll find you in moments, though in disguise You will see through the veil And when you are alone in a raging sea Especially then you will know it's me.
Wait for me softly, let patience be your guide Meanwhile, live your life and be happy, Stray far from those who crucify Only let in positive light because real love knows no fight Promise me this, and trust that it will be alright"
I've sought to heed your whispered, sound advice And I've found love not once, but twice Through these streets, where dreams and sorrows intertwine I search for solace, while hope heals this rueful heart of mine
What I want you to know, even amidst the chaos, And with every step, I yearn and strive I keep you alive But still, I find myself all alone In this ugly City of Life
and then...
In a dirty steel dome Way up high in a smog filled sky I sat and cried There is no safe place to call home
