continuing the rant...can dr. bright’s character please be about more than the men that surround her? please? this is smth i tend not 2 complain bc i hpnestly feel like it’s such an outdated thing u rarely see in media anymore but...her storylines in the am archives and the college tapes (haven’t finished it yet) have just been her relationships 2 men, and not much else. agent crawford (is that his name. he’s so bland that i genuinely don’t rmr) has a crush on her, so the story focuses [mainly] on that, and not the deep emotional turmoil she’s going thru trying 2 re-upholster the facility that put her brother AND HER - bc the show likes 2 forget that she was heavily abused by both wadsworth and agent green in the am - through incredible trauma and pain. crawford and her have absolutely no chemistry, and idek if dr. bright ever expresses interest in him in the show, but hey, at least crawford got owen’s blessing 2 date her b4 owen died!!
speaking of agent green-- the show keeps playing w/ owen’s continuing attraction 2 her after they’ve broken up, even though he very much treated/treats her like shit? to the extent that i think lauren might’ve just forgotten what he did? we keep getting scenes where owen talks abt not being over her, and it’s so heavily divorced from the horrible things he did 2 her that i get whiplash. do they ever TALK abt it??? the show forgives him SO fast, and there’s no time for him 2 atone or discuss it bc the bright sessions ends so quick, and then the am archives them fixing the am 2gether, and they never talk abt it properly.
and then in the college tapes (at least in the eps i’ve heard so far) she’s just playing support 4 caleb and adam’s research, and talking about agent green MORE. as if we hadn’t had enough of that before.
idk mb i’m just complaining abt her servile role in the show in general,,, i think smth that adds 2 this problem is that the show v. much tried 2 divorce dr. bright from her original context as every1′s therapist, 2 focus on her struggles as an actual person: but it never really stuck, bc the show didn’t entirely want that - it wanted the best of both worlds. so then we get the tiniest fractions of her inner world, emotions, and problems, but the other 90% of the time, she’s being some1′s therapist, whether they’re in the office or not - asking them how they feel, talking them thru situations bc that’s how the show informs u abt things: dialogue. but she never leaves that office, she never leaves that therapist’s chair 2 become a full person/character.
honestly, i feel like her relationship w/ agent green and mark w/ wadsworth included would be a great starting off point 2 explore her own traumas and just: personality outside of being the stoic therapist, but that ship sailed LONGGG ago. those asset meetings were so good and then we got nothing like them in the rest of the show and i am bitter
