A birthday present for the absolutely wonderful @agentkatie <33333
It’s that time of the year, folks -- Netflix Christmas movies have officially ruined my and @effelants’ brains, and we felt compelled to make our own this year! So buckle in for budding romances, mistaken identities, a distinct shortage of beds -- and, of course, and an egregious amount of holiday decorations...
Thanks to the wonderful @vjatoch for our magnificent art!

All Olivia Trevelyan wanted was a nice, quiet Satinalia, but chaos descends the moment the Inquisition sets foot in Denerim palace for their peace talks. Now she has to navigate a case of mistaken identities, the looming threat of assassination by the Crows, and, worst of all, a King whose smile makes her weak. With the future of the Inquisition at stake, can she figure out a way to save them, or will Shepard have to go ahead with the worst plan of all time?
A lighthearted Satinalia AU set just prior to Trespasser featuring an increasingly frantic Trevelyan, a marginally lovestruck King, and two absolutely hopeless Commanders.

Olivia Trevelyan had been to Denerim only once before. She and her family had spent one autumn there, as her parents had tried to orchestrate her eldest sister’s marriage to one of the Fereldan nobility; Olivia had been nine and had played with her doll of King Maric on a balcony which overlooked the palace. She’d imagined, back then, how the grand old building must have been equally beautiful inside, and she’d wished for nothing more than to explore it and learn its secrets. The following year her magic had manifested, and she’d resigned herself to never seeing a palace again.
Yet somehow, fifteen years later, here she was: not just an invited guest but an honoured guest. Even knowing the invitation was politically motivated, she remained as excited about it as she would have been as a child. She was delighted to find she’d been right about the palace’s inner beauty, but at this time of year it felt like she’d stepped into a dream. Lavishly decorated trees lined the halls and glittering stars hung from the ceiling, and holly and ivy entwined every free column and railing, radiant and breathtaking and more opulent than Olivia had ever imagined.
“I thought Ferelden was meant to be the less gaudy country on this continent.”
Shepard was apparently less impressed with the palace than Olivia, idly twiddling a bauble on the nearest tree. “I daresay it is for the Orlesian delegates,” Cullen grumbled, frowning at a particularly ornate garland.
“Oh, sure, blame the Orlesians. At least they own their tackiness.”
With a particularly exuberant flick the bauble Shepard had been toying with fell from the tree and shattered on the floor. Shepard grimaced before offering Josephine an apologetic smile.
“Remind me of why you wished to join us for this task, Shepard?” Josephine asked.
“Because I’m the only one willing to punch the King on the Inquisitor’s behalf.”

Tarot card commission for @agentkatie! Thank you so much for commissioning me!!
16, 17 and 18 for the writing meme asks! 😊
Thank you Katie <3 <3 <3
16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)
Honestly not really lmao, I pretty much write one POV, one tense, only DA stuff… I guess the “newest” thing is that I’ve been writing things that… aren’t Handers fluff lately? Instead of every second fic being more Handers fluff?
I really want to try and challenge myself to write something different though, even though I’m like ugh that means maybe writing something I am...less confident in writing.
17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?
Honestly the biggest surprise about my writing is possibly that I have not… ever romanced Anders lmao, despite the 40k Handers fic and all the ficlets. I got to act 2 and I haven’t ever had a chance to go back. Hopefully DA2 will follow DAO on the new computer though and I’ll actually get around to finish that. Bless everyone who puts the romances on youtube <3
As far as perceiving it? I feel like I get frustrated because I can see things in other people’s writing that I can’t do or struggle to do and would like to be able to do, but I guess people reading it only see the things that they like and not the frustrations that I have with those things (e.g. beautiful poetic descriptive language)
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.
🤔 I don’t think so? I haven’t written enough long stuff with long plotlines to have proper abandoned plotlines and I haven’t gotten into AUs yet! A week or so ago though my brain decided I needed to start rewriting the modern au fic from Anders’ perspective though so I guess that’s the closest thing I can think of!
5 and 6 for the fic writer asks!
Thank you! :D
5. Something you hate to see in smut.
when it comes to reading it I really don’t like dirty talk during sex? I guess it depends on my mood (and the couple) but overall it’s not something I find particularly sexy. I also don’t like it when there’s not clear consent, but that goes without saying. I’m sure I have more but these are the two that stick out to me right now.
6. Something you love to see in smut
I like it when couples talk to each other. Some of my favorite smutty scenes I’ve written have characters engaging in dialogue while going at it, hehe. Also, love some good old body worship and when the smut is depicted realistically.
I hate that in Holywood, it’s very rare that you see realistic sex outside of like the indie scene. And if you do see it is’s played for comedy. I may not have loved the show Normal People on hulu (namely because I found it more boring when Connell and marianne weren’t at it than anything) but the sex scenes felt real, awkwardness intact and all.

Beauty and the Beast fairytale, but retold with Bull and Dorian. There’s two ways I could go about this - subvert the obvious and make Dorian the Beast (he has enough self-loathing to pull it off) OR Bull’s the Beast, but at the end of the day, Dorian loves him just the way he is so nothing changes physically. Either way, could be a lot of fun! :D
2, 3 and 8 for the WIP writing questions?
Yay! Thank you so much for sending me these WIP Writing Asks! ❤️
I’ll answer these for “A Chance Engagement”, since that was the WIP I updated most recently.
2. How long have you been working on your WIP?
Since September 2017. It’s now 35 chapters long, and… nowhere near finished.
3. How has the WIP changed between starting it and where it is now?
So when I started writing it – and when I posted the first two chapters – the plot was meant to be VERY different to what it is now: I’d always planned for Merrill to have “a chance engagement” to dance with Sir Carver Hawke at her coming-out ball, BUT there was also meant to be an accidental actual engagement that happened during that same ball.
Merrill was meant to get lost somewhere and Carver accidentally walks into her, and then they get caught by other people in the same room purely by chance; and the only way to resolve the scandalous situation of an unmarried woman and man in the same room would be to feign an engagement – hence the other meaning of “a chance engagement” in the sense of they accidentally get engaged, and then somehow have to navigate how they can extricate themselves from this sticky situation but then they fall in looooove, oh no
….And then I wasn’t confident in my ability to pull off a fake engagement fic, so after publishing Chapter 3 I said “fuck it” and decided to follow the plot of Pride & Prejudice instead. LOL.
8. When creating the characters for your WIP, what came first to you?
I’ll be honest – I only wanted to write a Regency AU simply to have Carver striding around in ridiculously tight trousers that showed off the outline of his cock. That was literally the main reason I created this fic.
However, because I’m a huge Jane Austen fan and wanted to write a fic in her style, the fic is very much SFW and T-rated, despite Carver’s ridiculously tight Regency-style breeches.
As for creating characters… hmmm, that’s tricky, because nobody in the fic is an OC. The closest I’ve got to OCs are the elves in the Sabrae clan, because we know so little about their individual personalities and characters from canon, so much of it has had to be made up to fit into the plot.
