Kinda ranty, (Iam sorry Iam a tea account ik) but why is everything AI now? Pinterest is getting bought by OpenAI soon, I already get AI posts there, even tho I turned them off - it feels like my favourite platform is dying. The thing Iam studying is very likely getting replaced by AI, and I feel so dumb and rejected amongst my classmates because I don't want to use it in the design aspect. Social media apps are now riddled with chatbots that I don't want there. Mom sends me a video? AI slop. Youtube has some sections with AI summaries of short comments?? The video of a cute puppy or cat? AI. Now I have to question everything I see. It honestly has put me into a state of sadness I haven't felt in a while. Iam an adult now, and although I knew adulthood won't be easy, I did not expect it to be this level miserable. All the wars, genocides, climate change and this weird techfacism going on. How is one supposed to be hopeful for the future? How does one stay mentally healthy and sane really?

i’m so fucking done. i showed an anti-clanker meme to my dad and he said “oooh you can’t say clanker! It’s a slur against robots it’s racist!” like that’s actually not how racism works bro. i am not ashamed to have deep prejudice against something that isn’t sentient. i will call my printer a slur when it fucks up its only job and i will not apologize. it is a metal box.

I’m keeping it up because I was corrected by a couple of amazing people, and I want people to see the corrections. But like. Make sure you’re seeing the corrections. Every time I see someone liked this post I die a little inside not knowing if theyre liking my accidentally racist rhetoric or the version in which the people rightfully tear into me.

When you use AI to create, it counts as being creative. The muscle you are exercising is "creative direction." Don't let fools hassle you.

Someone in an AO3 writer thing I'm in: Oh, I only use AI to find words to use, it puts all the words in a document groupded by different parameters, so helpful, especially as I'm in a verbiage rut! I only use it about 25% of the time! The rest of the time I use a thesaurus and other conventional means! I don't use it to actually write for me!

Another person: I use AI to see if something is OOC for a character! It's honest and will say yes or no!

Another: I use it to answer my spicy and erotic questions!

Another: I use it to check spelling and grammar!

Another: I use it to bounce ideas off of!

Another: What I write vs what I think a character would do is different sometimes, so I talk with AI all the time and consider their thought process (the words the commenter used, not me, Halo) to make sure the characters aren't OOC!

In multiple comments/the general consensus of these comments: AI is a research tool! It's a tool for creativity! It's a documentation tool! We only use it to help, we don't actually use it to write for us! We're still doing the writing! We're using AI in a good way!

When we attack "AI," first off, there IS no true AI at this point--just machine-learning models. "AI" is just what the insufferable techbros developing these plagiarizing slop machines call it for marketing purposes.

Second, we're not decrying the machine learning that finds cancer cells or unblurs old irreplaceable photos or updates star maps, and shit like that, but that used to power mass surveillance, or that talentless hacks destroy the environment with to try to pretend they're artists and writers, or to create CSA imagery, and pornography of real people without their consent, or to avoid paying real actors, or to create propaganda with faked videos of people saying things they never said, and all the other things along those lines.

Not gonna argue about this; I block pro-"AI" hacks and fake "AI" artists and writers the same way I block MAGAts, and for the same reason. It's also why I throw out my garbage--if you're gonna add nothing of value, and just stink up the place, there's no reason to keep you around.
