I am making Malas, trying to use up my old beads. It struck me that the little elephant bead is 50 years old!

Akshobhya Buddha
This small, peaceful-looking bronze statue features the Akshobhya Buddha. He sits cross-legged with his right hand over his right knee, reaching toward the ground, in a position known as bhumisparsha mudra, or earth-touching gesture.
Usually associated with the historic Buddha, this gesture indicates his moment of victory over the demon Mara, who sought to disturb the Buddha's meditation, and, as a consequence, his enlightenment.
The same gesture is also associated with Akshobhya, one of the five great cosmic Buddhas central to early Tibetan Buddhism. The small object you can see on this Buddha’s pedestal is a vajra scepter, representative of tantric Buddhism, which confirms his identity as Akshobhya.

the deity Hevajra, seen dancing with his consort Nairatmya at the center of a fifteenth-century mandala
A monk versed in tantric Buddhist practice would use this mandala to visualize or self-identify.
Central to this practice is the concept of dualism, echoed here in the deity’s name, which fuses the male he (compassion) with the female vajra (wisdom, or shunyata).
- THE FIVE BUDDHA FAMILIES - . (pt.2 of 6) . Buddha Akshobhya . The disturbing emotion of anger is transformed into the Buddha Akshobhya's wisdom at enlightenment. We may ask how the absence of aggression or anger relates to Buddha Akshobhya? Akshobhya is a sanskrit name, in Tibet he is called 'Sangye Mikyodpa' or the immovable, stable and changeless Buddha. . Sangye means 'Buddha' He is 'immovable and changeless' because when the disturbing emotion of anger is present, everything inevitably changes; our face becomes red, the body begins to shake and the friend we are angry with becomes our enemy. When anger is purified, everything is peaceful and stable, which is the realisation of the changeless, stable and permanent Buddha Akshobhya. . The Buddha Akshobhya's blue colour symbolises permanence that is changeless, just, as the sky has always been blue whether this year or a thousand years ago. Akshobhya has a vajra and this too is a symbol of his indestructible and changeless nature. He sits in vajra posture to symbolise the indestructible nature and his right hand touches the earth which is also a gesture of the changeless. . In the mandala Akshobhya resides in the east and is depicted seated on an elephant throne. . #Buddha #Buddhism #Buddhist #Dharma #meditation #meditator #wisdom #Knowledge #awakening #Consciousness #truth #spiritual #mindfulness #akshobhya #art #blue #goodvibrations #goodevening #tuesday #om #namaste #yogalife #positvevibes #lifeforce #alchemy #vajrayana #enlightenment #anger #blogger #thangka https://www.instagram.com/p/Bty6YABnQf3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1h3isqjs1tadx
