The Murder of Alexis Murphy
Alexis Tiara Murphy was a 17-year-old girl from Virginia, her family described her as bubbly and happy and she was a keen volleyball player with a lot of friends.
On 3rd August 2013, Alexis left her home in Shipman to travel to the city of Lynchburg, she was last seen at a gas station driving her white car. Alexis was never seen again. Alexis' family became worried when she failed to contact them and reported her as missing. On 6th August Alexis' car was found abandoned in a parking lot.
Police began to identify people who had been seen in close proximity to Alexis including at the gas station she stopped at. Randy Taylor was arrested based on CCTV placing him near Alexis before she went missing. Cameras captured him speaking with Alexis and then her following his vehicle in her car. A strand of Alexis' hair was found in Taylor's camper van, a torn fingernail, fake eyelashes, a blood-stained T-shirt and a diamond earring stud were also found. Taylor initially claimed to have met Alexis but not killed her and later admitted to her murder. He attempted to bargain for a lesser sentence by claiming a third person had been involved and said he would reveal the location of Alexis' body for a 20-year-sentence. This was declined and he was sentenced to life in prison. Taylor was also linked to another missing teenager Virginia- Samantha Clark.
Seven years after her disappearance in December 2020, Alexis' remains were found on private property.
Annie Murphy was a struggling actress for years and had her house burned down and now here she is tonight as an Emmy winning actress.
Where I Find Safety
“I’m here, you’re home, you’re safe.” Her mother murmurs, taking one of her hands and squeezing.
Lex shakes her head, back and forth, hard enough that it starts to make her dizzy. She hasn’t felt safe since she left the hospital, since Alan ruffled her hair and waved them off. Suddenly she’s struck by the desire, the desperate need, to see him, to hear his voice, so strong that she feels it wrap around her throat and squeeze.
“Dr Grant.” She sobs, fingers twisting into her bedsheets, a tight and terrified grip. “I want Dr Grant.”

19 year old Samantha Clarke has been missing since September 14th, 2010. The previous evening, Samantha told her younger brother that she was going out with a few friends and would be back later. However, when their mother Barbara Tinder returned to their Orange County, Virginia home after her night shift at work, Samantha still had not returned home. Barbara was immediately worried about her daughter, but was told that she could not file a missing persons report until 48 hours after her disappearance. Barbara remained hopeful that Samantha would show up sometime during that 48 hour period, but unfortunately, Samantha never returned home and was finally reported missing two days later.
Randy Allen Taylor is considered a suspect in Samantha’s disappearance. Taylor is currently serving a life sentence for kidnapping and murdering 17 year old Alexis Murphy on August 3rd, 2013. A detailed write-up on Alexis’ case can be found here.
Three years earlier, in September 2010, Samantha and Taylor met at a restaurant off of route 29 called Northside. Samantha was at the restaurant with her mother after the two had attended a high school football game together. While there, Samantha struck up a conversation with two younger men in their 20s. Taylor happened to be a friend of the young men, and joined them at the restaurant. Samantha later ended up going home with one of the younger men, however she took down Taylor’s phone number as well.
In the hours before Samantha’s disappearance on September 14th, Taylor called Samantha five different times. He was identified as a suspect early on into the investigation, but he vehemently denied any involvement in her disappearance and investigators were unable to find any other evidence against him. News about Samantha’s disappearance seemed to die down a bit until Taylor became the prime suspect in the disappearance of another young girl: Alexis Murphy. Police were able to find DNA evidence that Taylor had kidnapped, murdered, and disposed of Alexis. He was ultimately convicted in Alexis’ case; which only reinforced the earlier beliefs that he was involved in Samantha’s 2010 disappearance as well.
Taylor still denies involvement in Samantha’s case. He also claims he was wrongfully convicted in Alexis’ case as well. Neither women have ever been found. Police are still investigating Samantha’s case. If you have any information, please report it here.
