JURASSIC PARK | 1993 ↳ Directed by Steven Spielberg
ian malcolm is so hot, whoever is planning on making fics for him, DO IT!! (owen grady too!)
headcanons of the OG Jurassic Park trio with Lex and Tim after Jurassic Park
Alan, Ellie and Ian tried to go their separate ways after getting back to the mainland, but the night after, Lex and Tim's parents called them in a frantic hurry because both their kids were crying and hyperventilating and asking for dr Grant and dr Sattler. Alan and Ellie went around, and stayed at Lex and Tim's house for a week while the kids got back to it
to this day, they know they can always call them if they need to, especially if they're having nightmares. they get it. they have nightmares too (“but you're Dr Grant. How do you have nightmares?”)
Lex and Tim initially made more of an effort to regularly stay in touch with Alan, Ellie and Ian. Ellie returned their calls out of politeness and kindnesses and Ian loved the kids, but Alan wanted nothing to do with anything that reminded him of the park. one stern phone call with Ellie later and he's joining the monthly calls
Ian saw Lex and Tim for monthly visits since the island. he’s collecting children. he’ll take on two more
he takes the kids out for a day and spoils them rotten. seeing dr Malcolm is one of Lex and Tim’s favourite things
Lex likes Ellie better, Tim likes Alan better, and they like Ian equally
Alan, Ellie and Ian earn aunt/uncle titles within six months after the island
Lex and Tim invite Alan round every Christmas and Thanksgiving. especially after they found out he and Ellie broke up and he was living by himself. they were so worried their uncle would be lonely, they tried to convince their parents to let him move in, but Alan was on the move all the time with palaeontology and dig sites, so he couldn’t stay anywhere for long. but he knows he’ll always have a home there if he needs it. Lex and Tim promised
Tim always calls Alan for homework help. Lex is always smart enough to figure it out herself
Alan secretly loves when Tim nerds out about dinosaurs with him, and he's happy to answer all of Tim's questions
Lex and Kelly (Ian’s daughter) are online friends
Lex went to a very prestigious computing university, and Alan, Ellie, and Ian all went to her graduation. they were so proud of her. Ian cheered so loud
Tim grew up to get a job in palaentology, and he spoke about the events of Jurassic World a bit, and a few podcasts, radio shows, and talk shows interviewed him, as well as a couple of interviews with the news
Lex was more significantly traumatised by the dinosaurs (she appeared more afraid of them than Tim) so she’s very happy working in computing and distancing herself from dinosaurs
I was rewatching Jurassic Park (the og) and realized that Lex is great ptsd representation and I don’t it’s entirely on purpose. Like after the lawyer abandons her and Tim in the car, and then later when Grant says he’s going to leave, she says “He left us” or something along the lines of that, and the acting there was just amazing because ptsd isn’t all coming home from war and being scared of microwave popcorn, it can be like with Lex, where you’re stuck on a last event, and even in a scenario where it doesn’t exactly apply or make sense, mentally you’re still there, and your brain is recognizing the pattern of what happened then being similar to a current situation and freaking the hell out.
Or the scene where they’re all in the tree, and as soon as Lex sees the herbivores, she screams and starts backing away. Even after Tim explains that they’re herbivores (or veggysaurus’, in his words), she is still terrified. And that’s so real. With my ptsd episodes, it doesn’t have to make perfect sense. Logically, I know that a cup breaking or someone raising their voice doesn’t mean my abuser is there too, I know that, but my body still reacts, and that’s exactly what Lex shows.
What stands out to me is how Grant handles it. In the first incident, he doesn’t call her dumb, just leave, or anything, he provides the reassurance that HE won’t leave her, acknowledging that past scenario happened, and showing her how it’s different. In the second, Grant understands as well, but he knows she isn’t in any active harm, and I think he was trying to do a monkey-eats-the-berries scenario by feeding the herbivore leaves, showing it won’t harm them, and not forcing her to feed it with him, but letting her maintain that distance and form her own opinion with a new, positively reinforced scenario.
moral of the story: Lex is awesome and dinosaurs are cool and be like Grant
