On This Day in Baseball History February 28, 2015: The only batting champion in the history of the California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels, Alex Johnson (December 7, 1942 - February 28, 2015) passed away at the age of 72. Johnson played 12 seasons with nine teams. His standout moment was winning the 1970 American League batting title by hitting .329 with 14 homers and 86 RBI. Johnson won the title on the last day of the season going 2-3 and defeating Carl Yaztremski of the Boston Red Sox by .0003 percentage points. It's amazing to think that with all of the tremendous batters the Angels have had through their existence, including Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero and future Hall of Famer Mike Trout to name a few, that Alex Johnson is the only Batting Champion in Angels History. #AlexJohnson #CaliforniaAngels #1970ALBattingChampion #AnaheimAngels #LosAngelesAngelsofAnaheim #BaseballHistory #HistoriaDelBeisbol #Baseball #Beisbol #BaseballSisco
