That’s not being completely true… the weird Elixir/Wolfsbane was an “OH GOD!” too…

I have another question about the New Mutants/New X-Men squads: who came up with the designs for the squad outfits? Did you pitch the color schemes for each team, or was that something Marvel or the artists decided on? And if you have any sketches or early concepts, would you be able to share them?
As we recall, Randy Green did the initial costume designs. Not sure, however, how much guidance editorial gave him.
We did not pitch color schemes, but got to give feedback on everything as it came in.
And different artists were working on the books as the other (non NM and non Hellion) squads first appeared, so the artists for those issues tended to design those squads.
Here are some of the earliest designs we saw... we think some (if not all) of this was released on the web back in the day.
Not sure if that is anything new, but hope it's fun to see.

Just to make the previous question more interesting, can you also add which design is your favorite from each squad?
Well, that is tricky. On the New Mutants it would be either Sofia (love that sash) or Laurie (love that jacket).
On the Hellions, for me (Nunzio) it would be Cessily, but that is because I love how she looks using her powers, and the costume works well for that. Christina favors Julian and his classic design.
Corsairs... not sure. Maybe Callie, but that's mostly because we wanted to do more with her and never got the chance.
Alpha Squadron... for Nunzio, it was Alani, because he loves the way the patterns of her tattoos mix with the patterns of her costume. For Christina it's Sarah, because the design really speaks to the personality we had in mind for her.
Paragons... Meghan. Just love that helmet. We never were as fond of later representations of her that got too sexualized for our tastes. To us, she was very young. And to one of our artists, her design was based on his little sister, so that was... awkward.
Seafair / Airshow weekend means it’s time to post Starfighter pilot photos. This is Flask, my Resistance X-wing pilot. She’s CO of Alpha Squadron, and this was taken during a shore leave on Batuu. There was a bit of a run-in with the First Order, but it was time for the Rise of the Resistance and we got away clean. We also connected with secret agent Vi Moradi.

Shoutout to the coolest fighter pilot unit (after Macross) in anime lead by the most awesome ace Lt. Elvy “Bunga Mawar” Hadhiyat. Love how RahXephon featured a female POC as the leader of a racially diverse military unit way back in 2001.
Anole, stalking the night.

I got some Xavier Institute Student sketches at Xavier High School Comic Con today. I mean my God, XAVIER High? The setting was perfect.
“Noxious” an unnamed background student by Dave Fox.
Elf, who was there when Quentin Quire humiliated cool guy Slick in his debut appearance. Done by Zanny Lane.
Rubbermaid of the Alpha Squadron training squad by Mindy Indy.
@newx-menfan
asking for a Polish friend, was Anole intended to be Polish-American? Always figured he was based on his last name
That was our original intent.
But we never put it into the story, so if any later writer said or eventually says otherwise, you'd need to go with what they said.
