You know something interesting about TLG that contributes to the impression that Ilya doesn’t care about hockey 😒 is how fade-to-black the hockey is for Ilya specifically post hr. In his pov we basically just get final scores between bouts of related depression such that we never get to see how much fun he’s having on the ice just antagonising everyone even when he isn’t winning. All of those moments are isolated to the previous books and other characters povs. This is likely an unfortunate consequence of his arc being so steadily low till the jagged upswing toward the end, but the contrast to those earlier scenes is somewhat fascinating.

I think it’s so so fun that Ruin’s Monty coming back and dying kinda just fucking. Destroyed the walls Ruin put around himself and his trauma. They’ve never been so genuinely vulnerable before except in some moments where past memories were literally ripped out for them to relive and even then it wasn’t for long. But now that the past Actually came back and his hope died in front of him he’s been a mess who can’t hide that he’s frazzled— actually stuttering and being anxious and sad about the new relationships he thinks he’s permanently ruined. He can’t hide how he feels anymore, so they chose their second tried and true option, running, but now they can’t run away anymore either. Time to confront your feelings, the consequences of your actions, and the fact that you won’t be completely rejected which you’re probably hoping is the case huh.
