Altar to Hera

Excuse my terrible picture taking abilities, as I am terrible at taking pictures.

I finally have my full altar to Hera set up. Everything on it was chosen for a specific reason. My wedding bouquet, wedding shoes, and Wifey Est 2018 water bottle from the wedding have all been dedicated to Her. There are pomegranates and peacocks, which are common symbols of Hera. She stands before a painting I made for Her. The Barbie in the background was given to my grandmother by my grandfather because they eloped and she didn't have a wedding dress.

Fun fact: peacock refers only to the male peafowl, a type of pheasant from India. It is widely believed that peacocks were first revered in India, as a symbol of the goddess Lakshmi. Peacocks were kept as pets by Indian royalty all across the subcontinent because of their beauty, as well as because they eat snakes.

Witch Tip:

Currently, I'm working on an altarcraft project where I'm transforming craft supplies from the dollar store into creative and personal representations of my deities.

These supplies were under $30 in total, in fact the figures were $0.16 because of the summer sale at DG.

I think I'm done with the Aphrodite figure.

The Eros figure needs painted and transformed. (It's a before photo)

My shell is good to go. (I made it from air-dry clay and glitter and pearls from DG.

And my shadow boxes just need the collages in the middle to be colored and added to.

I’ll fully admit this beginining winter hasn’t been perfectly ideal. It certainly was better than I thought it would be! Though it was a little too warm and I did a little too much travelling for my liking. Which is how this altar came about.

I was back from my retreat on the winter solstice. After doing a small handfasting with my love, spending a week with amazing witchy people and seeing so many ecclectic pagan kind of things I was thrilled to at least be back in my apartment for 20 hours during the solstice.

My altar was not clean and was not ready. So this tray served as a temp. Altar. As well as it served to consecrate the amazig statues that my partner got me.

I was immensely inspired and switched on by this altar and I’m saddened that I didnt take any really good pictures! But below is a picture of it all lit up!

The aflatus came upon me at last, and I carved a Tzeentch icon for my altar. I'm carving a set of icons of my pantheon from various local woods (mostly hawthorn and blackthorn as they're most appropriate) and appropriate materials from my huge "found favours" hoard. Tzeentch here is carved from the same blackthorn branch that Sutekh and Eris came from.

Process and so on over on patreon as you'd expect. I think Dionysus will be next!
