Here’s my gift for @canadiantardis for the Plance Conservatory Valentine’s Exchange! I just had to draw altean!Pidge from her Plance AU, Connections, because I love it so much. And I can’t believe I tortured myself drawing paladin armor but I really wanted to see what long-haired altean Katie would look like in it T-T

When you don’t know what ships may go down in an AU, so you draw two different very probable ones just because you can and want to practice drawing kissing. Looking at them now, either Pidge is altering her height to match them or they’re holding her up because she’s so damn small.
Role Swap!AU where the Holts are Altean and advisors to the royal family. When the boys find Allura, it’s Pidge that comes out with her. Most of the Earth events are the same, but Pidge & Allura are distressed because they know what happened to their parents but not Coran & Matt. It’s like they just disappeared. Record showed they were put in sleep pods too but they aren’t there.
Sam Holt was the Yellow Lion’s pilot and was killed with the other Paladins. Allura is a dedicated leader and believes she can best serve the team by piloting the castle ship. Pidge is reluctant, because of her dad’s death, but she pilots the green lion. She still goes with Shiro to get it, and the team still thinks she’s a boy. But Alteans don’t care much about gender roles, so she never really thinks to correct them.
Meanwhile, Haggar is a lot more fierce in this universe. The Galra are more ferocious and have a violent mastermind as their tactician. The team dubs him “The Chessmaster.” Overall, there’s a lot more “running and trying to establish base but constantly being hunted down” then in the main universe, because of how cunning the Chessmaster is. There’s also a mysterious figure usually in the shadows whenever Haggar is around. Shiro has memories of him but his PTSD makes it hard to recall anything useful.
Because of this, it takes longer for Shiro to get his bayard and the team to incapacitate Zarkon. It still happens, but because Pidge is an Altean pilot, she figures out the Shiro clone situation much, much sooner and Allura is able to remedy things. Also, Haggar is asked by the Galra generals if Prince Lotor should be summoned. Haggar scoffs and says that Honerva’s son is useless, but her son will be able to lead them to victory. The shadow figure steps forward and kneels, stating that he’s ready to do as his mother requires.
This universe is darker and team Voltron struggles a lot with gaining their footing. The Chessmaster spreads anti-Voltron propaganda that actually works, and the team has a hard time getting alien societies to trust them. It’s made worse by the fact that anti-Altean messages have been reinforced since Altea was destroyed, so the team tries to hide the fact that one of their pilots is Altean and not human. It’s difficult enough getting people to listen to Allura, their non-pilot Altean leader.
Lotor actually joins up with Voltron in this universe. Because of “Haggar’s Son,” he was pretty much completely cast aside by Zarkon at a young age. He had a nanny but was never given any real power and mostly grew up isolated and alone. When he became an adult, he tried to further his mother’s research in power sources, and he got trapped in the belly of a Weblum for thousands of years until Keith saved him. So basically, he has emotional baggage but he’s not crazy like his main universe counterpart.
Things go a bit better with Lotor on their side, but the sucker punch really comes when Allura and Pidge find out who the new prince and the Chessmaster are. Back when Altea was destroyed, Matt and Coran were put in the sleep pods. But they set the timers to last only a few minutes. They then snuck out, against Alfor’s orders, in a last ditch attempt to sabotage the Galra fleet and save everyone. But Haggar caught them.
Seeing Matt, a talented young man with so much potential who felt very familiar to her warped mind, she decided to take him as her son. This, of course, meant he needed many....modifications. Revisions to both his mental state and his body. It was similar with Coran, whom she had once loved like a brother. He became her Chessmaster. Their fates were worse than death, and discovering the truth crushes Allura and Pidge.

Roleswap AU: Altean!Holt Family, human!Allura... I found this buried in my drafts from before Romelle was even on the show.

10,000 years ago, King Samuel and Queen Colleen sent their children from Altea so they would survive, just in case Zarkon managed to destroy the planet. Matt was sent with Coran to Arus, along with a puppy called Bae Bae.
Katie was supposed to reach one of the Altean colonies, but for some reason, she didn’t. It was for the best, as they were destroyed at around the same time as Altea. Instead, she crash-landed and woke up many years before Voltron would return.
A year before Voltron’s return, Shiro is on Kerberos, along with Commander Alfor Brooks and his niece Romelle. Alfor’s daughter is currently studying at the Garrison in Astrochemistry. When she learns of the crash, Allura begins to look into it and barely manages to not get kicked out of the Garrison.
She has four pet mice at home, and wants to find her dad and cousin and defeat Zarkon before they die. They’re currently in Bandor’s care.
On the night of them finding Shiro, Lance follows Allura because he thinks she’s cute. Hunk really wishes that Lance would not do this because they always get in trouble and hey look, now they’re committing treason
Keith recognizes Allura because she helped him find out about Shiro. He still doesn’t remember Lance, though.
When the group meets Matt, both Allura and Shiro mentally call dibs.
Allura pilots Blue, Hunk Green, Keith Yellow, and Lance Red.
Rolo and Nyma initially prepare to lure in Voltron and steal one of the lions when they see Matt. Suddenly, they realize that they have to do the right thing, if only for the fourth (and simultaneously both oldest and youngest) member of their crew.
“Hey, Pidge?” Rolo calls. “You should really come see this.”
“Can’t I just make sure we have stuff for the co- I mean, the thing we’re doing?”
“This guy looks a hell of a lot like you!”
Matt’s baby sister is supposed to be a child, the Altean equivalent of an eleven-year-old. She’s not supposed to be an angry looking adolescent smuggler who grew up without him. Then again, she’s also supposed to be dead, and she isn’t.

“So, let me get this straight: you saw…Nothing?”
Keith’s eyes flitted between the princess and his captain, the very picture of a transparent liar.
“No, ma’am, I saw absolutely nothing.”
Princess Allura’s eyes narrowed.
“So, you didn’t see Pidge stay after her work day was done?”
“No, ma’am.”
“And she didn’t tell you to meet her after dark in the courtyard by the wall that was closest to the castle at the beginning of your shift?”
“No, ma’am.”
“And you didn’t help her climb over the wall to the inner compound?”
“No, ma’am.”
“And you didn’t tell the guard to allow you to take his shift when he came to relieve you?”
“I did, but I thought I was doing him a favor.”
“And you didn’t come when the alarm was raised that there was an alleged intruder in the castle because…?”
“I…fell asleep.”
“And you didn’t know she was seeing Prince Lance without anyone’s knowledge?”
“No, ma’am.”
Allura’s steely gaze shifted from Keith to Shiro then back to Keith.
“Captain,” Allura said.
“Yes, Princess,” said Shiro.
“I think you need to have a word with your fellow guard, while I need a word with my brother and our gardener.”
“Should I ask Hunk to make you something with sprinkles?”
“Tell him to be generous with them; It’s going to be a long night.

Small summary of the AU under cut
Keith is still half Galra, however his father died when the Galra first came to Earth in search of the Blue lion. His Galra genes are the dominant ones, making him more evidently Galra than human. He was brought in in the Blade of Marmora with his mother.
Pidge is one of the Alteans from Lotor’s colony. She escapes said colony, however, her pod wrecks and due to the crash she’s lost most of her memory. The only things she remembers are that she goes by “Pidge” and she was looking for someone, but can’t remember who. Her pod crashes on a Galra occupied planet and she is taken in to Haggar and the druids for questioning. “Where did you come from?” “Are there more like you?”
Keith is on a mission for the blade and while sneaking around the prisoner cells he finds Pidge and rescues her. He takes her back with him and they become basically inseparable.
I do have most of this AU fleshed out and am considering writing a fic for it.
